  • Pages : 890 pages

Download or read book Drills written by Viktor P. Astakhov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 890 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a presentation that balances theory and practice, Drills: Science and Technology of Advanced Operations details the basic concepts, terminology, and essentials of drilling. The book addresses important issues in drilling operations, and provides help with the design of such operations. It debunks many old notions and beliefs while introducing scientifically and technically sound concepts with detailed explanations. The book presents a nine-step drilling tool failure analysis methodology that includes part autopsy and tool reconstruction procedure. A special feature of the book is the presentation of special mechanisms of carbide (e.g. cobalt leaching) and polycrystalline (PCD) tool wear and failure presented and correlated with the tool design, manufacturing, and implementation practice. The author also introduces the system approach to the design of the drilling system formulating the coherency law. Using this law as the guideline, he shows how to formulate the requirement to the components of such a system, pointing out that the drilling tool is the key component to be improved. Teaching how to achieve this improvement, the book provides the comprehensive scientific and engineering foundations for drilling tool design, manufacturing, and applications of high-performance tools. It includes detailed explanations of the design features, tool manufacturing and implementation practices, metrology of drilling and drilling tools, and the tool failure analysis. It gives you the information needed for proper manufacturing and selection of a tool material for any given application.

Book High Productivity Drilling Tools

Download or read book High Productivity Drilling Tools written by Viktor P. Astakhov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-05-03 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This completely updated volume covers tool materials, tolerances, an inspection of drilling tools, requirements of tool drawings with examples, and methodologies and procedures of failure analysis. It introduces a new line of HP drilling tools called VPA designs and brings it into sharp focus signifying its importance in drilling operations. High-Productivity Drilling Tools: Materials, Metrology, and Failure Analysis further develops the concept of the metrology of the drilling tools introduced in the first edition. For the first time, the relevant metrological parameters are clearly defined with tolerance for HPHD with practical examples of step-by-step inspection/measurement using advanced tool measurement microscopes and CNC machines. A pros and cons list as a quick and easy decision-making tool for the choice of measuring equipment for a particular application is offered along with practical examples of drilling tool drawings to help tool designers, cutting tool and manufacturing engineers, and users in their everyday activities in the design and selection of HPDT for a particular application. An unparalleled presentation of metalworking fluids (MWFs, a.k.a. coolants) is given and covers all the start of the business: selection, implementation in HPDT and drilling operation, monitoring, and maintenance. A two-step procedure for successful implementation of near-dry machining (NDM) or minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) is presented, and a discussion of the wear of the drilling tool, its proper assessments, and metrics are provided in the evaluation of tool life and quality of machined holes. This practical book should be on the shelves of all industrial engineers, those working in production and manufacturing, process designers, tool material designers, cutting tool designers, and quality specialists. Researchers, senior undergraduate students, and graduate students will also find this book full of very helpful reference information and the source of new ideas and notions in drilling tool development. This book is also available as a set - Drills: High-Productivity Drilling Tools, 2-Volume Set (9781032203508).

Book Modern Developments in Powder Metallurgy

Download or read book Modern Developments in Powder Metallurgy written by Henry H. Hausner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five years ago, the worldwide powder metallurgy fraternity gathered in New York City to attend the first international conference devoted entirely to powder metal lurgy to take place in the United States. It was a tentative venture, entered into by the sponsors with no idea as to whether it would fail or succeed. The only assurances we had were that the metal-powder producing and consuming industries were rapidly expanding and that powder metallurgy was truly becoming one of the international sciences. The 1960 Conference was successful not only in terms of attendance and interest, but also in terms of knowledge gained. The literature had been enriched by the contributions of its participants to foster and encourage this type of world wide exchange. Thus, another such conference was held in 1965-expanded in scope and supplemented by an exhibition of the latest advances in raw materials, processing equipment, and finished products of powder metallurgy. On behalf of the Conference sponsors-the Metal Powder Industries Federa tion, the American Powder Metallurgy Institute, and the Metallurgical Society of AIME-I thank all those who participated and who helped make the 1965 Interna tional Powder Metallurgy Conference a rewarding experience and memorable event in our industry's history. Support of the National Science Foundation, which made it possible for several speakers from abroad to participate in the program, is gratefully acknowledged.
