Book Pions In Nuclei Proceedings Of The International Workshop

Download or read book Pions In Nuclei Proceedings Of The International Workshop written by M J Vicente-vacas and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-03-27 with total page 730 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings reflect the recent experimental and theoretical progress in pion nuclear physics in topics like pionic atoms, pion absorption, charge exchange, (π, 2π), and others involving pions in nuclei using different probes, as electron photons or heavy ions. Related topics on chiral symmetry, low energy πN and (γ, π⁰) and quark degrees of freedom are also addressed.

Book Theory of the Low energy Pion nucleon Interaction

Download or read book Theory of the Low energy Pion nucleon Interaction written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A once-subtracted form of the Low equation for the pion-nucleon scattering amplitude is derived, with PCAC used to define the amplitude when one pion is off the mass shell. The static approximation is not made and both the seagull terms and the antinucleon contribution (z-graphs) are retained. The theory is applied to calculate the S-wave amplitudes in the elastic scattering region. Good agreement is found with the phase shift fits to the data when we use mod(g/sub .pi./(4M2)) = 11.69 and 25.5 MeV for the .pi.N sigma-commutator. The implications of this work for the analysis of low-energy elastic scattering of pions from nuclei are discussed. In particular, it is pointed out how this work establishes the presence of a Laplacian term in the pion-nucleus optical potential with a magnitude that is fixed from the value of the sigma-commutator.

Book Pions and Nuclei

Download or read book Pions and Nuclei written by Torleif Erik Oskar Ericson and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1988 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pion plays an outstanding role in nuclear physics as a generator of the nuclear force and as an important part of the nuclear many-body problem. At the same time, pion beams are used as probes to explore the nucleus and its interactions. As pion physics has matured over the years, a rich and diverse variety of phenomena has been uncovered. The aim of this book is to examine the underlying physical picture behind these phenomena in a systematic and coherent way. The authors emphasize the interplay between physical concepts and experimental facts more than the formal tools, which are presented in a series of appendices. The book is directed towards advanced students as well as research workers.

Book Pion Nuclear Interactions at Intermediate Energies

Download or read book Pion Nuclear Interactions at Intermediate Energies written by OREGON STATE UNIV CORVALLIS. and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the availability of intense beams of greatly improved energy resolution from LAMPF, interest in intermediate energy nuclear physics is at a high level. A major interest of the Oregon State University group is the study of elastic and inelastic scattering of pions from nuclei. Since pions exhibit several features not shared by low-energy nuclear projectiles they are especially interesting objects with which to probe nuclear structure in scattering experiments. This report contains a summary of instrumentation projects, and results from the experimental programs.

Book Weak and Electromagnetic Interactions in Nuclei

Download or read book Weak and Electromagnetic Interactions in Nuclei written by Hans Volker Klapdor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear physics is presently experiencing a thrust towards fundamental phy sics questions. Low-energy experiments help in testing beyond today's stan dard models of particle physics. The search for finite neutrino masses and neutrino oscillations, for proton decay, rare and forbidden muon and pion de cays, for an electric dipole moment of the neutron denote some of the efforts to test today's theories of grand unification (GUTs, SUSYs, Superstrings, ... ) complementary to the search for new particles and symmetries in high-energy experiments. The close connections between the laws of microphysics, astrophysics and cosmology open further perspectives. This concerns, to mention some of them, properties of exotic nuclei and nuclear matter, and star evolution; the neutrino and the dark matter in the universe; relations between grand unification and evolution of the early universe. The International Symposium on Weak and Electromagnetic Interactions in Nuclei (W.E.LN. 1986)' held in Heidelberg 1-5 July 1986, in conjunction with the 600th anniversary of the University of Heidelberg, brought together experts in the fields of nuclear and particle physics, astrophysics and cosmol ogy.
