Book Manufacturing Technology in the Electronics Industry

Download or read book Manufacturing Technology in the Electronics Industry written by P. Edwards and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sequence of events which led to the writing of this book started at a seminar on Manufacturing Technology in the Electronics Industry given by the Institution of Production Engineers in 1987. The seminar identified that the field of manufacturing engineering for the electronics industry was effectively missing from the vast majority of production engineering degree courses. The reason for this was that production engineering departments typically spring from mechanical engineering departments. This leads to a mechanical bias in the practical aspects of such courses. The consequence of this was that electronics companies could not recruit graduates with both relevant production engineering and electronic engineering backgrounds. This necessitated either recruiting production engineering graduates and giving them the necessary electronic engineering training, or giving production engineering training to electronic engineering graduates. A consequence of the lack of courses in a subject is that there is also a lack of relevant textbooks in the area, as most textbooks are intended to tie into courses. In the field of manufacturing technology for the electronics industry, existing textbooks tend to be highly specialized and mainly concerned with the fabrication of semiconductor devices.

Book An Introduction to CAD for VLSI

Download or read book An Introduction to CAD for VLSI written by Stephen Trimberger and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987-06-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last decade has seen an explosion in integrated circuit technology. Improved manufacturing processes have led to ever smaller device sizes. Chips with over a hundred thousand transistors have become common and performance has improved dramatically. Alongside this explosion in manufacturing technology has been a much-less-heralded explosion of design tool capability that has enabled designers to build those large, complex devices. The tools have allowed designers to build chips in less time, reducing the cost and risk. Without the design tools, we would not now be seeing the full benefits of the advanced manufacturing technology. The Scope of This Book This book describes the implementation of several tools that are commonly used to design integrated circuits. The tools are the most common ones used for computer aided design and represent the mainstay of design tools in use in the industry today. This book describes proven techniques. It is not a survey of the newest and most exotic design tools, but rather an introduction to the most common, most heavily-used tools. It does not describe how to use computer aided design tools, but rather how to write them. It is a view behind the screen, describing data structures, algorithms and code organization. This book covers a broad range of design tools for Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). The focus of the discussion is on tools for transistor-level physical design and analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Broad coverage of digital product creation, from design to manufacture and process optimization This book addresses the need to provide up-to-date coverage of current CAD/CAM usage and implementation. It covers, in one source, the entire design-to-manufacture process, reflecting the industry trend to further integrate CAD and CAM into a single, unified process. It also updates the computer aided design theory and methods in modern manufacturing systems and examines the most advanced computer-aided tools used in digital manufacturing. Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing consists of three parts. The first part on Computer Aided Design (CAD) offers the chapters on Geometric Modelling; Knowledge Based Engineering; Platforming Technology; Reverse Engineering; and Motion Simulation. The second part on Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) covers Group Technology and Cellular Manufacturing; Computer Aided Fixture Design; Computer Aided Manufacturing; Simulation of Manufacturing Processes; and Computer Aided Design of Tools, Dies and Molds (TDM). The final part includes the chapters on Digital Manufacturing; Additive Manufacturing; and Design for Sustainability. The book is also featured for being uniquely structured to classify and align engineering disciplines and computer aided technologies from the perspective of the design needs in whole product life cycles, utilizing a comprehensive Solidworks package (add-ins, toolbox, and library) to showcase the most critical functionalities of modern computer aided tools, and presenting real-world design projects and case studies so that readers can gain CAD and CAM problem-solving skills upon the CAD/CAM theory. Book Computer Integrated Manufacturing Handbook

Download or read book Computer Integrated Manufacturing Handbook written by V.D. Hunt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Manufacturing has entered the early stages of a revolutionary period caused by the convergence of three powerful trends: • The rapid advancement and spread of manufacturing capabilities worldwide has created intense competition on a global scale. • The emergence of advanced manufacturing technologies is dramati cally changing both the products and processes of modern manufac turing. • Changes in traditional management and labor practices, organiza tional structures, and decision-making criteria represent new sources of competitiveness and introduce new strategic opportunities. These trends are interrelated and their effects are already being felt by the u.s. manufacturing community. Future competitiveness for manu facturers worldwide will depend on their response to these trends. Based on the recent performance of u.s. manufacturers, efforts to respond to the challenges posed by new competition, technology, and managerial opportunities have been slow and inadequate. Domestic markets that were once secure have been assailed by a growing number of foreign competitors producing high quality goods at low prices. In a number of areas, such as employment, capacity utilization, research and development expenditures, and capital investment, trends in u.s. manufacturing over the last decade have been unfavorable or have not kept pace with major foreign competitors, such as Japan. There is substantial evidence that many u.s. manufacturers have neglected the manufacturing function, have overemphasized product development at the expense of process improvements, and have not begun to make the adjustments that will be necessary to be competitive.
