This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments aiming at characterizing the effects of moisture content and temperature on the mechanical properties of concrete were conducted. Based on the results of the experiments, theoretical formulations were proposed and a new overall material model capable of predicting the mechanical behaviour of concrete subject to elevated temperatures up to 100 C was developed. The new material model estimates the time, temperature and moisture dependency of the compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, creep and shrinkage of concrete. Consequently, this book provides specific knowledge about the influences of elevated temperatures and moisture content on the mechanical behaviour of concrete as well as a tool to calculate these influences. This shall contribute to the field of investigation of estimating the structural safety under ordinary and extraordinary loadings as well as to the area of evaluating the service life of concrete structures.

Book Concrete at High Temperatures

Download or read book Concrete at High Temperatures written by Zdeněk P. Bažant and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1996 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increased use of concrete in high temperature environments, it is essential for engineers to have a knowledge of the properties and mathematical modelling of concrete in such extreme conditions. Bringing together, for the first time, vast amounts of data previously scattered throughout numerous papers and periodicals, this book provides, in two parts, a comprehensive and systematic review of both the properties and the mathematical modelling of concrete at high temperatures. Part I provides a comprehensive description of the material properties of concrete at high temperatures. Assuming only a basic knowledge of mathematics, the information is presented at an elementary level suitable for graduates of civil engineering or materials science. Part II describes the response of concrete to high temperatures in precise terms based on mathematical modelling of physical processes. Suitable for advanced graduate students, researchers and specialists, it presents detailed mathematical models of phenomena such as heat transfer, moisture diffusion, creep, volume changes, cracking and fracture. Concrete at High Temperatures will prove a valuable reference source to university researchers and graduate students in civil engineering and materials science, engineers in research laboratories, and practising engineers concerned with fire resistance, concrete structures for nuclear reactors and chemical technology vessels.

Book Fire Safety Engineering Design of Structures Third Edition

Download or read book Fire Safety Engineering Design of Structures Third Edition written by John A. Purkiss and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-12-05 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designing structures to withstand the effects of fire is challenging, and requires a series of complex design decisions. This third edition of Fire Safety Engineering Design of Structures provides practising fire safety engineers with the tools to design structures to withstand fires. This text details standard industry design decisions, and offers expert design advice, with relevant historical data. It includes extensive data on materials’ behaviour and modeling -- concrete, steel, composite steel-concrete, timber, masonry, and aluminium. While weighted to the fire sections of the Eurocodes, this book also includes historical data to allow older structures to be assessed. It extensively covers fire damage investigation, and includes as far back as possible, the background to code methods to enable the engineer to better understand why certain procedures are adopted. What’s new in the Third Edition? An overview in the first chapter explains the types of design decisions required for optimum fire performance of a structure, and demonstrates the effect of temperature rise on structural performance of structural elements. It extends the sections on less common engineering materials. The section on computer modelling now includes material on coupled heat and mass transfer, enabling a better understanding of the phenomenon of spalling in concrete. It includes a series of worked examples, and provides an extensive reference section. Readers require a working knowledge of structural mechanics and methods of structural design at ambient conditions, and are helped by some understanding of thermodynamics of heat transfer. This book serves as a resource for engineers working in the field of fire safety, consultants who regularly carry out full fire safety design for structure, and researchers seeking background information. Dr John Purkiss is a chartered civil and structural engineer/consultant and former lecturer in structural engineering at Aston University, UK. Dr Long-Yuan Li is Professor of Structural Engineering at Plymouth University, UK, and a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Book Multi Scale Modeling of Structural Concrete

Download or read book Multi Scale Modeling of Structural Concrete written by Koichi Maekawa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-11-28 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increases in computer power have now enabled engineers to combine materials science with structural mechanics in the design and the assessment of concrete structures. The techniques developed have become especially useful for the performance assessment of such structures under coupled mechanistic and environmental actions. This allows effective management of infrastructure over a much longer life cycle, thus satisfying the requirements for durability and sustainability. This ground-breaking new book draws on the fields of materials and structural mechanics in an integrated way to address the questions of management and maintenance. It proposes a realistic way of simulating both constituent materials and structural responses under external loading and under ambient conditions. Where the research literature discusses component or element technology related to performance assessment, this book uniquely covers the subject at the level of the whole system including soil foundation, showing engineers how to model changes in concrete structures over time and how to use this for decision making in infrastructure maintenance and asset management.

Book Concrete Admixtures Handbook

Download or read book Concrete Admixtures Handbook written by V.S. Ramachandran and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1996-12-31 with total page 1183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the first edition ten years ago, significant developments have occurred in the use of admixtures in concrete. Eight new chapters and a full update of the preceding ten chapters bring this book up to date; reflecting the relative advances made in the science and technology of different groups of admixtures. The increased role and development of admixtures in concrete technology is evidenced by a number of conferences, publications, and novel admixtures available in the market place. These developments in the field caused the modification of many chapters in the first edition in order to reflect the advances. Although individual chapters refer to standards and specifications of admixtures, those only interested in the standards or techniques used in investigating admixtures will find the second chapter (Research Technologies, Standards, and Specifications) useful. Admixtures are not as inert as may be presumed. They may chemically interact with the constituents of concrete and affect the properties of the fresh and hardened concrete and its durability. The third chapter deals with these aspects. It was important to devote a chapter to recent attempts in developing new admixtures.
