Download or read book SPARK written by John Winsor and published by Kaplan Publishing. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In SPARK: Be More Innovative Through Co-Creation, author John Winsor wants to inspire readers to think about innovation in new ways. At the foundation of innovation is the ability to understand a community and its individual members, well enough to anticipate what products and services might be needed in the future. In the simplest form, this means getting out of the office and exploring the customer’s world. In the introduction, Winsor reveals how SPARK can help readers actively co-create new innovation solutions: ""SPARK is structured in four sections: Section One - The Team; Section Two - The Customer; Section Three - The Company; and Section Four - The Culture. Each of these sections represents a different part of the innovation ecosystem. Successful innovation happens where these four parts of the ecosystem interact and overlap in unique ways. ""Each chapter opens with an interview, called Inspiration, which offers a unique perspective on a specific innovation issue. The second segment in each chapter, called Tools, offers ideas on how to put into action some of the ideas that are discussed in the opening interview. ""The third segment, called Interaction, offers a place for readers to interact within the pages of the book, joining in the co-creative process. Each Interaction segment provides a provocative exercise or question and space to draw or write down your thoughts. There is also an online component to this section, giving people the opportunity to form a community around the ideas presented in SPARK and to actively co-create new innovation solutions. ""Lastly, the fourth segment of each chapter, called Resources, can act as a road map for further exploration on the subjects discussed in the chapter. ""One of SPARK’s primary goals is to be a resource. My hope is that it can become an innovation journal for you, one that you will co-create with the wonderful people who have participated in this book. So, make SPARK yours. Write in it. Draw in it. Tape stuff to it. Rip it up! But, most of all, have fun with it! Become a part of the SPARK community."" Highlights In the spirit of co-creation, Winsor gathered several perspectives on innovation from innovative thinkers. Marketing, sales, and business professionals of all kinds will be inspired by: •Matt Jacobson, Quiksilver •Marsha Skidmore, Herman Miller •Christine Halvorson, Stonyfield Farms •Jake McKee, Lego •Mark Parker, Nike •Rob Bon Durant, Patagonia • Michael Perman, Levi Strauss & Co. • Jeff Garwood, Miller Brewing

Download or read book 63 Innovation Nuggets written by George Barbee and published by . This book was released on 2015-10-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 63 Innovation Nuggets (for aspiring innovators) are derived from the real life, practical experiences of George E. L. Barbee's corporate world experience--45 years, across 40 countries. He's has successful entrepreneurial experiences (founded 3 companies) and has lead innovation with Fortune 100 companies like Gillette, General Electric, PepsiCo, IBM, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Barbee broadens the concept of innovation from the historically narrow view around new products emanating just from R&D. Instead, today's innovation emanates from a diverse array of individuals across a wide range of functional areas including finance, technology, manufacturing, marketing, engineering, and sales. His innovative global leadership is wide ranging across consumer products, entrepreneurial financial services, and global professional services. Barbee's experience convinces him that most of us have an innovative spark that can be ignited. Being innovative is personally rewarding and can add great value to any organization. Innovation is all around us, and using these nuggets can help improve observation skills, transfer skills, and many others. The analogy to panning for gold nuggets is intriguing. Pioneering prospectors would sort through and collect individual pieces. At first each individual nugget may appear to have minimal value, but the total collection takes on the greatest wealth.

Book The Creative Spark

Download or read book The Creative Spark written by Agustín Fuentes and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A bold new synthesis of paleontology, archaeology, genetics, and anthropology that overturns misconceptions about race, war and peace, and human nature itself, answering an age-old question: What made humans so exceptional among all the species on Earth? Creativity. It is the secret of what makes humans special, hiding in plain sight. Agustín Fuentes argues that your child's finger painting comes essentially from the same place as creativity in hunting and gathering millions of years ago, and throughout history in making war and peace, in intimate relationships, in shaping the planet, in our communities, and in all of art, religion, and even science. It requires imagination and collaboration. Every poet has her muse; every engineer, an architect; every politician, a constituency. The manner of the collaborations varies widely, but successful collaboration is inseparable from imagination, and it brought us everything from knives and hot meals to iPhones and interstellar spacecraft. Weaving fascinating stories of our ancient ancestors' creativity, Fuentes finds the patterns that match modern behavior in humans and animals. This key quality has propelled the evolutionary development of our bodies, minds, and cultures, both for good and for bad. It's not the drive to reproduce; nor competition for mates, or resources, or power; nor our propensity for caring for one another that have separated us out from all other creatures. As Fuentes concludes, to make something lasting and useful today you need to understand the nature of your collaboration with others, what imagination can and can't accomplish, and, finally, just how completely our creativity is responsible for the world we live in. Agustín Fuentes's resounding multimillion-year perspective will inspire readers—and spark all kinds of creativity.

Book The Dynamics of Regional Innovation

Download or read book The Dynamics of Regional Innovation written by Yveline Lecler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All over the world, open innovation is emerging and requires much more interactions between different actors with different organizational cultures: large firms and SMEs (i.e. industry), universities and research institutions (i.e. academia), as well as national and regional authorities for building the legal or incentive framework of innovation (i.e government). Certainly, flows of knowledge between these three spheres, which are also known as the triple helix, have always existed; but what appears to be new in an open innovation environment is the overlapping of their missions. In many areas such multi-actor interactions with overlapping roles did not emerge spontaneously, as was the case with the United States. Based on robust cases studied by researchers and practical experiences of personnel involved in innovation at public or private institutions, this book successively discusses the policy framework in Europe and Japan, the new role for universities due to intellectual property reform or technology transfer promotion, the new challenges for firms in terms of licensing, patents, corporate venturing, including entrepreneurship, incubation, venture capital or cross-industry knowledge sharing. All issues addressed in this book are clearly those toward regional innovation policies and practices that are open in nature. It contains descriptions and analysis of the various approaches taken by industrial, governmental, and academic players in various regions of Japan (Tohoku, Tokyo) and Europe (France, Belgium). The mix of theoretical and empirical material collected in this book was first presented at an international symposium in Tokyo. The dynamics of regional innovation is an on-going issue, and we are still standing at the threshold of this field of research. It is exactly why such a book is needed now.
