Download or read book Parental Influence Career related Variables Self efficacy and Educational Aspiration written by Isa Ado Abubakar and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study examines the influence of parental influence and career-related variables on academic achievement being one of the fundamental factors in educational and career development process that paves way to the translation of career choice, interest and goals into action directly and indirectly through the mediation of academic self-efficacy and educational aspiration. The study was based on the theoretical foundation of Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) and Donald Super theory of career development. The study used a valid sample of 502 drawn through stratified random sampling technique from 28 randomly selected secondary schools in three metropolitan educational zones. Data was collected using a questionnaire that measured seven constructs. However, data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 20 and Amos Software version 18. Path analysis was employed in analysing the data and findings reveal that parental education and parental academic motivation as component of parental influence significantly and positively affect academic self-efficacy while all parental education and parental involvement significantly and positively influence educational aspiration. On the other hand, only vocational outcome expectation as a component of career-related component variables significantly and positively influenced academic self-efficacy. However, no significant direct relationships between academic self-efficacy, educational aspiration and academic achievement were found. Moreover, no mediation effect of academic self-efficacy and educational aspiration in the relationship between parental influence, career-related variables and academic achievement. Theoretically, the findings of the study support the preposition of SCCT involving strong correlation between vocational outcome expectation and self-efficacy. The study provides a ground for new policy initiatives to connect guidance with major public policy to enhance educational efficiency and outcome for young people. The study recommends that school administrators' should improve parental involvement by bridging the gap between home and school and ensure that functional guidance and counselling services are provided to cater for the students' educational, career and personal needs.

My aim was to find out, why parents decided to send the girls to school and what they expect from those investments in the future. Four leading hypotheses were established before the interviews took place, namely: 1. Families that have the choice of sending boys or girls to school prefer the boys. ...] 2. Only parents who are educated themselves also care about education for their children. 3. The work that has to be done around the house prevents parents from sending their children to school, since their working skills are needed in order to feed the family 4. Parents see the investing in their children as a step into a secure future for themselves, which is often the main reason why they send their children to school. In order to find out whether those hypotheses apply, the interview was constructed around those questions. ...] The set-up of the paper will reconstruct the approach, which was taken in order to find answers to the hypotheses. This book was released on 2019-10-20 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Psychology - Learning Psychology, Intelligence Research, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (Faculty of Education), language: English, abstract: What is the relationship between parental involvement and academic self-confidence of junior secondary school students in Awka? What is the relationship between parental involvement and academic engagement among junior secondary school students in Awka? Parental involvement in the academic activities of their children, no doubt, plays a vital role towards developing academic self-confidence and engagement of the students. As the primary socializing agent of the children, parents have the responsibility of nurturing them for all round development through their interaction. However, in this contemporary time where parents are very busy with making money and pursuing their different careers and vocations, they seem to pay less or no attention by getting involved in the academic activities of their wards, thereby, leaving them solely in the hands of teachers or all by themselves. This development seems to be a slap on the expectation that parents through nurturing their children build their self-confidence which could in turn affect how they engage in academic activities. It is against this scenario that the researcher determines to explore the predictive influence of perceived parental involvement on academic self-confidence and academic engagement among junior secondary school students in Awka. Parental involvement refers to the degree to which parents are committed to their role in providing guidance, showing interest, motivating their wards and having a good communication skill geared towards promoting their children's active engagement in the school. It typically concerns the amount of effort that parents put into child-oriented education as well as other activities. Apparently, parental involvement refers to parent behaviours related to the child's school or schooling that c
