Download or read book Praises Offenses written by Aída Cartagena Portalatin and published by BOA Editions, Ltd.. This book was released on 2015-06-20 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As tropical as it is topical, this landmark anthology gives voice to three powerful women poets from the Dominican Republic. Together they present a wide array of linguistic and stylistic elements, and they address shared political and cultural issues that illuminate what it means to be a woman in the modern-day Dominican Republic. Translator Judith Kerman, who began the anthology as a Senior Fulbright Scholar, notes that “contemporary women poets from the Dominican Republic are the most underserved group when it comes to English-language translations.” This anthology remedies that omission with poetry that is smart, edgy, and groundbreaking.
Download or read book Contemporary Costa Rican Poetry written by Carlos F. Monge and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first Spanish/English bilingual anthology of contemporary Costa Rican poetry ever published. It contains a careful selection of poetry published since 1990, and includes Costa Rica's finest poets and most representative current trends. Although not well known outside Costa Rica, this is outstanding poetry due not only to its thematic and stylistic variety, but also to its integration of the main tendencies of contemporary Spanish-language poetry. Victor S. Drescher's painstaking work translating the cultural, linguistic and stylistic features of the originals has made it possible for the English reader to recreate the essential aspects of the world-view that these poems reflect and represent. This anthology makes a substantial contribution to the world of letters by enabling English readers to become familiar with a representative sample of Costa Rican poetry in particular, and with Latin American poetry in general.

This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to a soul after death? What is a register? What is it like in heaven? What is the best way to pray? Can the Bible and the Rue be viewed as accurate historical religious records or something else? These are some of the spiritual questions which are explored in Into the White Light. The author was awakened by a big, bright white light. As a professional psychic and medium she identified the energy as coming from a divine source. In subsequent visions the presence identified himself as Archangel Michael. As overseer of the Virtues and guide to light workers, he telepathically channeled a profoundly amazing body of spiritual myths, truths, and prophecies to the author. It begins with the time of the Creation and ends with prophecies for the 21st century, including the discovery of a new planet the angel calls Nebulon. It reads like a sacred book in the depth of knowledge the angel shared because he told the author these truths as parables. It is a profoundly enlightening book for all faiths and for anyone on a spiritual path!

Book excerpt: Music, Popular Culture, Identities is a collection of sixteen essays that will appeal to a wide range of readers with interests in popular culture and music, cultural studies, and ethnomusicology. Organized around the central theme of music as an expression of local, ethnic, social and other identities, the essays touch upon popular traditions and contemporary forms from several different regions of the world: political engagement in Italian popular music; flamenco in Spain; the challenge of traditional music in Bulgaria; boerenrock and rap in Holland; Israeli extreme heavy metal; jazz and pop in South Africa, and musical hybridity and politics in Côte d’Ivoire. The collection includes essays about Latin America: on the Mexican corrido, the Caribbean, popular dance music in Cuba, and bossanova from Brazil. Communities of a cultural diaspora in North America are discussed in essays on Somali immigrant and refugee youth and Iranians in exile in the US. Grounded in cultural theory and a specialized knowledge of a particular popular musical practice, each author has written a critical study on the mix of music and identity in a particular social practice and context.

Download or read book Within My Mind Poemas De Mi written by Oscar Frias and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book you will find a distribution of poetry in Spanish and English. This is because I preserve and respect my two cultures with which I grew up. I grew up in Las Californias, to be exact on the border between San Diego and Tijuana. So I grew up with both American and Mexican cultures. In this way the poems in English have no translation into Spanish with those of Spanish. I decided to do it this way to preserve the language in which I wrote the poems. You will find poems of a man who is amazed by what surrounds him, nature, the passing of everyday life. Tormented by the time that vanishes from his hands, but has managed to discover himself in his poems. You will find poems dedicated to a muse that accompanied me for a long trip of my life, thank you Morena. I also thank the people who went through my life and from those ephemeral moments I managed to write these paragraphs.
