Book Application and Multidisciplinary Aspects of Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Application and Multidisciplinary Aspects of Wireless Sensor Networks written by Liljana Gavrilovska and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a general trend in computing that computers are becoming ever smaller and ever more interconnected. Sensor networks – large networks of small, simple devices – are a logical extreme of this trend. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are attracting an increasing degree of research interest, with a growing number of industrial applications starting to emerge. Two of these applications, personal health monitoring and emergency/disaster recovery, are the focus of the European Commission project ProSense: Promote, Mobilize, Reinforce and Integrate Wireless Sensor Networking Research and Researchers. This hands-on introduction to WSN systems development presents a broad coverage of topics in the field, contributed by researchers involved in the ProSense project. An emphasis is placed on the practical knowledge required for the successful implementation of WSNs. Divided into four parts, the first part covers basic issues of sensors, software, and position-based routing protocols. Part two focuses on multidisciplinary issues, including sensor network integration, mobility aspects, georouting, medical applications, and vehicular sensor networks. The remaining two parts present case studies and further applications. Topics and features: presents a broad overview of WSN technology, including an introduction to sensor and sensing technologies; contains an extensive section on case studies, providing details of the development of a number of WSN applications; discusses frameworks for WSN systems integration, through which WSN technology will become fundamental to the Future Internet concept; investigates real-world applications of WSN systems in medical and vehicular sensor networks; with a Foreword by the Nobel Laurate Professor Martin Perl of Stanford University. Providing holistic coverage of WSN technology, this text/reference will enable graduate students of computer science, electrical engineering and telecommunications to master the specific domains of this emerging area. The book will also be a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners interested in entering the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X), currently the most promising wireless communication technology for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P), Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) and Vehicle-to-Cloud (V2C) communications. Because of its low latency and high reliability, C-V2X has become an essential enabling technology for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs) and autonomous driving. This book begins by introducing readers to the research background and status quo of global development. Then, after analyzing the performance requirements of various V2X applications, the system architecture and technical standards are presented. The two evolving stages of C-V2X, i.e., LTE-V2X and NR-V2X, are introduced in detail. In addition, related technologies such as mobile edge computing, network slicing and high-precision positioning, C-V2X security, C-V2X spectrum requirements and planning, and industrial development and applications are introduced. In closing, the book discusses future applications of and technical challenges for C-V2X. This book is the first monograph dedicated to C-V2X, offering experts, researchers and engineers from the areas of IT/CT, intelligent transportation, intelligent and connected vehicles (ICVs) an in-depth understanding of C-V2X technology and standards, while also outlining related interdisciplinary research. Book Inter vehicle Communication Systems Improvement

Download or read book Inter vehicle Communication Systems Improvement written by Najmeh Khosroshahi and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is to improve traffic efficiency and mobile safety. The Dedicated Short Range Communication system (DSRC) standard based inter-vehicle communications system plays a key role in ITS [1]. In October 1999, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allocated the frequency spectrum between 5.850 and 5.925 GHz for DSRC, which will enable vehicles to communicate with the road infrastructure, and allows for a large number of ITS applications. This provides an opportunity for automakers, government agencies, and related commercial entities to improve highway safety. However, inter-vehicle communications must operate effectively within transmit power limits and under received signal strength uctuations and Doppler spread. Conventionally, Convolutional coding was employed for forward error correction (FEC);however, in this book, we consider DSRC performance using Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes and Quasi-Cyclic (QC)-LDPC codes under different channel conditions. Results show that a QC-LDPC code provide an attractive trade off between performance and complexity, and should be considered as an alternative for DSRC systems.
