One speaks of dynamic processes especially in those cases where the system in question is far from a steady state. Irrespective of whether one deals with processes in the reaction volume or with the co-effects of components in heterogeneous systems, the central aim is always the dynamic modelling of the total system as a base for its comprehension and manipulation. The application possibilities of dynamic system analysis today cover the whole range from the study of elementary processes over the optimization of technical processes to the safety analysis of plants.

Diffusion theories and experimental diffusion coefficients for several systems, as well as the electrical properties of the highly defective ionic and mixed oxide conductor, are specifically tackled in these chapters. The concluding chapters present the pertinent results obtained in nonstoichiometric oxide structural studies using high-resolution electron microscopy and X-ray and neutron diffraction.
