Book Integral Convex Polyhedra and an Approach to Integralization

Download or read book Integral Convex Polyhedra and an Approach to Integralization written by Murray Edelberg and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many combinatorial optimization problems may be formulated as integer linear programming problems, that is, problems of the form: given a convex polyhedron P contained in the non-negative orthant of n-dimensional space, find an integer point in P which maximizes (or minimizes) a given linear objective function. Well known linear programming methods would suffice to solve such a problem if: (1) P is an integral convex polyhedron, or (2) P is transformed into the integral convex polyhedron that is the convex hull of the set of integer points in P, a process which is called integralization. This thesis provides some theoretical results concerning integral convex polyhedra and the process of integralization. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a convex polyhedron P to have the integral property are derived in terms of the system of linear inequalities defining P.A number-theoretic method for integralizing two-dimensional convex polyhedra is developed which makes use of a generalization of the division theorem for integers. The method is applicable to a restricted class of higher dimensional polyhedra as well. (Author).

Book Integer Programming and Related Areas

Download or read book Integer Programming and Related Areas written by C. Kastning and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integer Prograw~ing is one of the most fascinating and difficult areas in the field of Mathematical Optimization. Due to this fact notable research contributions to Integer Programming have been made in very different branches of mathematics and its applications. Since these publications are scattered over many journals, proceedings volumes, monographs, and working papers, a comprehensive bibliography of all these sources is a helpful tool even for specialists in this field. I initiated this compilation of literature in 1970 at the Institut fur ~konometrie und Operations Research, University of Bonn. Since then many collaborators have contributed to and worked on it. Among them Dipl.-Math. Claus Kastning has done the bulk of the work. With great perseverance and diligence he has gathered all the material and checked it with the original sources. The main aim was to incorporate rare and not easily accessible sources like Russian journals, preprints or unpublished papers. Without the invaluable and dedicated engagement of Claus Kastning the bibliography would never have reached this final version. For this reason he must be considered its responsible editor. As with any other collection this literature list has a subjective viewpoint and may be in some sense incomplete. We have however tried to be as complete as possible. The bibliography contains 4704 different publications by 6767 authors which were classified by 11839 descriptor entries.

Book Integration of Robots into CIM

Download or read book Integration of Robots into CIM written by R. Dillman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1992 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its inception in 1983, ESPRIT (the European Strategic Programme for Research and Development in Information Technology) has aimed at improving the competitiveness of European industry and providing it with the technology needed for the 1990s. Esprit Project 623, on which most of the work presented in this book is based, was one of the key projects in the ESPRIT area, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM). From its beginnings in 1985, it brought together a team of researchers from industry, research institutes and universities to explore and develop a critical stream of advanced manufacturing technology that would be timely and mature for industrial exploitation in a five year time frame. The synergy of cross border collaboration between technology users and vendors has led to results ranging from new and improved products to training courses given at universities. The subject of Esprit Project 623 was the integration of robots into manufacturing environments. Robots are a vital element in flexible automation and can contribute substantially to manufacturing efficiency. The project had two main themes, off-line programming and robot system planning. Off-line programming enlarges the application area of robots and opens up new possibilities in domains such as laser cutting, and other hazardous operations. Reported benefits obtained from off-line program ming include: - significant cost reductions because re-programming eliminates robot down-time; - faster production cycles, in some cases time-savings of up to 85% are reported; - the optimal engineering of products with improved quality.

Download or read book Polyhedra written by Anthony Pugh and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polyhedra: A Visual Approach provides an introduction to polyhedra for readers who are not necessarily mathematicians. The study of polyhedra - fascinating figures constructed of interrelated shapes - is usually regarded as a branch of geometry. In fact, most books on the subject have been written for readers with a mathematical background. However, Polyhedra: A Visual Approach describes these figures in simple, visual terms. This book focuses on regular and semiregular convex polyhedra first. Then these are used as bases for the development of several families of irregular figures, including geodesic polyhedra - the domes made famous by R. Buckminster Fuller. Polyhedra: A Visual Approach will interest readers from many different backgrounds. Mathematicians and scientists may discover that a visual approach opens up new possibilities. Artists, architects, designers, and engineers should find it a valuable exercise in three dimensions that increases their abilities in manipulating space. And general readers will be drawn to the uncomplicated description of polyhedra - fascinating figures that have inspired many a brilliant thinker. -- from back cover.

Book Crystallographic Instrumentation

Download or read book Crystallographic Instrumentation written by L. A. Aslanov and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Innovations in crystallographic instrumentation and the rapid development of methods of diffraction measurement have led to a vast improvement in our ability to determine crystal and molecular structure. This up-to-date resource will allow the reader to harness the potential of X-ray diffraction instruments. Different sources of X-radiation used in crystallography are introduced, including synchrotron radiation, as well as a systematic review of detectors for X-rays and basic instruments for single crystal and powder diffractometry. The principles of the diffraction experiment are discussed and related to their practical application with a comparative description of different scan procedures. Diffraction data collection and processing are also reviewed and methods for error correction are described. This book will provide a useful guide for researchers and students starting in this area of science, as well as skilled crystallographers.

Book Measure and Integration

Download or read book Measure and Integration written by S. Kesavan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-02-25 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with topics on the theory of measure and integration.
