Book Marine Technology and Transportation

Download or read book Marine Technology and Transportation written by T. Graczyk and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in international trade have had significant effects on the economics of marine transportation, and will continue to do so into the 21st century. This is compounded by the role of technological change and these consequent uncertainties have necessitated a review of advances in marine transportation. Marine technology, particularly the area of ship design, building and operation, is experiencing rapid changes in a more competitive world market. For any industry to remain competitive, it is of the utmost importance that new technologies are not only developed, but rapidly incorporated and put into use.

Book Ice Engineering

Download or read book Ice Engineering written by For Business Books for Business and published by The Minerva Group, Inc.. This book was released on 2002-04 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual presents guidance for the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of ice control and ice suppression measures. All Corps of Engineer projects subjected to freezing temperatures have ice problems such as: ice buildup on lock walls, hydropower intakes, and lock approaches; accumulation in navigation channels; ice passage over spillways that scours the downstream channel; and ice damage to shore structures and shoreline, etc. The Army Corps of Engineers experience in ice engineering is applicable to much civilian civil engineering, and ice control measures should be considered for both new and existing projects to improve their operation and safety in cold regions. This manual discusses ice formation processes, physical properties and potential solutions to associated problems.

Book Ice Structure Interaction

Download or read book Ice Structure Interaction written by Stephen J. Jones and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IUTAM-IAHR Symposium on Ice-Structure Interaction Professor Bez Tabarrok, Chairman of the Canadian National Committee (CNC) of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) invited Professor Derek Muggeridge to organize a symposium on ice structure interaction. Dr. Muggeridge readily agreed and prepared a proposal that was endorsed by the CNC and presented to the General Assembly Meeting of IUTAM for their consideration. This Assembly gave its approval and provided the local organizing committee with the names of individuals who were willing to serve on the Scientific Committee. Dr. Muggeridge became chairman of this committee and Dr. Ian Jordaan became co-chairman of this committee as well as chairman of the local organizing committee. The symposium followed the very successful previous meeting, chaired by Professor P. Tryde in Copenhagen, by ten years. Both symposia uti lized Springer-Verlag to publish their proceedings. The Faculty of En gineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland were particul{lXly pleased to host this prestigious symposium as it marked the twentieth anniversary of its Ocean Engineering Research Centre.
