Book The United Nations and Transnational Organized Crime

Download or read book The United Nations and Transnational Organized Crime written by Ernesto Savona and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transnational organized crime poses a serious threat to the international community. This volume, the product of a UN conference, discusses the dangers of transnational organized crime and identifies forms of regional, national and international co-operation for its prevention and control, including intelligence networks, preventive strategies, extradition treaties, criminalizing participation in criminal organizations and the elaboration of an international convention. The reduction and subsequent containment of transnational organized crime require governments not only to recognize the seriousness of the challenge, but also to allocate resources commensurate with this challenge. The authors warn that should the international community fail to do this, the prospects for democratic government and the rule of law will be gloomy.

Book Strategies of the EU and the US in Combating Transnational Organized Crime

Download or read book Strategies of the EU and the US in Combating Transnational Organized Crime written by Brice Ruyver and published by Maklu. This book was released on 2002 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 23 to 26 January 2001 the incoming Belgian Presidency of the European Union organized an international conference on the strategies of the European Union and the United States in combating transnational organized crime. The conference gathered policy-makers, police and judicial authorities and other actors with a view to discussing important problems regarding the fight against organized crime. Apart from focusing on the European dimension of the subject (including Eastern Europe), the conference primarily addressed co-operation with the United States. This book collects, along with a number of plenary reports, texts that have been presented and discussed at the conference during the workshops, dealing with integrity and control on information exchange, cross-border operational activities, international/regional framework to fight organized crime, intelligence gathering in the context of peace-keeping activities, training of law enforcement authorities, integrity/corruption, drug trafficking, trafficking in human beings, money laundering and cyber crime.

Book International Cooperation in Criminal Matters

Download or read book International Cooperation in Criminal Matters written by Isolda Lins Ribeiro and published by Initia Via Editora. This book was released on 2029-08-28 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite of the United Nations (UN) efforts to encourage the fight against transnational organized crime (TOC) , the most effective model of cooperation nowadays comes from the European Union (EU). Aware of the threat represented by the TOC, the EU developed, in 1999, a “comprehensive strategy on tackling TOC” . Through this innovative approach, audacious and dynamic tools were built, both in theory as in practice. Having established the “principle of mutual recognition of judicial decisions” as the cornerstone of cooperation, the EU created the European Arrest Warrant, which was responsible for breaching all parameters of cooperation then known. A solid operational structure also contributed to enhance cooperation, through the enlargement of the Europol’s mandate and establishment of new bodies to foment judicial cooperation . Considering the latest EU’s legal improvements in the field, the South American region could possibly benefit from the implementation of the “principle of mutual recognition”, in terms of an arrest warrant. With regard to the operative structure, the establishment of a police force, in the model of Europol, could possibly profit the researched region. Initia Via Editora

Book G8 against Transnational Organized Crime

Download or read book G8 against Transnational Organized Crime written by Amandine Scherrer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fight against money laundering, drug trafficking, illegal immigration, cyber crime, and the promotion of the enhancement of judicial and police cooperation in criminal matters have been at the core of the G8's actions in this field since the 1990s. This book sheds light on the nature, structure and modus operandi of the G8's specific expertise on transnational organized crime from a sociological approach in order to understand the elaboration, production and diffusion of international norms and standards. It provides a detailed analysis of an under-researched aspect of international politics: the intensification of expert-level exchanges on the international stage over the enhanced cooperation against transnational organized crime that has led to an impressive elaboration of best practices and soft law recommendations. Very few studies have focused on the experts who determine these: who they are, what their socio-professional background is, and the nature and impact of their collective work in the global fight against organized crime.

Book Organized Crime and Corruption Across Borders

Download or read book Organized Crime and Corruption Across Borders written by T. Wing Lo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the criminogenic potential for economic, financial, and socio-cultural cooperation across countries, where some are known for weak law enforcement and high levels of corruption. It examines whether these flows of capital are increasing the amount of organized crime in the newly linked regions and how law enforcement agencies are responding. Bringing together experts across the Global South and Europe, this book considers transnational organized crime and corruption across One Belt One Road (OBOR). It examines crime and corruption in China and its international United Front tactic; analyzes various forms of transnational organized crime such as trafficking of illegal drugs, looted antiquities, and wildlife and counterfeit products; and presents studies on corruption and organized crime in selected OBOR countries including Russia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Poland, and Bangladesh. This book makes a significant contribution to the development of southern criminology and will also be of interest to those engaged with transnational organized crime, political economy, international relations, and Asian and Chinese studies.
