Book Conceptual Design and Analysis of an Infrared Horizon Sensor with Compensation for Atmospheric Variability

Download or read book Conceptual Design and Analysis of an Infrared Horizon Sensor with Compensation for Atmospheric Variability written by Antony Jalink and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A horizon detection logic, based on a ratio-of-integrated-radiance concept, which detects the earth's horizon at a relatively stable height under all geographic and meteorological conditions was evaluated by computer simulation on a body of synthesized radiance profiles. An error-sensitivity analysis of the concept was performed, and optimum design parameter values for a sensor were determined. A conceptual design for an improved 15 micron sensor based on this analysis is discussed.

Book Infrared Horizon Detection

Download or read book Infrared Horizon Detection written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sea/sky interface in the 3 to 5 micron and 8 to 12 micron regions is examined in this report. The efficacy of two algorithms for delineating the optical horizon is studied using infrared data taken with the Infrared Analysis Measurement and Modeling Program (IRAMMP) sensor at Port Hueneme, California, and Marathon Florida. Several signal processing methods are described along with the performance results of computer simulations exercising the various algorithms against the IRAMMP data. Meteorological data collected at the fields sites is used to aid in explaining the varying degrees of contrast exhibited by the database.

Book Measurement of the Infrared Horizon of the Earth

Download or read book Measurement of the Infrared Horizon of the Earth written by R. G. Walker and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiance measurements of the Earth's horizon in three infrared spectral regions were made during two Aerobee rocket flights at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Preliminary results indicate equivalent blackbody radiation temperatures in the CO2 band (14.0 - 15.6 microns) varied from 231K to 239K; in the atmospheric window region (10.2 - 11.8 microns) from 205K to 287K; and in the rotational water vapor band (19.5 - 31.8 microns) from 206K to 239K. Numerous dropouts due to clouds are apparent in the atmospheric window and water vapor bands, while no such effect is evident in the CO2 band. The infrared radiometer, stellar aspect sensor and vehicle attitude control system are described, and actual traces of the horizon profiles and outputs from the stellar aspect system are included. (Author).

Book Detection Range Performance Horizon Infrared Surveillance Sensor HISS Phase 2

Download or read book Detection Range Performance Horizon Infrared Surveillance Sensor HISS Phase 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Horizon Infrared Surveillance Sensor (HISS) Phase 2 system was involved in field testing at Wallops Island, Virginia from November 1993 through April 1994. This report discusses the HISS project and presents results from the analysis of system detection range performance. The HISS Phase 2 detection range performance has been used to demonstrate IR contributions to an integrated sensor system and to verify detection range predictions and improve the fidelity of current detection range performance models.

Book Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control

Download or read book Spacecraft Attitude Determination and Control written by James R. Wertz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1978-12-31 with total page 886 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger D. Werking Head, Attitude Determination and Control Section National Aeronautics and Space Administration/ Goddard Space Flight Center Extensiye work has been done for many years in the areas of attitude determination, attitude prediction, and attitude control. During this time, it has been difficult to obtain reference material that provided a comprehensive overview of attitude support activities. This lack of reference material has made it difficult for those not intimately involved in attitude functions to become acquainted with the ideas and activities which are essential to understanding the various aspects of spacecraft attitude support. As a result, I felt the need for a document which could be used by a variety of persons to obtain an understanding of the work which has been done in support of spacecraft attitude objectives. It is believed that this book, prepared by the Computer Sciences Corporation under the able direction of Dr. James Wertz, provides this type of reference. This book can serve as a reference for individuals involved in mission planning, attitude determination, and attitude dynamics; an introductory textbook for stu dents and professionals starting in this field; an information source for experimen ters or others involved in spacecraft-related work who need information on spacecraft orientation and how it is determined, but who have neither the time nor the resources to pursue the varied literature on this subject; and a tool for encouraging those who could expand this discipline to do so, because much remains to be done to satisfy future needs.
