Book Russian Trade Unions and Industrial Relations in Transition

Download or read book Russian Trade Unions and Industrial Relations in Transition written by S. Ashwin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2002-11-14 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many commentators expected the Russian trade unions to collapse along with the system of which they were an integral part, but the trade unions survived the storms of the Yeltsin era by adopting a strategy of 'social partnership'. This book, based on case-study and survey research in eight Russian regions, provides a detailed account of the development of trade unionism in Russia since the collapse of the soviet system. Against the background of the role of the trade unions in the soviet system, the book reviews the political role, structure and functions of the trade unions, development of social partnership at federal and regional levels, and provides a detailed account of the activity of the trade unions at the level of enterprise. The book concludes with a critical assessment of the Russian unions' strategy of 'social partnership' and locates it in comparative perspective.

Book U S Industrial Relations in Transition

Download or read book U S Industrial Relations in Transition written by Thomas A. Kochan and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from U. S. Industrial Relations in Transition: A Summary Report For the past three and one half years members of our research group have been engaged in a series of related research projects designed to: (1) update our understanding of current practices in industrial relations at the level of the firm, (2) assess and interpret the changes in practice that have been occurring over a number of years, and (3) reformulate industrial relations theory based on our empirical findings in ways that better explain the dynamics of the U.S. industrial relations system, A variety of interim publications have reported various aspects of our work and we are presently drafting a final book that draws together our findings and highlights their theoretical and policy implications (See the bibliography for a partial list of publications from the project). The purposes of this paper are to summarize the main conclusions of our research and contribute to the emerging debate over the causes, characteristics and future consequences of the rapid and widespread transformations occurring in the U.S. industrial relations system. The Strategic Choice Framework To understand those transformations requires going beyond a description of the recent visible changes in collective bargaining. Instead it it necessary to analyze the historic and dynamic evolution of industrial relations in both the union and nonunion sectors of the American economy. The books explores key issues such as: the chances of renewal * developments in the management and organisation of operations and supply chains * the differences made by Japanese methods This is a timely assessment of the UK's industrial development and makes a major contribution to debates over the industrial strategy and the position of manufacturing within industrialized economies.

Book Industrial Relations

Download or read book Industrial Relations written by Trevor Colling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of Industrial Relations: Theory and Practice follows the approach established successfully in preceding volumes edited by Paul Edwards. The focus is on Britain after a decade of public policy which has once again altered the terrain on which employment relations develop. Government has attempted to balance flexibility with fairness, preserving light-touch regulation whilst introducing rights to minimum wages and to employee representation in the workplace. Yet this is an open economy, conditioned significantly by developing patterns of international trade and by European Union policy initiatives. This interaction of domestic and cross-national influences in analysis of changes in employment relations runs throughout the volume.
