Book The History of Money for Understanding Economics

Download or read book The History of Money for Understanding Economics written by Vincent Lannoye and published by Vincent Lannoye. This book was released on 2023-05-19 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economics, cornerstone of politics Examining politics demands understanding of economics, as the economy always influences and constrains governmental decision-making. And, money is the key to learning economics. If the monetary system is well understood, it will clarify seemingly impenetrable economic events. The History of Money for Understanding Economics is an indispensable reference to decrypt economics, and it does so in an enthralling way, from antiquity to the present day, with readily accessible language. This book answers the following questions: How did money appear? What precisely is a bank? After circulating for centuries, why did gold coins vanish? Is there anything behind the value of paper banknotes? What is inflation? What is the IMF? Is the US trade deficit sustainable? A monetary solution, rather than a political one This book joins other groundbreaking interpretations of history that have underscored the influence of the management of money. It explains how monetary changes have precipitated events from the fall of the Roman Empire to World War II and beyond. Given the historical significance of monetary changes, could a monetary breakthrough shake up the exasperating inequalities? Indeed, Lannoye challenges the reader with a monetary innovation to finance a parallel (and green!) economy which could foster a more equitable distribution of wealth.

Download or read book INTRODUCTION TO AFRICAN SOCIAL POLICIES written by Julien Bokilo and published by American Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-12-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the precolonial period to today, Julien Bokilo analyzes the effectiveness of social and economic measures undertaken for the development of the Republic of Congo with regard to all of sub-Saharan Africa. This documented and unprecedented sociohistorical study feeds on new perspectives in public policy planning, development and implementation. • The knowledge of specificities of poverty and exclusion in the African companies; • The possibility of making the correlation and the transposition of the principles of the public policies on the African facts, the case of the reintegration of the native populations and the albinos. In addition, the relevance of this work is in the fact that it tackles the question of the struggle against the poverty and the exclusion, which are problems whose recurrence is quasi endemic and alarming in process of the socio-economic and political development process of African countries. Also, in an economic context of unprecedented crisis in Republic of Congo and in the surrounding countries, the economic zone of the central Africa sub-area mainly, the social policies are of an interest somehow crucial for their capacities to suppress the harmful effects of the recessions. In fact, this work really meets a scientific expectation, as it is based on verifiable arguments, because founded on the theory and the facts.

Book Economies under Occupation

Download or read book Economies under Occupation written by Marcel Boldorf and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nazi Germany and Japan occupied huge areas at least for some period during World War II, and those territories became integral parts of their war economies. The book focuses on the policies of World War II aggressors in occupied countries. The unbalanced economic and financial relations were defined by administrative control, the implementation of institutions and a variety of military exploitation strategies. Plundering, looting and requisitions were frequent aggressive acts, but beyond these interventions by force, specific institutions were created to gain control over the occupied economies as a whole. An appropriate institutional setting was also crucial to give incentives to the companies in the occupied countries to produce munitions for the aggressors. The book explains the main fields of war exploitation (organisation and control, war financing and workforce recruitment). It substantiates these aspects in case studies of occupied countries and gives examples of the business policy of multinational companies under war conditions. The book also provides an account of differences and similarities of the two occupation systems. Economies under Occupation will interest researchers specialising in the history of economic thought as well as in economic theory and philosophy. It will also engage readers concerned with regional European and Japanese studies and imperial histories.

Book Studies in the History of Public Economics

Download or read book Studies in the History of Public Economics written by Gilbert Faccarello and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important economic and political debates today refer to the nature and the role of the State: should governments intervene in the economy and interfere with the operation of markets? In which occasions, and how? In order to better understand these questions and the controversies they have raised, this book re-considers the debates crucial for the issues at stake, the most important schools of thought, and the central concepts in an historical perspective. After a tribute to Sir Alan Peacock and the first publication of two hitherto unpublished papers written in the 1950s, the chapters focus on important developments that occurred in Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The final part includes contributions on public economics after World War II, focusing on concepts such as merit goods, externalities and the “Coase theorem”. This book was originally published as a special issue of The European Journal of the History of Economic Thought.
