Download or read book Tigers of the World written by Ronald Tilson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2009-11-30 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tigers of the World, Second Edition explores tiger biology, ecology, conservation, management, and the science and technology that make this possible. In 1988, when the first edition was published, tiger conservation was still in its infancy, and two decades later there has been a revolution not only in what is known, but how information about tigers is obtained and disseminated. In the fast changing world of conservation, there is a great need to summarize the vast and current state-of-the-art, to put this into historical perspective, and to speculate in what yet remains to be done.Tigers of the World, Second Edition fulfills this need by bringing together in a unique way the world's leading tiger experts into one volume. Despite the challenges ahead, there are bright spots in this story and lessons aplenty not only for tiger specialists but large carnivore specialists, conservation biologists, wildlife managers, natural resource policymakers, and most importantly the caring public. - Examines the past twenty years of research from the world's leading tiger experts on biology, politics, and conservation - Describes latest methods used to disseminate and obtain information needed for conservation and care of this species - Includes coverage on genetics and ecology, policy, poaching and trade, captive breeding and farming, and the status of Asia's last wild tigers - Excellent resource for grad courses in conservation biology, wildlife management, and veterinary programs - New volume continues the classic Noyes Series in Animal Behavior, Ecology, Conservation and Management

This book was released on 2019-07-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is Open Access under a CC BY license. This volume offers an essential resource for economic policymakers as well as students of development economics focusing on the interrelationships of migration, urbanization and poverty in Asia. The continent’s recent demographic transitions and rural-urban structural transformations are extraordinary, and involve complexities that require in-depth study. The chapters within this volume examine those complexities using a range of traditional and non-traditional measures, such as multidimensional poverty, gaps and polarization, to arrive at the conclusion that poverty is now an urban issue. In short, the book will help students of development economics and policymakers understand the interrelationships between internal migration, urbanization and poverty, paving the way for the improved management of internal migration and disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term "accountability" is increasingly heard at the United Nations. More than six decades after the organization's founding, people continue to ask exactly how the UN is accountable for what it does, and many agree that enhanced UN accountability is a prerequisite to effective global governance. Nevertheless, the concept is elusive and rarely defined, and views have diverged on its proper meaning and various implications. The contributors to this volume identify key issues, raise pertinent questions, and suggest useful reforms regarding accountability in the context of the United Nations system. Contributors include Edith Brown Weiss (Georgetown University Law Center), Michael Fowler (University of Louisville), Koji Fukuda (Waseda University, Tokyo), Ikuyo Hasuo (Osaka University), Anna Herken (office of the Secretary General of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), Tadanori Inomata (United Nations), Kyoji Kawasaki (Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo), Tatsuro Kunugi (United Nations University and International Cooperation Research Association), Sumihiro Kuyama (United Nations University), Peter Lallas (World Bank), Edward Luck (International Peace Institute and office of the UN Secretary-General), Suresh Nanwani (Asian Development Bank), Jochen Prantl (Centre for International Studies and Nuffield College, University of Oxford), Michael Reiterer (University of Innsbruck), Tetsuo Sato (Hitotsubashi University), Hideaki Shiroyama (University of Tokyo), Mariko Shoji (Keiai University, Chiba), Kazuo Takahashi (United Nations University and National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Tokyo), Hirohide Takikawa (Osaka City University), and Mikoto Usui (Tsukuba University).

Download or read book Early Childhood Education and Development in Indonesia written by Amina Denboba and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 2000s, Indonesia has taken a number of steps to prioritize early childhood development - ranging from the inclusion of Early Childhood Development (ECD) in the National Education System Law No. 20 in 2003 to a Presidential Declaration on Holistic and Integrated ECD and the launch of the country's first ever ECD Census in 2011. These policy milestones have occurred in parallel with sustained progress on outcomes included in the Millennium Development Goals, including for child malnutrition, child mortality and universal basic education. Additional progress could be achieved by strengthening ECD policies further. This report presents findings from an assessment of ECD policies and programs in Indonesia based on two World Bank tools: the ECD module of the Systems Approach for Better Education Results (SABER) and a guide on essential interventions for investing in young children. Results from the application of both tools to Indonesia are used to suggest a number of policy options for consideration.
