Download or read book Inspection Evaluation and Repair of Hydraulic Steel Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 2001-12-01 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual describes the inspection, evaluation, and repair of hydraulic steel structures, including preinspection identification of critical locations (such as fracture critical members and various connections) that require close examination. Nondestructive testing techniques that may be used during periodic inspections or detailed structural inspections are discussed. Guidance is provided on material testing to determine the chemistry, strength, ductility, hardness, and toughness of the base and weld metal. Analyses methods that can be used to determine structure safety, safe inspection intervals, and expected remaining life of the structure with given operational demands are presented. Finally, considerations for various types of repair are discussed.

This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil engineers must assure that buildings have long and durable lives, and therefore structural assessment and repair are routinely required and must be performed with the utmost accuracy and professionalism. Assessment, Evaluation, and Repair of Concrete, Steel, and Offshore Structures presents the typical causes of structural failure and their mechanisms, discusses the most up-to-date methods for evaluation and structural assessment, and explains the best project management strategies from the feasibility stage through operations and maintenance. Numerous types of structures are examined and are further illustrated by relevant case studies. Features: Examines the probability of several types of structural failure and includes reliability analysis. Presents best practices for predicting the structural lifetime for both onshore and offshore structures and reviews the most advanced methods for repair. Includes numerous practical case studies of structural failure and offers mitigation strategies depending of type of structure.

Book Repair Evaluation Maintenance and Rehabilitation Research Program User s Manual Inspection and Rating of Steel Sheet Pile Structures

Download or read book Repair Evaluation Maintenance and Rehabilitation Research Program User s Manual Inspection and Rating of Steel Sheet Pile Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For much of its early history the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was heavily involved in the design and construction of new facilities, but now the mission of the Corps is shifting from construction to the maintenance of existing facilities. The Corps has addressed its changing role by instituting a Repair, Evaluation, Maintenance, and Rehabilitation (REMR) program. As a part of this program, a project team at Iowa State University has undertaken a research effort that focuses on the evaluation and repair of the steel sheet pile structures within the Corps' civilian projects. These structures do not require a great deal of maintenance but failure of a steel sheet pile wall can significantly affect operations--especially as part of a lock and dam facility. In the following document, a general description of the current inspection and rating system is given. This includes the definition of a condition index and a brief description of sheet pile distresses. A detailed description of the inspection process follows. Once the inspection data have been gathered, they are entered onto a computer disk through a personal computer (PC) program. The description provides sufficient detail for a trial application of the inspection process. Keywords: Structural engineering; Repairs; Inspection. (KT).

Book Assessment Evaluation and Repair of Concrete Steel and Offshore Structures

Download or read book Assessment Evaluation and Repair of Concrete Steel and Offshore Structures written by Mohamed Abdallah El-Reedy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-27 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to age and increased loading on buildings, structural assessment and repair is routinely required with accuracy and professionalism. Our target is to have a building durable along its life time. The typical causes of structural failure and their mechanisms will be presented in this book for all types of structure, and further addressed by numerous case studies and engineering calculations. The up-to-date methods for evaluation and assessment the existing structure will be discussed. It will also examine different codes related to structural assessment and will present project management strategies from the feasibility stage through operations and maintenance.

He walks readers through all phases of a civil project, from feasibility assessment to construction to operations, explaining how to evaluate tasks and challenges at each phase using a holistic approach. Unique coverage of ethics, legal issues, and management is also included.

Book Design of Hydraulic Steel Structures

Download or read book Design of Hydraulic Steel Structures written by United States Army Corps of Engineers and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual prescribes guidance for designing hydraulic steel structures (HSS) by load and resistance factor design (LRFD) and guidance for fracture control. Allowable stress design (ASD) guidance is provided as an alternative design procedure or for those structure types where LRFD criteria have yet to be developed. Typical HSS are lock gates, tainter gates, tainter valves, bulkheads and stoplogs, vertical lift gates, components of hydroelectric and pumping plants, and miscellaneous structures such as lock wall accessories, local flood protection gates, and outlet works gates. HSS may be subject to submergence, wave action, hydraulic hammer, cavitation, impact, corrosion, and severe climatic conditions.
