Book Instrument Scanning and Controlling

Download or read book Instrument Scanning and Controlling written by A. O. Dick and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eye movement data and other parameters including instrument readings, aircraft state and position variables, and control maneuvers were recorded while pilots flew ILS simulations in a B 737. The experiment itself employed seven airline pilots, each of whom flew approximately 40 approach/landing sequences. The simulator was equipped with a night visual scene but the scene was fogged out down to approximately 60 meters (200 ft). The instrument scanning appeared to follow aircraft parameters not physical position of instruments. One important implication of the results is: pilots look for categories or packets of information. Control inputs were tabulated according to throttle, wheel position, column, and pitch trim changes. Three seconds of eye movements before and after the control input were then obtained. Analysis of the eye movement data for the controlling periods showed clear patterns. The results suggest a set of miniscan patterns which are used according to the specific details of the situation. A model is developed which integrates scanning and controlling. Differentiations are made between monitoring and controlling scans.

Book Understanding and Controlling the Microstructure of Complex Foods

Download or read book Understanding and Controlling the Microstructure of Complex Foods written by D. Julian McClements and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-08-30 with total page 793 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is widely accepted that the creation of novel foods or improvement of existing foods largely depends on a strong understanding and awareness of the intricate interrelationship between the nanoscopic, microscopic and macroscopic features of foods and their bulk physiochemical properties, sensory attributes and healthfulness. With its distinguished editor and array of international contributors, Understanding and controlling the microstructure of complex foods provides a review of current understanding of significant aspects of food structure and methods for its control.Part one focuses on the fundamental structural elements present in foods such as polysaccharides, proteins and fats and the forces which hold them together. Part two discusses novel analytical techniques which can provide information on the morphology and behaviour of food materials. Chapters cover atomic force microscopy, image analysis, scattering techniques and computer analysis. Chapters in part three examine how the principles of structural design can be employed to improve performance and functionality of foods. The final part of the book discusses how knowledge of structural and physicochemical properties can be implemented to improve properties of specific foods such as ice-cream, spreads, protein-based drinks, chocolate and bread dough.Understanding and controlling the microstructure of complex foods is an essential reference for industry professionals and scientists concerned with improving the performance of existing food products and inventing novel food products. - Reviews the current understanding of significant aspects of food structure and methods for its control - Focuses on the fundamental structural elements present in foods such as proteins and fats and the forces that hold them together - Discusses novel analytical techniques that provide information on the morphology and behaviour of food materials

Book Reeds Vol 10 Instrumentation and Control Systems

Download or read book Reeds Vol 10 Instrumentation and Control Systems written by Gordon Boyd and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a fully revised, new edition on the topic of instrumentation and control systems and their application to marine engineering for professional trainees studying Merchant Navy Marine Engineering Certificates of Competency (CoC) as well as Electrical/Marine Engineering undergraduate students. Providing generic technical and practical descriptions of the operation of instrumentation and control devices and systems, this volume also contains mathematic analysis where appropriate. Addressing this subject area, the domain of Instrumentation Engineers/Technicians as well as Control Engineers, and covering established processes and protocols and extensive developing technology, this textbook is written with the marine engineer in mind, particularly those studying Engineering Knowledge. The content ranges from simple measurement devices, through signal conditioning and digitisation to highly sophisticated automated control and instrumentation systems. It also includes a brand new section on electrical equipment in hazardous areas detailing hazards, gas groups, temperature classifications and types of protection including increased and intrinsic safety and encapsulation, and up-to-date material on the new generation of Liquified Natural Gas carriers, SMART sensors and protocols, as well as computer based systems.
