Book Simulation of Local Area Networks

Download or read book Simulation of Local Area Networks written by Matthew N. O. Sadiku and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fast-growing area in the communications industry is the internetworking of an ever-increasing proliferation of computers, particularly via local area networks (LANs). The LAN is a resource-sharing data communications network being used by many offices to interchange information such as electronic mail, word processing, and files among computers and other devices. This unique book shows the user how to establish the performance characteristics of a LAN before putting it to use in a particular type of situation. Simulation of Local Area Networks consists of eight chapters, each with its own extensive list of references. The first chapter provides a brief review of local area networks, and the second chapter gives the analytical models of popular LANs-token-passing bus and ring networks, CSMA/CD LANs, and star networks. Chapter 3 covers general principles of simulation, and Chapter 4 discusses fundamental concepts in probability and statistics relating to simulation modeling. Materials in Chapters 3 and 4 are specifically applied in developing simulation models on token-passing LANs, CSMA/CD LANs, and star LANs in Chapters 5 through 7. The computer code in Chapters 5, 6, and 7 is divided into segments, and a detailed explanation of each segment is provided. The last chapter reviews special-purpose languages such as GPSS, SIMSCRIPT, GASP, SIMULA, SLAM, and RESQ. Helpful criteria for language selection are included. The entire code is put together in the appendixes. This book has two major advantages over existing texts. First, it uses C, a well-developed general-purpose language that is familiar to most analysts. Second, the text specifically applies the simulation principles to local area networks. No other book available shows the systems analyst how to evaluate the performance of existing or proposed systems under different kinds of conditions.

Book Introduction to Local Area Networks

Download or read book Introduction to Local Area Networks written by Robert M. Thomas and published by Sybex. This book was released on 1997 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is a computer network and how does it work? How will your business benefit from a network? What type of network will best serve your needs? Introduction to Local Area Networks helps you answer these and many other critical questions. Using non-technical terms, it explores the fundamentals of computer networking, focusing on how a network can meet common business needs. Learn how a network can enable you to share data safely and effectively, support remote access by off-site personnel, and ensure that vital business information is accurate and up-to-date. With this book, you'll be able to learn how networks work, choose suitable network hardware, choose the right network operating system, choose applications and groupware, decide whether to build an Intranet, and hire and work with a network consultant.

Download or read book Information Sources in Information Technology written by David Haynes and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of each volume of this series Guides to Information Sources is to reduce the time which needs to be spent on patient searching and to recommend the best starting point and sources most likely to yield the desired information. The criteria for selection provide a way into a subject to those new to the field and assists in identifying major new or possibly unexplored sources to those who already have some acquaintance with it. The series attempts to achieve evaluation through a careful selection of sources and through the comments provided on those sources.

Book Introduction to Computer Assisted Experimentation

Download or read book Introduction to Computer Assisted Experimentation written by Kenneth L. Ratzlaff and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1987-02-04 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents the principles of using a small computer for laboratory automation as an aid in scientific experimentation. In language accessible to scientists in most fields, it provides the information needed to allow scientists to develop a powerful instrumentation system based on a personal computer. Describes the basic components of a small computer and the function of that computer in the laboratory. Goes on to show how the interface between computer and phenomena of an experiment can be approached at different levels using the information provided--for instance, description of a wide variety of sensors can lead the user toward the solution of many types of laboratory problems. Discusses several other types of problems commonly encountered in the experimental process, such as making a personal computer communicate with other devices, small computer graphics, and computational problems directly related to experimental data.
