Book Inspiration with a Chuckle

Download or read book Inspiration with a Chuckle written by James W. Haworth and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-12-17 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jim Haworth graciously donated the first 4 books to me that hed written I was delightfully thrilled. Prior to that Id already been receiving almost daily e-mails with his ongoing wacky/witty tidbits of information. On the very rare occasional times when I didnt receive one Id become a bit depressed because I had begun to look forward to getting them nearly everyday of the week. He told me that many would just pop into his head at all times during the day and night so I found this to be intriguing. The more that these e-mails came the more they began to grow more popular with me. So many of them always seemed to ring home true representations of many types of situations that we all have happening in our lives on a normal daily basis. Just reading them on an almost daily basis actually added a sort of unexplainable lift to my usual normal routine daily life. It was good when he recognized that by placing the printed material into varying other places upon the pages as well as adding black and white pictures interspersed within the chapter titles it added much more interest to the written material placement positions within the chapter titles. As I would turn each page Id find my self trying to guess where the printed material will be placed and wondering if a black and white picture would be appearing to reinforce the particular subject matter being given? I hope with his 5th book that this kind of placement of the material on the pages as well as the pictures will continue. I feel that by having made those 2 big adjustments it has added an additional kind of joy and harmony to what he is trying to say to his readers. I feel that so many of his wacky/witty sayings will help others get through whatever kinds of problems they might be facing because they are so down to earth true sayings. All age groups will find inspiration in these sayings and this does include children as well as teenagers because they are just appealing in nature. The reader is able to easily grasp the concepts as theyre written in short statements of common sense everyday language that can be rapidly read from page to page.

Download or read book Dr Chuckle s Original Cinema written by Paul Frishkoff and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-15 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Films have been an integral part of my life. My first childhood trip to a theater was to see "Lassie Come Home", during which - I've been told-I yelled out "Let that dog go, you mean men!" I've watched the Oscars sporadically; not so much lately. My wife Pat, however, is an ardent watcher and this book is inspired by her. Moreover, she has been the main auditory guinea pig for the puns in this and my prior two books. The format is a selected list of Best Film nominees over the years with two puns accompanying each, chosen to match the film's title and-occasionally-its content. About originality: I have very good recall; as far as I know, each pun in this book (and my other two pun books) is "original" in the sense that I haven't heard or read any of them before. (The two exceptions are prominently asterisked.) However, given a couple of billion English speakers in the world, it is debatable that no one, nowhere, could have had the same thought as I did.About delectability: puns, in my experience, are most easily digested if read sparsely, no more than two a day. Gluttons beware! If you don't "get" a pun, try saying it out loud. (You can practice on some of the attributions at the end of this preface.)

Book Inspired to Serve

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'Never underestimate the good you can do,' Rabbi Steve Foster tells his Denver congregation in Mark H. Massé's Inspired to Serve, and it is the book's message, as well." -- Melissa Fay Greene, author of Praying for Sheetrock,The Temple Bombing, and Last Man Out "Anyone who wants to know more about how diverse religious organizations perform civic good works should read this excellent account." -- John J. DiIulio, Jr., University of Pennsylvania "Powerful, real-life stories of people of faith serving and empowering the poor." -- Ronald J. Sider, President, Evangelicals for Social Action Curious about what had happened to the social activism of the 1960s, and in response to the recent interest in "faith-based initiatives," Mark H. Massé set out to identify people who had continued their social activism in the context of a religious commitment to work in aid of the poor and the disenfranchised. The profiled activists include clergy, lay workers, and others, representing a mix of faiths, social issues, and geographic regions. They include a Jesuit priest working in a poor neighborhood in Portland, a Muslim "messenger of good news" to an Islamic community in Texas, an Irish American nun working with migrants and others in central Florida, a black Episcopalian minister on Chicago's Southside, and a "Dharma activist" in California. What sets these and other activists apart is the depth and breadth of their service, vision, and sacrifice. Many risk their reputations and careers, their health, even their lives in pursuit of social change. Massé discovers that these individuals share an unbending belief in the power, potential, and rewards of service to others, as they try to balance their secular and spiritual lives in the face of challenging work.
