Book Self healing Materials

Download or read book Self healing Materials written by Martin D. Hager and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-06 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Advances in Polymer Science presents critical reviews of the present and future trends in polymer and biopolymer science. It covers all areas of research in polymer and biopolymer science including chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, material science. The thematic volumes are addressed to scientists, whether at universities or in industry, who wish to keep abreast of the important advances in the covered topics. Advances in Polymer Science enjoys a longstanding tradition and good reputation in its community. Each volume is dedicated to a current topic, and each review critically surveys one aspect of that topic, to place it within the context of the volume. The volumes typically summarize the significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years and discuss them critically, presenting selected examples, explaining and illustrating the important principles, and bringing together many important references of primary literature. On that basis, future research directions in the area can be discussed. Advances in Polymer Science volumes thus are important references for every polymer scientist, as well as for other scientists interested in polymer science - as an introduction to a neighboring field, or as a compilation of detailed information for the specialist. Review articles for the individual volumes are invited by the volume editors. Single contributions can be specially commissioned. Readership: Polymer scientists, or scientists in related fields interested in polymer and biopolymer science, at universities or in industry, graduate students

Book Analytical Measurement Terminology

Download or read book Analytical Measurement Terminology written by Elizabeth Prichard and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variety of complex terms used in the Quality Assurance aspect of analytical measurement can be the cause of considerable confusion. This unique handbook explains the most widely-used terminology in language that is readily understood, and attempts to place each term in context. Concepts are described in a way that is useful to all practitioners, particularly those concerned with quality assurance, validation and reliability of analytical measurements. Explanations of terms are always in line with the "official definition", often developed by international committees. Adopting a thematic approach, Analytical Measurement Terminology is divided into six main parts. The first four parts address the logical progression of an analytical measurement, from obtaining a sample, through method and materials, to reporting the result. The two remaining parts include a variety of terms encountered in quality systems and documentation, along with definitions of "mathematical" terms likely to be encountered by the analyst in their everyday work. The index provides easy access to both the definitions and the accompanying examples. With its straightforward descriptions and many examples, this handbook, produced as part of the VAM (Valid Analytical Measurement) programme, will provide valuable assistance for a wide variety of new and experienced practitioners, as well as for teachers and lecturers.

Book Measurement across the Sciences

Download or read book Measurement across the Sciences written by Luca Mari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a conceptual framework for understanding measurement across a broad range of scientific fields and areas of application, such as physics, engineering, education, and psychology. The authors, who themselves span these disciplines, argue that the justification of the public trust attributed to measurement results can in principle apply identically to both physical and psychosocial properties. They further argue that the lack of a common conceptualization of measurement hampers interdisciplinary communication and limits the ability to share knowledge. They advance their views by first surveying the conceptual history of the philosophy of measurement and arguing that classical, operationalist and representational perspectives on measurement each make important contributions but also each have important shortcomings. A synthesis is then offered as the foundation for a new conceptual framework. The authors describe how the framework, which operates as a shared concept system, supports understanding measurement’s work in different domains, using examples in the physical and human sciences. They consider connections and consequences with respect to causality, objectivity, and intersubjectivity, among other topics, and how measurement science concepts and issues are construed across these disciplines and settings. They also address contemporary issues and controversies within measurement in the light of the framework, including operationalism, definitional uncertainty, and the relations between measurement and computation. The book concludes with a justification for the basic claim that measurement is an empirical and informational process that produces explicitly justifiable information. Researchers and academics across a wide range of disciplines including biological, physical, social and behavioral scientists, as well as specialists in measurement and philosophy will appreciate the work’s fresh and provocative approach to the field at a time when sound measurements of complex scientific systems are increasingly essential to solving critical global problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The quality technician is a person responsible for understanding and utilizing quality concepts and tools, statistical techniques, metrology and calibration procedures and protocols, inspection and test techniques, quality auditing, and preventive and corrective action in the context of product/process/service improvement or in correcting problems. Quality technicians frequently work in the quality function of organizations in the various measurement and inspection laboratories, as well as on the shop floor supporting and interacting with quality engineers, mechanical inspectors, and production/service delivery personnel. This book supports individuals preparing for, or those already performing, this type of work. It is intended to serve as a ready reference for quality technicians and quality technicians-in-training, as well as a comprehensive reference for those individuals preparing to take the ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) examination. Examples and problems used throughout the handbook are thoroughly explained, are algebra-based, and are drawn from real world” situations encountered in the quality profession. To assist readers in using the book as a ready reference or as a study aid, the book has been organized so as to conform closely to the 2018 CQT Body of Knowledge (BoK).

Book Compendium of Terminology and Nomenclature of Properties in Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Download or read book Compendium of Terminology and Nomenclature of Properties in Clinical Laboratory Sciences written by Georges Férard and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2016-11-18 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been significant expansion and development in clinical laboratory sciences and, in particular, metrological concepts, definitions and terms since the previous edition of this book was published in 1995. It is of prime importance to standardize laboratory reports for reliable exchange of patient examination data without loss of meaning or accuracy. New disciplines have appeared and the interrelationships between different disciplines within clinical laboratory sciences demand a common structure and language for data exchange, in the laboratory and with the clinicians, necessitating additional coverage in this book. These new sections will be based upon recommendations published by various national, regional, and international bodies especially IUPAC and IFCC. This book groups and updates the recommendations and will be appropriate for laboratory scientists, medical professionals and students in this area.
