Book Rainfall runoff Modelling in Gauged and Ungauged Catchments

Download or read book Rainfall runoff Modelling in Gauged and Ungauged Catchments written by Thorsten Wagener and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important monograph is based on the results of a study on the identification of conceptual lumped rainfall-runoff models for gauged and ungauged catchments. The task of model identification remains difficult despite decades of research. A detailed problem analysis and an extensive review form the basis for the development of a Matlab? modelling toolkit consisting of two components: a Rainfall-Runoff Modelling Toolbox (RRMT) and a Monte Carlo Analysis Toolbox (MCAT). These are subsequently applied to study the tasks of model identification and evaluation. A novel dynamic identifiability approach has been developed for the gauged catchment case. The theory underlying the application of rainfall-runoff models for predictions in ungauged catchments is studied, problems are highlighted and promising ways to move forward are investigated. Modelling frameworks for both gauged and ungauged cases are developed. This book presents the first extensive treatment of rainfall-runoff model identification in gauged and ungauged catchments.

Book Integrating Multiscale Observations of U S Waters

Download or read book Integrating Multiscale Observations of U S Waters written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-05-16 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water is essential to life for humans and their food crops, and for ecosystems. Effective water management requires tracking the inflow, outflow, quantity and quality of ground-water and surface water, much like balancing a bank account. Currently, networks of ground-based instruments measure these in individual locations, while airborne and satellite sensors measure them over larger areas. Recent technological innovations offer unprecedented possibilities to integrate space, air, and land observations to advance water science and guide management decisions. This book concludes that in order to realize the potential of integrated data, agencies, universities, and the private sector must work together to develop new kinds of sensors, test them in field studies, and help users to apply this information to real problems.

Book Runoff and Soil Loss Under Simulated Rainfall

Download or read book Runoff and Soil Loss Under Simulated Rainfall written by Virendra Barai and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The knowledge of rainfall in terms of its intensity, duration, frequency, temporal distribution and droplet size distribution are important for appropriate estimation of runoff and erosion. That is required for hydrologic design of soil and water conservation structures. However the rainfall is the natural process and governed by the random processes. It takes several years to cover the entire range of above stated parameters and to study their effects on runoff and erosion. Therefore for quick understanding of this process and to accelerate the part of research on this aspect, it is necessary to observe the desired range of these parameters in the laboratory on controlled situation. Rainfall simulators they have the capability to vary the rainfall parameters in the desired range and therefore useful for such studies. Rainfall simulators offer the possibility of the advances in understanding the basic processes of runoff and erosion and the speed of the research is accelerated. One needs not to wait for the right kind of rains to come at right time for obtaining the results. The relationship developed include: water pressure, raindrop size and rainfall intensity with soil loss.
