This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extract: This report analyzes the processes that might result in more or less instability of yields for individual crops; for the same crop produced in different regions and in different seasons in the same region; for foodgrains generally in different regions of the country; or for farms of different sizes. Because the new crop technology has made an important contribution to the growth of yields per hectare, and because the new technology itself has made the greatest headway in irrigated areas, the obvious question is: has seed-fertilizer technology increased yield variability, and, if so, has this added variability been confined only to unirrigated areas?

Book Managing Food Security In Unregulated Markets

Download or read book Managing Food Security In Unregulated Markets written by Robert D. Reinsel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major grain producing nations are moving toward the reduction of domestic and export subsidies to agriculture. The grain importing nations are reducing import barriers. As world markets evolve, grain will tend to be produced in areas that have a comparative advantage in grain production. Over time, production will shift to least-cost areas. Moving toward market orientation during the 1980's, the United States sharply modified its grain policy so that nonrecourse loans are no longer used as price enhancement devices. The loan rates are established at a percentage below the moving average price and now provide a safety net for prices when aggregate output is much larger than normal in relation to demand. This change tends to remove the United States from its long-term role as residual supplier to the world markets. U.S. grains are more likely to be priced competitively, and stocks are unlikely to accumulate in government storage.

Download or read book Indian Agriculture written by Trinadh Nookathoti and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Population explosions have always pushed India into many deep-rooted socio-economic bottlenecks. India is home to one third of the globe’s poverty-ridden and hunger-prone population, despite the undoubted availability of and access to food grains. This study explores the causes of and solutions to the prevalence of hunger and malnutrition at the grassroots level. Although India’s spending on protecting its boundaries has increased massively, there does not seem to have been as much emphasis on protecting its citizens. There can be no doubt that food security involves the simultaneous growth in demand and supply of food grains. As such, the book analyses the supply-side background behind the accomplishment of food security. It explores the nature, prospects and challenges ahead for Indian agriculture. Food grain production can be enhanced on a par with increasing demand only when hurdles confronting agriculture are addressed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maharashtra is an important state of India so far as its contribution to the agriculture development of the country is concerned. During the last four decades, the agricultural sector of Maharashtra has undergone lots of changes. Though agricultural performance improved during the last forty years, its progress was not sustained and showed wide fluctuations. In fact, the important characteristics of Maharashtra agriculture are the instability in crop production and significant regional variations in the performance of agriculture in the state. The recent farmer suicides in Vidarbha and Marathawada have once again highlighted regional disparity in Maharashtra. The agrarian crisis in Vidarbha has spun almost out of control. There are a number of factors which limit the growth of agriculture over the years in the state. It is, therefore, necessary to look into the factors affecting agricultural growth.
