After her parent's tragic death, she's whisked away from her home in Ireland when an unknown uncle surfaces as her new guardian. Dropped smack-dab into the All-American dream, Faye should feel grateful. Except living with her wealthy uncle, his fashion-empire-owning wife, and their seven screwed-up sons is quickly turning into a nightmare-especially when certain inappropriate feelings arise. Kyler Kennedy makes her head hurt and her heart race, but he's her cousin. He's off limits. And he's not exactly welcoming-Kyler is ignorant, moody, and downright cruel at times-but Faye sees behind the mask he wears, recognizing a kindred spirit. Kyler has sworn off girls, yet Faye gets under his skin. The more he pushes her away, the more he's drawn to her, but acting on those feelings risks a crap-ton of prejudice, and any whiff of scandal could damage the precious Kennedy brand. Concealing their feelings seems like the only choice. But when everyone has something to hide, a secret is a very dangerous thing. Book The Spirituality of Following Jesus in John s Gospel

Download or read book The Spirituality of Following Jesus in John s Gospel written by Sean Seongik Kim and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on "following Jesus" has mostly been done in terms of what Jesus' followers ought to do. In this unprecedented study, Kim presents "following Jesus" in John's Gospel through the perspective of what Jesus does for his followers. "Following Jesus" is a journey towards the place where Jesus leads his followers, that is, to a relationship with the Father. It is ultimately participating in the Son's communion with the Father. Jesus, who was in the bosom of the Father, descended from him and ascends to him, taking his followers with him, so that they may be with him where he is with the Father in glory and love. Kim develops this thesis by examining the term akolouthein ("to follow") and correlated motifs in John's Gospel.

Amid sequins and longing, celebrities and aspirants flocked to the heart of chic, and Paris became a hothouse of revelry, intrigue, and searing ambition. At the center of it all were fashion's most beloved luminaries - Yves Saint Laurent, the reclusive enfant terrible, and Karl Lagerfeld, the flamboyant freelancer with a talent for reinvention - and they divided Paris into two fabulous halves. Their enduring rivalry is chronicled in this dazzling exposè of an era: of social ambitions, shared obsessions, and the mesmerizing quest for beauty. "Deliciously dramatic... It moves stylishly forward, with frequent over-the-shoulder glances at some very dishy background." -Boston Globe

Book Gleanings

Download or read book Gleanings written by and published by Debaditya Bhattacharya. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How much of our classroom teaching in a government university can any longer afford to be critical of the world outside, the social lives we live and the social relations we reproduce on a daily basis? Isn’t that the meaning of freedom within a university – the right to freely criticise things that we do or we don’t, and to freely imagine ways of doing things better? Isn’t that the meaning of ‘academic freedom’? But of course, in our times, where governments (and ruling parties) decide what texts are teachable or what research is publishable or what opinions are permissible, is there any point left in doing ‘literary studies’ anymore? Given that the right to critique has now to be bargained for, is the teaching and studying of literature up for sale? Our unfinished conversation had closed off, with me saying: “Criticality is so rare that it has become the mark of elitism."

Book Jealousy Femininity and Desire

Download or read book Jealousy Femininity and Desire written by Dana Tor-Zilberstein and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-23 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis, this book intervenes into debates concerning the relation between jealousy and envy on the one hand, and sexual difference on the other. The author presents an original distinction between what is termed “feminine” and “phallic” forms of jealousy while mapping and theorizing other types of jealousy that she finds in the writings of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. The discussion performs literary-critical readings of texts by Olivia Shakespear and Marguerite Duras as a means of shedding light on the topic and the distinction. Further, it discusses the challenge posed by jealousy’s particular mode of jouissance and its possible vicissitudes. Though the experience of jealousy can be ravaging, the author claims, it also provides the subject an opportunity to reorient its relation to jouissance and thereby experience significant psychical change. In doing so, it provides a new outlook on jealousy as being connected to both femininity and desire, unveiling its complex character, features, and vitality within a Lacanian psychoanalytic framework. It will appeal in particular to those with an interest in psychoanalysis, literary theory and critical theory.
