Book Introducing Foreign Models for Development

Download or read book Introducing Foreign Models for Development written by Izumi Ohno and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book studies how foreign models of economic development can be effectively learned by and applied to today’s latecomer countries. Policy capacity and societal learning are increasingly stressed as pre-conditions for successful catch-up. However, how such learning should be initiated by individual societies with different features needs to be explained. The book answers this pragmatic question from the perspective of Japan’s past experience and its extensive development cooperation in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Since the late nineteenth century, Japan has developed a unique philosophy and method for adopting advanced technologies and systems from the West; the same philosophy and method govern its current cooperation with the developing world. The key concepts are local learning and translative adaptation. Local learning says that development requires the learner to adopt a proactive mindset and the goal of graduating from receiving aid. Meanwhile, translative adaptation requires foreign models be modified to fit local realities given the different structures of the home and foreign society. The development process must be wholly owned by the domestic society in rejection of copy-and-paste acceptance. These ideas not only informed Japan but are key to successful development for all. The book also asks how this learning method should—or should not—be revised in the age of SDGs and digitalization. Following the overview section that lays out the general principles, the book offers many real cases from Japan and other countries. The concrete actions outlined in these cases, with close attention to individual growth “ingredients” as opposed to general theories, are crucial to successful policy making. The book contains materials that are highly useful for national leaders and practitioners within developing countries as well as students of development studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Banking today is not what it was some years back. The basic purpose for which banks came into being was deposit mobilization and credit dispensation, which in a short form can be called 3-6-3 banking. It is not the same any more as the major agenda of the banks today is to multiply profits through an array of services like insurance, mutual fund, wealth management etc. to customers. The growth of financial markets, blurring of product boundaries, new network technologies have brought in enormous opportunities in the banking sector. The key to success is knowledge on the subject and updation of the events in the sector. Living up to the aspirations and requirements of the industry, many Indian Universities have introduced Banking as a subject in the curriculum of management courses at the undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. Business Schools and institutes of academic excellence have evolved exclusive courses on Banking to tap the potential in the field. This book meets the requirements of the subject in all its angles and intends to serve the requirements of management students who would like to make a career in banking and for those in pursuit of promotional avenues within the bank.

Book European Union Policy Making

Download or read book European Union Policy Making written by Nicole Herweg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book furthers the ongoing theoretical development of the multiple streams framework, assessing its applicability to European Union (EU) policy-making processes. It systematically defines and identifies functional equivalents for all of the framework’s core concepts at the EU level and extends the framework in order to explain agenda-setting and decision-making. Furthermore, the book derives a set of explicit hypotheses to empirically assess the extent to which the (modified) framework is able to explain timing, agenda prominence, and policy change (or a lack thereof) for the EU natural gas directives passed in 1998, 2003, and 2009. The analysis documents that the framework is well-suited to explain the EU policy process in general and reveals where additional theoretical refinements are required.

Book Introduction to Zeolite Science and Practice

Download or read book Introduction to Zeolite Science and Practice written by P.A. Jacobs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-06-26 with total page 1085 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In view of the substantial progress made in the last decade in the fields of zeolites and related materials it was decided to go for an extended 2nd Edition of "Introduction to Zeolite Science and Practice". Unfortunately - as often is the case - this process took more time than expected by the Editors. In the mean time some new texts on zeolites were issued. Nevertheless, the combination of data, discussion and dedication provided by the present book is a unique coverage of the field, in the opinion of the Editors. In the present Edition the number of chapters rose from 16-22. The contributions can be divided into three categories: updated chapters by the original authors, updated chapters by an expanded or new team of authors and completely new chapters. This 2nd Edition also contains new chapters on "Zeolite-based supramolecular assemblies" (by Dirk De Vos and Pierre Jacobs, experts in this area) and on "The use of bulky probe molecules" (by Paul Kunkeler, Roger Downing and one of the Editors). Finally, the super large pore zeolites and the fast growing area of ordered mesoporous materials are dealt with by Eelco Vogt, Charlie Kresge and and Jim Vartuli. The latter two authors belong to the discoverers of the M41S family of mesoporous materials.

Book Auroral Phenomenology and Magnetospheric Processes

Download or read book Auroral Phenomenology and Magnetospheric Processes written by Andreas Keiling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 197. Many of the most basic aspects of the aurora remain unexplained. While in the past terrestrial and planetary auroras have been largely treated in separate books, Auroral Phenomenology and Magnetospheric Processes: Earth and Other Planets takes a holistic approach, treating the aurora as a fundamental process and discussing the phenomenology, physics, and relationship with the respective planetary magnetospheres in one volume. While there are some behaviors common in auroras of the different planets, there are also striking differences that test our basic understanding of auroral processes. The objective, upon which this monograph is focused, is to connect our knowledge of auroral morphology to the physical processes in the magnetosphere that power and structure discrete and diffuse auroras. Understanding this connection will result in a more complete explanation of the aurora and also further the goal of being able to interpret the global auroral distributions as a dynamic map of the magnetosphere. The volume synthesizes five major areas: auroral phenomenology, aurora and ionospheric electrodynamics, discrete auroral acceleration, aurora and magnetospheric dynamics, and comparative planetary aurora. Covering the recent advances in observations, simulation, and theory, this book will serve a broad community of scientists, including graduate students, studying auroras at Mars, Earth, Saturn, and Jupiter. Projected beyond our solar system, it may also be of interest for astronomers who are looking for aurora-active exoplanets.

Book An Introduction to Homological Algebra

Download or read book An Introduction to Homological Algebra written by Joseph J. Rotman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-12-10 with total page 722 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduate mathematics students will find this book an easy-to-follow, step-by-step guide to the subject. In this new edition the book has been updated and revised throughout and new material on sheaves and cup products has been added. The author has also included material about homotopical algebra, alias K-theory. Learning homological algebra is a two-stage affair. First, one must learn the language of Ext and Tor. Second, one must be able to compute these things with spectral sequences. Here is a work that combines the two.
