Book Introduction to the Graphical Theory of Angular Momentum

Download or read book Introduction to the Graphical Theory of Angular Momentum written by Ewald Balcar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-09-18 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Application of quantum mechanics in physics and chemistry often entails manipulation and evaluation of sums and products of coupling coefficients for the theory of angular momentum. Challenges encountered in such work can be tamed by graphical techniques that provide both the insight and analytical power. The book is the first step-by-step exposition of a graphical method grounded in established work. Copious exercises recover standard results but demonstrate the power to go beyond.

Book Angular Momentum Calculus in Quantum Physics

Download or read book Angular Momentum Calculus in Quantum Physics written by Michael Danos and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the practical aspects of solving angular momentum problems. The novel but fully tested-out method (the Invariant Graph Method) allows one to write down from a single graph the complete final result of the problem. The drawing of the graph involves very few simple, essentially self-evident rules. Still it is a powerful tool to easily solve the most involved physical problems. The method is introduced step-by-step in a sequence of examples, beginning with the simplest matrix elements, and ending with the most general case of a reaction including angular distributions and correlations. The many-body and particle anti-particle systems are fully developed. All aspects: wave functions, vectors, operators, Fock space state vectors and operators, etc., are treated on the same footing. All concepts of angular momentum theory acquire a transparent meaning. Hence the book is valuable not only as a handbook in problem solving, but extremely so as an adjunct in any course on advanced qunatum physics, atomic, molecular, nuclear and particle physics.

Book Angular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics

Download or read book Angular Momentum in Quantum Mechanics written by A. R. Edmonds and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-10 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a concise introduction to the angular momentum, one of the most fundamental quantities in all of quantum mechanics. Beginning with the quantization of angular momentum, spin angular momentum, and the orbital angular momentum, the author goes on to discuss the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for a two-component system. After developing the necessary mathematics, specifically spherical tensors and tensor operators, the author then investigates the 3-j, 6-j, and 9-j symbols. Throughout, the author provides practical applications to atomic, molecular, and nuclear physics. These include partial-wave expansions, the emission and absorption of particles, the proton and electron quadrupole moment, matrix element calculation in practice, and the properties of the symmetrical top molecule.

Book Angular Momentum Theory Applied to Interactions in Solids

Download or read book Angular Momentum Theory Applied to Interactions in Solids written by Clyde A. Morrison and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From December 1985 through March 1986 the text of this book formed the basis of an in-hours course taught by the author at Harry Diamond Laborato ries. Considerable assistance in revising and organizing the first draft was given by John Bruno. The original draft of these notes was based on a collection of lectures delivered at the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil, between 2 November 1981 and 2 December 1981. The visit to Recife was a response to an invi tation of Professor Gilberto F. de Sa of the Physics Department. In the preparation of these notes I made many requests of my coworkers for earlier resul ts and recollections of our early work. Among those consul ted were Donald Wortman, Nick Karayianis, and Richard Leavitt. Further, a number of .suggestions from my Brazilian colleagues helped make the lectures more clear. Particular among these were Professor Oscar Malta and Professor Alfredo A. da Gama both of whom I wish to thank for their help. Encouragement and assistance with funding for much of this work came from Leon Esterowitz of the Naval Research Laboratory and Rudolph Buser and Albert Pinto of the center for Night Vision and Electro-Optics.

Book Angular Momentum Theory for Diatomic Molecules

Download or read book Angular Momentum Theory for Diatomic Molecules written by Brain Judd and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Angular Momentum Theory for Diatomic Molecules focuses on the application of angular momentum theory in describing the complex dynamical processes in molecules. The manuscript first offers information on tensor algebra and rotation group. Discussions focus on commutation relations, spherical and double tensors, rotations, coupling, reduced matrix elements, quaternions, combination theorem for Gegenbauer polynomials, and combination theorems for spherical harmonics. The book then takes a look at R(4) in physical systems and hydrogen molecular ion, including rigid rotator, reversed angular momentum, reduced matrix elements, spheroidal coordinates, and hydrogen atom in spheroidal coordinates. The publication examines expansions and free diatomic molecules. Topics include angular momentum, molecular frame, primitive energy spectrum, rotating oscillator and hydrogen atom, expressions for electric potentials, delta functions, and Neumann expansion. The manuscript also considers external fields and perturbations. The text is a dependable reference for readers interested in the application of angular momentum theory in identifying the dynamical processes going on in molecules.
