Das ist die technische Seite der modernen Kommunikation - inhaltlich lassen sich schnell Grenzen etwas anderer Art feststellen. Menschen sind im Unterschied zum Computer nicht technisch jedoch kulturell unterschiedlich ‘programmiert’, was reibungslose Kommunikation über nationale, regionale, kontinentale und damit auch kulturelle Grenzen hinweg verhindert und zu Missverständnissen führen kann. Die Grenze zu Fremdheit rückt immer näher - um Fremdheit zu erleben muss man heute gar nicht mehr in Urlaub fahren oder auf Geschäftsreise gehen: ‘Der Fremde ist in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft’ (Hunfeld 2004: 66). Das kann ein Nachbar, ein Kollege oder sogar ein Freund sein - jeder hat in seiner Umgebung Menschen, die anderer Kultur oder sogar anderen Kulturen zugehören - Interkulturalität ist zur Realität geworden und zwingt unsere Gesellschaft dazu, sich mit diesem Thema auseinanderzusetzen. Interkulturelle Kompetenz wird zu einer Schlüsselkompetenz, die ähnlich wie Basisenglisch und Computerwissen in den meisten beruflichen und sozialen Bereichen absolut notwendig sind. Noch werden die Maßnahmen, in denen interkulturelle Kompetenz zum Thema gemacht wird, individuell und gezielt initiiert - sei es in einem Unternehmen als Vorbereitung für Auslandseinsätze oder in einer sozialen Einrichtung, wo Interkulturalität mit hohem Konfliktpotenzial gleichgesetzt wird (z.B. Schulen). Dennoch bin ich überzeugt, dass in nächster Zukunft diese Schlüsselkompetenz als Modul im Bildungs- und Weiterbildungssystem flächendeckend integriert wird. Das Bewusstsein des Bedarfs nimmt zu und wird bald in der Fragestellung nach einer praktischen Umsetzung ausbrechen. Die vorliegende Studie beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, welche Kompetenzen ein Individuum braucht, um mit Menschen anderer Kulturen - sei es beruflich mit Kollegen oder privat im Alltag - zu kommunizieren und zwar produktiv. ‘Interkulturelle Kompetenz’ ist also einer der zentralen Begriffe dieser Studie, sie wird ausgelegt und ihre inhaltliche Komponente einzeln untersucht und beschrieben. Der zweite Schwerpunkt der vorliegenden Studie ist die Frage ‘Wie lässt sich interkulturelle Kompetenz entwickeln?’. Interkulturelles Training wird als Modul moderner Weiterbildung untersucht, die am häufigsten eingesetzten Methoden beschrieben und auf die Berücksichtigung einzelner Komponenten interkultureller Kompetenz untersucht. Die Fragestellung der vorliegenden Studie ist aus gesammelten Erfahrungen im Rahmen zweier relativ parallel absolvierter Praktika entstanden, nach drei Jahren praktischer Erfahrungen im Bereich ‘Interkulturelle Trainings’ habe ich mich dafür entschieden, im Rahmen einer Studie das Thema auf der wissenschaftlichen Ebene zu untersuchen.

Book excerpt: The late 4th millennium in South Mesopotamia is universally known as the Uruk Period because it is at Uruk that the German excavations have exposed the most remarkable manifestations of this complex society. Although the Uruk period in Iraq itself remains little understood, in recent decades artefacts and entire settlements have been discovered in places as far apart as the Mahi Dasht in Iran and the Euphrates in South-eastern Turkey. This volume attempts to track the Uruk phenomenon in the Near East, bringing together research on some of the most significant individual sites within the Levant and Egypt, placing emphasis on the artefactual evidence. The eleven papers were originally presented at a conference in Manchester in 1998. We hope and intend that it should make a timely and significant contribution to good practice and to encouraging more practitioners and their clients and more organizations to experiment with using electronic media to enrich coaching and mentoring. The view of ecoaching and e-mentoring is firmly one that these new media are less a replacement for traditional face-to-face than an enhancement of learning alliances in general.
