  • Author : Ken Takayama
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-10-05
  • ISBN : 3642139175
  • Pages : 345 pages

Download or read book Induction Accelerators written by Ken Takayama and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A broad class of accelerators rests on the induction principle whereby the accelerating electrical fields are generated by time-varying magnetic fluxes. Particularly suitable for the transport of bright and high-intensity beams of electrons, protons or heavy ions in any geometry (linear or circular) the research and development of induction accelerators is a thriving subfield of accelerator physics. This text is the first comprehensive account of both the fundamentals and the state of the art about the modern conceptual design and implementation of such devices. Accordingly, the first part of the book is devoted to the essential features of and key technologies used for induction accelerators at a level suitable for postgraduate students and newcomers to the field. Subsequent chapters deal with more specialized and advanced topics.

Book High Brightness Accelerators

    Book Details:
  • Author : Anthony D. Hyder
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1468455087
  • Pages : 812 pages

Download or read book High Brightness Accelerators written by Anthony D. Hyder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 812 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on High-Brightness Accelerators was held at the Atholl Palace Hotel, Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland, from July 13 through July 25, 1986. This publication is the Proceedings of the Institute. This ASI emphasized the basic physics and engineering of the rela tively new and fast-emerging field of high-brightness particle accelera tors. These machines are high- to very-high-current (amperes to hundreds of kiloamperes), modest-voltage (megavolt to tens of megavolts) devices, and as such are opposed to those historically used for high-energy physics studies (i.e., gigavolt and higher energies and rather low currents). The primary focus of the Institute was on the physics of the accelerator and the beam, including the dynamics, equilibria, and insta bilities of high-current beams near the space-charge limit; accelerator engineering techniques; and the applications of high-brightness beams in areas such as free-electron lasers, synchrotron-radiation sources, food processing, and heavy- and light-ion fusion. The Institute concentrated on bringing together several diverse but related communities which, we hope, benefited from this opportunity to interact: the North American activity in machine technology, engineer ing, and diagnostics with the strong European theoretical community; the basic beam physicists with the engineering technologists.

Book Physics with Multiply Charged Ions

Download or read book Physics with Multiply Charged Ions written by Dieter Liesen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiply charged ions have always been in the focus of atomic physics, astrophysics, plasma physics, and theoretical physics. Within the last few years, strong progress has been achieved in the development of ion sources, ion storage rings, ion traps, and methods to cool ions. As a consequence, nowadays, experiments with ensembles of multiply charged ions of brilliant quality are performed in many laboratories. The broad spectrum of the experiments demonstrates that these ions are an extremely versatile tool for investigations in pure and applied physics. It was the aim of this ASI to bring together scientists working in different fields of research with multiply charged ions in order to get an overview of the state of the art, to sound out possibilities for fruitful cooperations, and to discuss perspectives for the future. Accordingly, the programme of the ASI reached from established areas like QED calculations, weak interactions, x-ray astronomy, x-ray lasers, multi photon excitation, heavy-ion induced fusion, and ion-surface interactions up to the very recently opened areas like bound-beta decay, laser and x-ray spectroscopy, and spectrometry of ions in rings and traps, and the interaction of highly charged ions with biological cells. Impressive progress in nearly all of the fields could be reported during the meeting which is documented by the contributions to this volume. The theoretical understand ing of QED and correlation effects in few-electron heavy ions is rapidly developing.

Download or read book Emerging Nuclear Energy Ststems Icenes 93 Proceedings Of The Seventh International Conference written by H Yasuda and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-04-27 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To overcome the problems of system theory and network theory over real field, this book uses matrices over the field F(z) of rational functions in multi-parameters describing coefficient matrices of systems and networks and makes systems and network description over F(z) and researches their structural properties: reducible condition of a class of matrices over F(z) and their characteristic polynomial; type-1 matrix and two basic properties; variable replacement conditions for independent parameters; structural controllability and observability of linear systems over F(z); separability, reducibility, controllability, observability and structural conditions of networks over F(z), and so on. This book involves three subjects: systems, networks and matrices over F(z), which is an achievement of interdisciplinary research.
