Book State of the art Laser Gas Sensing Technologies

Download or read book State of the art Laser Gas Sensing Technologies written by Yufei Ma and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace gas sensing technologies are widely used in many applications, such as environmental monitoring, life science, medical diagnostics, and planetary exploration. On the one hand, laser sources have developed greatly due to the rapid development of laser media and laser techniques in recent years. Some novel lasers such as solid-state, diode, and quantum cascade lasers have experienced significant progress. At present, laser wavelengths can cover the range from ultraviolet to terahertz, which could promote the development of laser gas sensing technologies significantly. On the other hand, some new gas sensing methods have appeared, such as photothermal spectroscopy and photoacoustic spectroscopy. Laser spectroscopy-based gas sensing techniques have the advantages of high sensitivity, non-invasiveness, and allowing in situ, real-time observation. Due to the rapid and recent developments in laser source as well as the great merits of laser spectroscopy-based gas sensing techniques, this book aims to provide an updated overview of the state-of-the-art laser gas sensing technologies.

Book Advanced Diagnostics in Combustion Science

Download or read book Advanced Diagnostics in Combustion Science written by Zhen-Yu Tian and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-12 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook, supported by the Textbook Publishing Center of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, provides a fundamental introduction to advanced diagnostics techniques for graduate students majoring in combustion science, chemistry, and chemical engineering-related subjects. The textbook provides an overview with respect to the spectroscopic methods in advanced diagnostics techniques such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, thermochemical analysis, Raman scattering, and nuclear magnetic resonance. It then describes the comprehensive basic theory, equipment structure, and testing methods of diagnostic techniques and summarizes the analysis methods commonly used in combustion chemical reaction processes. This can provide graduate students with important guidance and comprehensive understanding of diagnostics techniques before performing physics and chemistry experiments. In addition, it provides an introduction into using common mathematical and graphics packages for students to acquire and practice the tools to comply with international standards. The textbook is concise and illustrative and includes hot issues and current progress of diagnostics. In addition, exercises and questions are included at the end of each chapter for students to practice and gain hands-on experience. Given its scope, the textbook is of great benefit to graduate students in combustion chemistry and engineering and other related areas such as environmental science, optical engineering, and thermal science and is also beneficial for researchers with interdisciplinary backgrounds.

Book Laser Induced Fluorescence Imaging of Counterflow Diffusion Flames

Download or read book Laser Induced Fluorescence Imaging of Counterflow Diffusion Flames written by Kirk S. Tecu and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steady, laminar, H$\sb4$-air, opposed jet, diffusion flames are studied with a linewise linear LIF system. The concentration measurements from the P$\sb1(7)$ excitation line of OH are gathered over 50 shots with high precision (7%) and high spatial resolution (100 $\mu$m). The signals are corrected for temperature and quenching effects from previously measured temperature and major species profiles by a linewise Raman system. The OH profiles are spatially matched to previous Raman data by comparing peak Raman Stokes/perfect gas and two-line OH temperature measurements. The OH concentration profiles are measured in flames that vary in strain rate and initial fuel dilution; mole fractions of 21% hydrogen diluted with 79% nitrogen, 50% hydrogen diluted with 50% nitrogen, and undiluted hydrogen. OH profiles are viewed in both physical and mixture fraction space. Preferential diffusion effects are evident when OH profiles are viewed in mixture fraction space. Absolute peak OH concentration values in equimolar and undiluted flames show agreement, to within precision uncertainties, with computational predictions of similar flames. A comprehensive library of temperatures, major and minor species, and scalar dissipation rates in mixture fraction space is generated for the set of flame cases when the LIF data is combined with previous Raman measurements of the same flames.

Book Turbulent Premixed Flames

Download or read book Turbulent Premixed Flames written by Nedunchezhian Swaminathan and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-25 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A work on turbulent premixed combustion is important because of increased concern about the environmental impact of combustion and the search for new combustion concepts and technologies. An improved understanding of lean fuel turbulent premixed flames must play a central role in the fundamental science of these new concepts. Lean premixed flames have the potential to offer ultra-low emission levels, but they are notoriously susceptible to combustion oscillations. Thus, sophisticated control measures are inevitably required. The editors' intent is to set out the modeling aspects in the field of turbulent premixed combustion. Good progress has been made on this topic, and this cohesive volume contains contributions from international experts on various subtopics of the lean premixed flame problem.

Book Laser Induced Fluorescence and Ionization Techniques for Combustion Diagnostics

Download or read book Laser Induced Fluorescence and Ionization Techniques for Combustion Diagnostics written by BE. Forch and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light atomic species such as oxygen atoms (O) and hydrogen atoms (H) are fundamentally important in a wide variety of combustion-related phenomena such as flame ignition, propagation, extinction and in chemical flame reactions. Furthermore, they are difficult to detect by conventional laser based optical methods (laser induced fluorescence) in combustion environments because the necessary resonance excitation wavelengths fall far into the vacuum ultraviolet (vuv) and the requisite tunable laser sources are not generally available. However, recent developments in nonlinear spectroscopic techniques such as multiphoton induced emission (MPE) and multiphoton ionization (MPI) have made direct detection of these light atoms possible. We have utilized a number of laser multiphoton excitation schemes for their detection using tunable lasers in the 190 to 400 nm range. Similar diagnostic techniques were attempted for the detection of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) atoms in flames. The effects of laser induced photochemical pertubations on species detection in flames were also investigated. These nonlinear spectroscopic techniques have been demonstrated to be very useful in combustion studies but special care needs to be taken with respect to possible perturbations that may result from the use of short-wavelength lasers.
