Book Effects of Inoculation with Rhizobium and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Snap Beans Soybeans and Lima Beans

Download or read book Effects of Inoculation with Rhizobium and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Snap Beans Soybeans and Lima Beans written by Mei-hwa Wang Ma and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The responses of 'Oregon 1604' snap beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), 'Early Thorogreen' lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.), and 'Takii's Extra Early' soybeans (Glycine max L.) to two methods of inoculation with rhizobium (seedcoating and furrow treatments) and rates of nitrogen fertilizer were studied in field experiments. Nitrogen rates ranged from 0 to 84 kg/ha. Nodulation was increased significantly by inoculation but decreased by nitrogen fertilization in three crops. Yield of snap beans was increased significantly from increasing nitrogen fertilizer but was not affected by inoculation. Neither nitrogen fertilizer nor inoculation influenced soybean yield. For soybeans and lima beans, furrow inoculation resulted in significantly higher nodulation than the seedcoating treatment. Nodulation of snap beans and soybeans was significantly decreased by nitrogen fertilizer in inoculated plots but not in check plots. Plant weight of lima beans was significantly increased by nitrogen fertilizer only when seedcoating inoculation was used. Plant stands of snap beans were increased 118% by captan seed treatment but nodulation was significantly reduced.

Book Effects of Inoculation Nitrogen And Phosphorous on Irrigated Soybeans

Download or read book Effects of Inoculation Nitrogen And Phosphorous on Irrigated Soybeans written by Khairalseed Abdalmohsin and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Syabean is one of the fast growing item in the world trade. It contains 41% protein and 21% oil. Research on soyabean in Sudan began in the early 70, s with the intoduction of various varietes from U.S.A.Rhizobium japonicum was not deteced in Sudan soils. Inoculant was introduced from U.S.A. The objectives of this reseach are1/Too investigate the influence of inoculation on nodulation, nitrogen fixation of the soyabean plant and protein content of soyabean seed.2/To examine the effect of N and P fertilization on nodulation, N-fixation and soyabean yield. The results showed that1/The intoduced peat inoculant resluted in good nodulation and N-fixato 2/Significantly higher shoot dry matter, total N-uptake, 100 seed weight, seed yield and total crued protein were obtained from seed inoculation in comparison with uninoculated one

Book Nitrogen Fixation in Tropical Cropping Systems

Download or read book Nitrogen Fixation in Tropical Cropping Systems written by K. E. Giller and published by CABI. This book was released on 2001 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrogen fixation by leguminous plants is especially important when farmers are trying to minimise fertilizer use for cost or environmental reasons. This second edition of the highly successful book, first published in 1991, contains thoroughly updated and revised material on the theory and practice of nitrogen fixation in tropical cropping systems.

Download or read book World crops Cool season food legumes written by R.J. Summerfield and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The genesis of the International Food Legume Research Conference (IFLRC) can be traced back to 1983 - and so this Volume, the Proceedings of that Conference, has had a gestation period of close to five years. Professor Norman Simmonds, the perennial Book Review Editor of Experimental Agriculture, has expressed the opinion (vol. 22, p. 201, 1986) that "Many symposial volumes are just plain awful!" Elsewhere (Nature vol. 312, pp. 201-2, 1984), Anthony Watkinson - then a Commissioning Editor at Oxford University Press has described several reasons which have led him to believe that "Conference proceedings - symposia - are generally disliked . . . . To put it mildly, this type of publication has a bad name". The problems, from an author's perspective, of contributing to any many-authored publication are aired in an exchange of correspondence in Biologist (vol. 30, pp. 123 and 180, 1983; and vol. 31, pp. 3 and 69,1984). And from the editor's viewpoint, D. J. Weatherall - then Nuffield Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford - has described (Nature vol. 317, p.

Book Enhancement of Biological Nitrogen Fixation of Common Bean in Latin America

Download or read book Enhancement of Biological Nitrogen Fixation of Common Bean in Latin America written by F.A. Bliss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is the most important pulse crop in Latin America, as well as in large parts of Asia and Africa. It is particularly important due to its ability, in symbiosis with Rhizobium bacteria, to fix atmospheric nitrogen and due to its high nutrient value. Incorporating contributions from plant breeders, microbiologists, plant physiologists and soil scientists, this volume reports the results of an FAO/IAEA Coordinated Research Programme (1985--1991), whose main objective was to enhance yield and biological nitrogen fixation in common bean by reducing its reliance on soil and fertilizer nitrogen. The volume will be invaluable to scientists working on biological nitrogen fixation and legume production.
