Book Indoor Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Indoor Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We considered the issue of indoor localization through the use of wireless sensor networks (WSN). We value not necessary the algorithm that provides the best accuracy but the one that provides a good enough level of accuracy in a simple and efficient manner. In the first part of our work we examined some state-of-the-art localization techniques that are deployable on wireless sensor motes. These techniques are evaluated to a set of criteria that an indoor WSN-based localization application must consider. In our investigation, we considered not only accuracy but many other factors that determine a suitable indoor WSN-based localization system. These factors among other things determine energy efficiency. We broadly separate the criteria list into two categories: efficiency-based and accuracy-based. We discovered that one of the techniques, Ecolocation, evaluates quite well to the efficiency-based criteria, but the evaluation of the accuracy-based criterions is not as promising. However, the inherent simplicity and potential for good performance (based on open environment results) make the algorithm quite attractive. We proceeded to modify the algorithm to improve its accuracy while maintaining its positive qualities. Our Weighted-Constraints algorithm, named as such due to the nature of the modification, performs in terms of average error 13.1% better than the original Ecolocation algorithm in an open environment. Furthermore, our modified algorithm shows it is more robust to noise compared to the original algorithm by perform on average 21.2% better in a noisy environment.

Book Indoor Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Indoor Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Xiaowei Lv and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is dedicated to solve the localization problem in mobile wireless sensor networks. It works mainly with fingerprints features and inertial movements information. The former tackles the RSSIs values between sensors while the latter deals with the objets movement attitude by using accelerometer and gyroscope. The combination of both information is performed in terms of interval analysis, or Kalman filtering. The proposed work introduces three orders mobility models to approximate nodes trajectories using accelerations, combined then to the weighted K nearest neighbors algorithm in a centralized scheme. Then the mobility models are extended up to the inertial information taking into consideration the rotations of the nodes. A decentralized localization method is also proposed in the following in view of the working mechanism of large scale sensor networks. Finally, this thesis proposes a zoning localization method aiming at determining the zones in which the nodes reside. The proposed method addresses the zoning problem by using both the belief functions theory and the interval analysis.

Book Wireless Indoor Localization

Download or read book Wireless Indoor Localization written by Chenshu Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of wireless indoor localization for ubiquitous applications. The past decade has witnessed a flourishing of WiFi-based indoor localization, which has become one of the most popular localization solutions and has attracted considerable attention from both the academic and industrial communities. Specifically focusing on WiFi fingerprint based localization via crowdsourcing, the book follows a top-down approach and explores the three most important aspects of wireless indoor localization: deployment, maintenance, and service accuracy. After extensively reviewing the state-of-the-art literature, it highlights the latest advances in crowdsourcing-enabled WiFi localization. It elaborated the ideas, methods and systems for implementing the crowdsourcing approach for fingerprint-based localization. By tackling the problems such as: deployment costs of fingerprint database construction, maintenance overhead of fingerprint database updating, floor plan generation, and location errors, the book offers a valuable reference guide for technicians and practitioners in the field of location-based services. As the first of its kind, introducing readers to WiFi-based localization from a crowdsourcing perspective, it will greatly benefit and appeal to scientists and researchers in mobile and ubiquitous computing and related areas.

Book Indoor Localization Techniques Based on Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book Indoor Localization Techniques Based on Wireless Sensor Networks written by Hyo-Sung Ahn and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this chapter, we presented a set of classifications of indoor localization techniques. We generated categories according to measurement attribute, location algorithms, and communication protocols. The classifications presented in this chapter provide a compact form of overview on WSN-based indoor localizations. Then, based on the classifications, we introduced server-based and range-based localization systems that can be used for the indoor service robot. Specifically, we presented UWB, Wi-Fi, ZigBee, and CSS-based localization systems. From actual experimental tests, however we found that the existing WSN-based methods have their own disadvantage. That is, Ubisense system is expensive and needs heavy hardware equipment. The Wi-Fi system (Ekahau) has a low accuracy and is only useful for the room-level localization. The CSS-based system is too expensive. Thus, this chapter introduced a localization method based on received signal strength index (RSSI).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of two or more wireless devices with the capability to communicate with each other without the aid of any centralized administrator. Ad hoc networks have no fixed routers, these nodes can be connected dynamically in an arbitrary manner. MANETs, due to their operational characteristics, the dynamics of their changes and the precariousness of their resources, offer huge challenges due to the architecture and service nature in the next generation of mobile communications. MANETs play an important role in the future of next-generation networks. This special collection identifies and studies the most important concerns in MANETs, and includes contributions from researchers, academics, etc.
