Book Innovar en educaci n S pero c mo

Download or read book Innovar en educaci n S pero c mo written by André Tricot and published by Narcea Ediciones. This book was released on 2019-07-15 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this 1994 classic work on student retention, Vincent Tinto synthesizes far-ranging research on student attrition and on actions institutions can and should take to reduce it. The key to effective retention, Tinto demonstrates, is in a strong commitment to quality education and the building of a strong sense of inclusive educational and social community on campus. He applies his theory of student departure to the experiences of minority, adult, and graduate students, and to the situation facing commuting institutions and two-year colleges. Especially critical to Tinto’s model is the central importance of the classroom experience and the role of multiple college communities.

Book University and School Collaborations During a Pandemic

Download or read book University and School Collaborations During a Pandemic written by Fernando M. Reimers and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on twenty case studies of universities worldwide, and on a survey administered to leaders in 101 universities, this open access book shows that, amidst the significant challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, universities found ways to engage with schools to support them in sustaining educational opportunity. In doing so, they generated considerable innovation, which reinforced the integration of the research and outreach functions of the university. The evidence suggests that universities are indeed open systems, in interaction with their environment, able to discover changes that can influence them and to change in response to those changes. They are also able, in the success of their efforts to mitigate the educational impact of the pandemic, to create better futures, as the result of the innovations they can generate. This challenges the view of universities as "ivory towers" being isolated from the surrounding environment and detached from local problems. As they reached out to schools, universities not only generated clear and valuable innovations to sustain educational opportunity and to improve it, this process also contributed to transform internal university processes in ways that enhanced their own ability to deliver on the third mission of outreach

Book Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Systems

Download or read book Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Systems written by Emilio Corchado and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-09-30 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Workshop on Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Systems (HAIS 2008) presented the most recent developments in the dynamically expanding realm of symbolic and sub-symbolic techniques aimed at the construction of highly robust and reliable problem-solving techniques. Hybrid intelligent systems have become incre- ingly popular given their capabilities to handle a broad spectrum of real-world c- plex problems which come with inherent imprecision, uncertainty and vagueness, high-dimensionality, and non stationarity. These systems provide us with the oppor- nity to exploit existing domain knowledge as well as raw data to come up with prom- ing solutions in an effective manner. Being truly multidisciplinary, the series of HAIS workshops offers a unique research forum to present and discuss the latest theoretical advances and real-world applications in this exciting research field. This volume of Lecture Notes on Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) includes accepted papers presented at HAIS 2008 held in University of Burgos, Burgos, Spain, Sept- ber 2008 The global purpose of HAIS conferences has been to form a broad and interdis- plinary forum for hybrid artificial intelligence systems and associated learning pa- digms, which are playing increasingly important roles in a large number of application areas. Since its first edition in Brazil in 2006, HAIS has become an important forum for researchers working on fundamental and theoretical aspects of hybrid artificial intel- gence systems based on the use of agents and multiagent systems, bioinformatics and bio-inspired models, fuzzy systems, artificial vision, artificial neural networks, opti- zation models and alike.

Book Engaging People in Sustainability

Download or read book Engaging People in Sustainability written by Daniella Tilbury and published by IUCN. This book was released on 2004 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is based on the exchange of professional experiences which featured in an IUCN CEC workshop in August 2002. Practitioners from around the world shared their models of good practice and explored the challenges involved in engaging people in sustainability. The difficulties facing practitioners vary between country and context but some challenges are universal: A lack of clarity in communicating what is meant by sustainable development; An ambition to educate everyone to bring about a global citizenship; Social, organisational or institutional factors constrain change to sustainable development, yet there is an emphasis on formal education, and community educators do not receive the same support; A lack of balance in addressing the integration of environmental, social and economic dimensions leading to an interpretation that ESD is mainly about environment and conservation issues; New learning (rather than teaching) approaches are called for to promote more debate in society. Yet, few are trained or experienced in these new approaches. Practitioners need support to explore new ways of promoting learning. [Foreword, ed].

Book Blended Synchronous Learning

Download or read book Blended Synchronous Learning written by Matt G Bower and published by . This book was released on 2014-11-07 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blended synchronous learning - where remote students participate in face-to-face classes by means of rich-media synchronous technologies such as video conferencing, web conferencing and virtual worlds - is an emerging phenomenon in education. More and more teachers are attempting to teach in this challenging mode, but without any systematic research evidence to help guide their blended synchronous learning practices. The Blended Synchronous Learning Handbook is a definitive resource that addresses this issue. It includes a Blended Synchronous Learning Design Framework that offers pedagogical, technological and logistical recommendations for teachers attempting to design and implement blended synchronous learning lessons. It also includes a Rich-Media Synchronous Technology Capabilities Framework to support the selection of technologies for different types of learning activities, as well as a review of relevant literature, a summary of the Blended Synchronous Learning Scoping Study, detailed reports of seven blended synchronous learning case studies, and an in-depth cross case analysis to underpin the recommendations that are drawn.
