Book Learning Outcomes Academic Credit and Student Mobility

This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is increasing interest in the use of learning outcomes in postsecondary education, and deliberations have surfaced with regard to their potential to serve as a tool for advancing credit transfer. Learning Outcomes, Academic Credit, and Student Mobility assesses the conceptual foundations, assumptions, and implications of using learning outcomes for the purposes of postsecondary credit transfer and student mobility. Through a critical review of current approaches to the use of learning outcomes across national and international jurisdictions, scholars and practitioners in postsecondary education provide a multivalent examination of their potential impacts in the unique context of Ontario and recommend future directions for the system. The collected works are the culmination of a multi-year study entitled Learning Outcomes for Transfer, funded by the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer. Contributions are authored by prominent international scholars across countries with significant outcomes-based experience and education reforms (South Africa, the United States, Australia, Europe, and the United Kingdom) and an Ontario research consortium comprising college and university experts working to advance student pathways.

Book Interprovincial Mobility in Canada

Download or read book Interprovincial Mobility in Canada written by Ross Finnie and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigates the topic of interprovincial mobility by analyzing its determinants at the individual level. Data for the study come from the recently available Longitudinal Administrative Databank, a representative sample of Canadian tax filers. The analysis uses a panel logit model approach where the probability that a person moves from one year to the next is specified to be a function of various environmental factors (current province of residence, provincial unemployment rate, area size of residence), personal attributes (language, marital status, age, presence of children), some key labour market characteristics (earnings level, receipt of unemployment insurance and social assistance), and a series of year variables which capture any general shifts in the extent of interprovincial mobility over time. All non-student adults aged 20-54 are included in the analysis, while separate models are estimated for four different age groups for each sex, thereby facilitating the comparison of mobility patterns among these different groups.

It offers a comparative approach based on several national case-studies, and proposes alternatives to prevalent approaches.

  • Author : John Stackhouse
  • Publisher : Random House Canada
  • Release : 2020-10-06
  • ISBN : 0345815823
  • Pages : 320 pages

Download or read book Planet Canada written by John Stackhouse and published by Random House Canada. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading thinker on Canada's place in the world contends that our country's greatest untapped resource may be the three million Canadians who don't live here. Entrepreneurs, educators, humanitarians: an entire province's worth of Canadian citizens live outside Canada. Some will return, others won't. But what they all share is the ability, and often the desire, to export Canadian values to a world sorely in need of them. And to act as ambassadors for Canada in industries and societies where diplomatic efforts find little traction. Surely a country with people as diverse as Canada's ought to plug itself into every corner of the globe. We don't, and sometimes not even when our expats are eager to help. Failing to put this desire to work, contends bestselling author and longtime foreign correspondent John Stackhouse, is a grave error for a small country whose voice is getting lost behind developing nations of rapidly increasing influence. The soft power we once boasted is getting softer, but we have an unparalleled resource, if we choose to use it. To ensure Canada's place in the world, Stackhouse argues in Planet Canada, we need this exceptional province of expats and their special claim on the twenty-first century.

Book Overpromising and Underperforming

Download or read book Overpromising and Underperforming written by Peter Graefe and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public reporting has been used experimentally in federal-provincial relations since the mid-1990s as an accountability mechanism to promote policy effectiveness, intergovernmental cooperation, and democratic legitimacy. Our understanding of how well it is working, however, remains limited to very specific policy sectors – even though this information is essential to policy makers in Canada and beyond. Overpromising and Underperforming? offers a deeper analysis of the use of new accountability mechanisms, paying particular attention to areas in which federal spending power is used. This is the first volume to specifically analyse the accountability features of Canadian intergovernmental agreements and to do so systematically across policy sectors. Drawing on the experiences of other federal systems and multilevel governance structures, the contributors investigate how public reporting has been used in various policy fields and the impact it has had on policy-making and intergovernmental relations.
