Book Interactive Storytelling

Download or read book Interactive Storytelling written by Ulrike Spierling and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-11-27 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains scientific papers and case studies presented at Interactive Sto- telling ’08: The First Joint International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS), held November 26–29, 2008, in Erfurt, Germany. Interactive Digital Storytelling (IDS) is a cross-disciplinary topic, which explores new uses of interactive technologies for creating and experiencing narratives. IDS is also a huge step forward in games and learning. This can be seen through its ability to enrich virtual characters with intelligent behavior, to allow collaboration of humans and machines in the creative process, and to combine narrative knowledge and user activity in interactive artifacts. IDS involves concepts from many aspects of Computer Science, above all from Artificial Intelligence, with topics such as narrative intelligence, automatic dialogue and drama management, and smart graphics. In order to process stories in real time, traditional storytelling needs to be formalized into computable models by drawing from narratological studies. As it is currently hardly accessible for creators and e- users, there is a need for new authoring concepts and tools supporting the creation of such dynamic stories, allowing for rich and meaningful interaction with the content.

Book The new online trade

Download or read book The new online trade written by Gerrit Heinemann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-30 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents developments and future trends in e-commerce, which is shaped by customers' new digital communication and consumption patterns. Gerrit Heinemann sheds light on e-commerce business models, channel excellence as well as success factors such as digital time advantages and customer centricity. He analyzes the digital challenges and highlights the consequences and opportunities associated with online commerce. Recognized best practices illustrate how successful digital commerce works and what the "lessons learned" of the past years are. The 13th edition describes which new approaches will shape the future of online retail and which developments will remain long-term issues. While, for example, app and smartphone commerce, including mobile payment, continue to be long-running issues, the environmental issue is coming at online commerce with a concentrated charge. This means that people's growing need for more sustainability and consideration for the environment has now also arrived in e-commerce. This work is therefore devoted to sustainable e-commerce in the context of online logistics, which runs counter to the new trend towards quick commerce. The topics of climate neutrality and returns management are also increasingly coming into focus. In addition, current topics such as the marketplace theme and social commerce will be explored in greater depth. Furthermore, numerous new legal requirements are taken into account, which place increased obligations on marketplace operators in particular. The content - Meta-targeting and business ideas in online retailing - Business model of online trade - Forms of online trade - Business systems and benchmarks in e-commerce - Best practices and risks in online retailing

Download or read book Built to Win written by Lawrence Susskind and published by Harvard Business Press. This book was released on 2009-05-05 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Companies that consistently negotiate more valuable agreements?in ways that protect key relationships?enjoy an important but often overlooked competitive advantage. Until now, most companies have sought to improve their negotiation outcomes by sending individuals to training workshops. But this new groundbreaking book, using real-world examples from leading companies, shows a more powerful and less expensive way to achieve this. In Built to Win, authors Susskind and Movius argue that negotiation must be a strategic core competency. Drawing on their decades of training and consulting work, as well as a robust theory of negotiation, the authors provide a step-by-step model for building organizational competence. They show why the approach of ?training and more training? is a weak strategy. The authors also describe the organizational barriers that so often plague even experienced negotiators, and recommend ways of overcoming them. Built to Win explains the crucial role that leaders must play in setting goals, aligning incentives, pinpointing metrics, and supporting learning platforms to promote long-term success. A final chapter provides practical ?how-to? tools to help you start your own organizational improvement process. This book will be invaluable to CEOs, senior-level managers, HR business leaders, human resource professionals, sales and purchasing managers, and others who negotiate regularly.

Book Creole Cultures Vol 1

Download or read book Creole Cultures Vol 1 written by Violet Cuffy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-16 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection considers the significance of Creole cultures within current, changing global contexts. With a particular focus on post-colonial Small Island Developing States, it brings together perspectives from academics, policy makers and practitioners including those based in Dominica, St Lucia, Seychelles and Mauritius. Together they provide a rich exploration of issues that arise in relation to safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage that sustains Creole identities. Commencing with considerations of the UNESCO (2003) Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), the collection then presents case studies from the Seychelles, Mauritius, St. Lucia and Dominica. These attest to the many and different ways through which Creole cultural practices remain significant to the lived experiences of Creole communities. These chapters exemplify how through activities such as storytelling, singing, dancing, making artworks and the alternative economic practice of koudmen, Creole peoples sustain cultural identities that draw strength from their traditions. Yet there is also recognition of the continual struggle to sustain Creole cultural practices in the face of global economic and political pressures and related uncertainties. This global economic landscape also has an impact upon how Creole cultures are presented to tourists and hence upon the ways in which cultural practices are supported.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tips and techniques to build interactive learning into lecture classes Have you ever looked out across your students only to find them staring at their computers or smartphones rather than listening attentively to you? Have you ever wondered what you could do to encourage students to resist distractions and focus on the information you are presenting? Have you ever wished you could help students become active learners as they listen to you lecture? Interactive Lecturing is designed to help faculty members more effectively lecture. This practical resource addresses such pertinent questions as, “How can lecture presentations be more engaging?” “How can we help students learn actively during lecture instead of just sitting and passively listening the entire time?” Renowned authors Elizabeth F. Barkley and Claire H. Major provide practical tips on creating and delivering engaging lectures as well as concrete techniques to help teachers ensure students are active and fully engaged participants in the learning process before, during, and after lecture presentations. Research shows that most college faculty still rely predominantly on traditional lectures as their preferred teaching technique. However, research also underscores the fact that more students fail lecture-based courses than classes with active learning components. Interactive Lecturing combines engaging presentation tips with active learning techniques specifically chosen to help students learn as they listen to a lecture. It is a proven teaching and learning strategy that can be readily incorporated into every teacher’s methods. In addition to providing a synthesis of relevant, contemporary research and theory on lecturing as it relates to teaching and learning, this book features 53 tips on how to deliver engaging presentations and 32 techniques you can assign students to do to support their learning during your lecture. The tips and techniques can be used across instructional methods and academic disciplines both onsite (including small lectures and large lecture halls) as well as in online courses. This book is a focused, up-to-date resource that draws on collective wisdom from scholarship and practice. It will become a well-used and welcome addition for everyone dedicated to effective teaching in higher education.
