Book Magnetic Order and Coupling Phenomena

Download or read book Magnetic Order and Coupling Phenomena written by Christian Schubert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents recent developments in magnetic coupling phenomena of ferrimagnetic rare-earth transition-metal Tb-Fe alloys and coupled systems consisting of ferri-/ferromagnetic heterostructures. Taking advantage of the tunability of the exchange coupling between ferrimagnetic and ferromagnetic layers by means of stoichiometry of the Tb-Fe layer, the variable number of repetitions in the Co/Pt multilayer as well as the thickness of an interlayer spacer, it is demonstrated that large perpendicular unidirectional anisotropy can be induced at room temperature. This robust perpendicular exchange bias at room temperature opens up a path towards applications in spintronics.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last two decades low-dimensional (low-d) physics has matured into a major branch of science. Quite generally we may define a system with restricted dimensionality d as an object that is infinite only in one or two spatial directions (d = 1 and 2). Such a definition comprises isolated single chains or layers, but also fibres and thin layers (films) of varying but finite thickness. Clearly, a multitude of physical phenomena, notably in solid state physics, fall into these categories. As examples, we may mention: • Magnetic chains or layers (thin-film technology). • Metallic films (homogeneous or heterogeneous, crystalline, amorphous or microcristalline, etc.). • I-d or 2-d conductors and superconductors. • Intercalated systems. • 2-d electron gases (electrons on helium, semiconductor interfaces). • Surface layer problems (2-d melting of monolayers of noble gases on a substrate, surface problems in general). • Superfluid films of ~He or 'He. • Polymer physics. • Organic and inorganic chain conductors, superionic conductors. • I-d or 2-d molecular crystals and liquid crystals. • I-d or 2-d ferro- and antiferro electrics.

Book Effect of Environment on the Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Transition Metals and Rare earth Complexes

Download or read book Effect of Environment on the Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Transition Metals and Rare earth Complexes written by Tuerhong Rouzhaji and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents the results of low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) studies on transition-metal phthalocyanines molecules on the noble metal surfaces. The STM/STS measurements have been performed for MnPc and CuPc molecules adsorbed on Ag(111) and Au(111) surfaces at the experimental working temperature of 4.5 K. These two types of molecules exhibit substantially different adsorption configurations, the electronic and magnetic behaviors and the molecule vibrational structures. The STM/STS studies have focused mainly on the magnetic properties of these molecules by means of Kondo effect, and special attention has been paid to MnPc molecule due to its more interesting magnetic behavior arising from the central Mn atom. Particularly we investigated the spectral evolution of electronic and magnetic structures of MnPc starting from a single molecule up to the ordered bilayer structures on Ag(111) surface. In addition, the STM/STS investigations showed an evidence of magnetic coupling between the magnetic moments of the Co atom and MnPc molecule and its strong dependence on the adsorption site of Co atom. These STM/STS investigations on this system allowed us to understand the effect of molecule-substrate, molecule-molecule and molecule-atom interactions on the electronic and magnetic properties of MnPc molecules.

Book Influence of Microstructural Properties of Thin Films on Their Magnetic Properties

Download or read book Influence of Microstructural Properties of Thin Films on Their Magnetic Properties written by Prabandha Nakarmi and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetic materials are of great importance for a wide range of applications from daily usage to industrial scale equipment. Different devices require different classes of magnetic materials based on the required magnetic properties. Magnetic properties of these materials are influenced by the microstructure of the material. Therefore, a detailed understanding of the microstructures of magnetic material and their influence on the magnetic properties are extremely crucial to optimize materials for particular applications. This dissertation provides theoretical and experimental studies of the influence of the microstructural properties of ferromagnetic materials on the dynamic magnetic properties using numerical simulations and ferromagnetic resonance experiments.A theoretical investigation of the influence of the magnetic properties of multiple constituents of a material on the presence of multiple resonances observed in magnetization dynamics studies is presented in the second chapter of this dissertation. In addition, this chapter also provides insights regarding the consequences of erroneous model assumptions on extraction of material parameters from studies of the magnetization dynamics. The understanding gained from the studies of the second chapter is used in chapter three to study the presence of two strong resonances in cobalt-based nanocomposites and its derivatives synthesized by addition of cobalt and boron. Furthermore, detailed structural and magnetic analyses of cobalt and boron added nanocomposites under the influence of annealing are presented in the third chapter of this dissertation. In chapter four, the influence of defects on the Gilbert damping in polycrystalline iron is investigated. Detailed ferromagnetic resonance studies of the polycrystalline iron samples showed a surprising insensitivity of the damping parameter to defects present in the samples at room temperature.

Book Transition Metals and Silicon

Download or read book Transition Metals and Silicon written by Benjamin Geisler and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present, richly illustrated book takes the reader on a tour through the field of modern spintronics, discussing key aspects such as ferromagnetic thin films, dilute magnetic semiconductors, and magnetic tunnel junctions. It demonstrates different approaches to a detailed understanding of magnetism and materials properties on the atomic scale, as required by the ongoing miniaturization of electronics. Due to their technological relevance, the focus lies on silicon and different transition metals like chromium, manganese, and iron. Among others, the following questions are addressed from the viewpoint of state-of-the-art computational physics: Is the scanning tunneling microscope capable of resolving even complex film atomic structures? How can we use its spin-sensitive form to gain insight into interactions of magnetic impurities in bulk semiconductors? Why is chromium-doped silicon especially interesting? Does one need a Seebeck coefficient to obtain spincaloric properties ab initio?
