Book excerpt: "The document "Indicators for the sustainable development of finfish Mediterranean aquaculture: highlights from the InDAM Project" reports the activities carried out during the first year of the InDAM Project "Indicators for Sustainable Development of Aquaculture and Guidelines for their use in the Mediterranean", in support to the GFCM CAQ Working Group on Sustainability in Aquaculture (WGSA). The project focuses on the practical use of the indicators for sustainable aquaculture and their adaptation to the Mediterranean Region. The methodology applied for the identification of the preliminary list of indicators was based on the PCI (Principles, Criteria and Indicators) approach and took into consideration the main outcomes and achievements of the recent projects carried out in the Mediterranean on the identification of indicators for sustainable aquaculture. The document also reports the results of the workshop on the "Selection of indicators for the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean Sea" (27-28 November 2008, Montpellier, France), the expert meeting on "Indicators for the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Mediterranean Sea" (24-26 February 2009, Montpellier, France) and the workshop on "Guidelines and application of indicators for sustainable development of aquaculture" (19-20 November 2009, Salammbô, Tunisia), with recommendations given by the WGSA. The two pilot studies on the selection and evaluation of the indicators for aquaculture sustainable development carried out in Mugla, Turkey, and Monastir, Tunisia, are described. The report also includes a series of documents gathered and produced by the experts involved in InDAM activities."--P. [4] of cover.

Book Environmental and Agricultural Modelling

Download or read book Environmental and Agricultural Modelling written by Floor M. Brouwer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture increasingly faces the challenge of balancing its multiple functions in a sustainable way. Integrated assessment and modelling (IAM) can provide insight into the potential impacts of policy changes. However, concepts to address the wide range of issues and functions typical for agriculture are still scarce. Environmental and Agricultural Modelling reviews and presents our current understanding of integrated and working tools to assess and compute, ex-ante, alternative agricultural and environmental policy options, allowing: 1. Analysis at the full range of scales (farm to European Union and global) whilst focusing on the most important issues emerging at each scale; 2. Analysis of the environmental, economic and social contributions of agricultural systems towards sustainable rural development and rural viability; 3. Analysis of a broad range of issues and agents of change, such as climate change, environmental policies, rural development options, effects of an enlarging EU, international competition, and effects on developing countries.

Book Les indicateurs territoriaux de d veloppement durable

Download or read book Les indicateurs territoriaux de d veloppement durable written by Yvette Lazzeri and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Mobility in the Face of Extreme Hydrometeorological Events 1

Download or read book Mobility in the Face of Extreme Hydrometeorological Events 1 written by Celine Lutoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobilities Facing Hydrometeorological Extreme Events 1: Defining the Relevant Scales of Analysis provides a summary of the interdisciplinary work done over the past ten years on the exposure of daily mobility. Residential mobility, the way in which the occupation of the flood zones evolves with time, and the resulting immobile exposure are also at the heart of this work. In the face of recrudescence and the intensification of fast floods, the book seeks to understand how the interaction of hydro-meteorological, social and development dynamics combine to bring about an improvement or, on the contrary, a worsening of both mobile and immobile exposure. The book relies on different fields and studies conducted in the South East of France and more broadly on the Mediterranean basin to answer these questions and verify these hypotheses, with a forward challenge to better understand how population movements are exposed to these phenomena. - Provides a synthesis of interdisciplinary work on the exposure of daily mobilities - Establishes a diagram of the evolution of the flood zones and the immobile exposure - Finds the cause and effect of these phenomena - Conducts studies to answer these questions and verify these hypotheses

Book Sustainability of the Agri food System Strategies and Performances

Download or read book Sustainability of the Agri food System Strategies and Performances written by Bernardo De Gennaro and published by Universitas Studiorum. This book was released on 2014-11-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2013 annual conference of the Italian Society of Agricultural Economics (SIDEA) has been held in the attractive scenario of the city of Lecce under the organization of three different Universities of the Apulia Region (Università degli Studi di Bari, Università degli Studi di Foggia and Università del Salento). The scientific theme of the 50th SIDEA Conference has been “Sustainability of the agri-food system: Strategies and Performances” (Sostenibilità del Sistema Agroalimentare: strategie e performance). With such a topic, the SIDEA intended to cope with the challenges coming from a growing demand of food in a world where critical natural resources such as water, energy and land are becoming increasingly scarce and climate change is posing credible threats. The agri-food system and the broader bio-based economy are, in fact, human activities where the classic dimensions of sustainability (ecological, economic and social) are gaining a striking weight often showing evidence of frictions. Despite a significant growth in food production over the past century, today one of the most important challenges facing agro-food system is how to feed a growing population.

Download or read book Cultural Policy written by Diane St-Pierre and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do Canadian provincial and territorial governments intervene in the cultural and artistic lives of their citizens? What changes and influences shaped the origin of these policies and their implementation? On what foundations were policies based, and on what foundations are they based today? How have governments defined the concepts of culture and of cultural policy over time? What are the objectives and outcomes of their policies, and what instruments do they use to pursue them? Answers to these questions are multiple and complex, partly as a result of the unique historical context of each province and territory, and partly because of the various objectives of successive governments, and the values and identities of their citizens. Cultural Policy: Origins, Evolution, and Implementation in Canada’s Provinces and Territories offers a comprehensive history of subnational cultural policies, including the institutionalization and instrumentalization of culture by provincial and territorial governments; government cultural objectives and outcomes; the role of departments, Crown corporations, other government organizations, and major public institutions in the cultural domain; and the development, dissemination, and impact of subnational cultural policy interventions. Book Introduction to Sustainable Transports

Download or read book Introduction to Sustainable Transports written by Bernard Favre and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-02-19 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport systems have to meet the mobility needs of people and commodities on all scales, from the local to the global level. Concerns about the energy, fumes and sound emissions produced, and about the safety, service quality, intelligence and lifecycle of the systems, etc. can all be included in a systemic approach. This approach can contribute to the development of sustainable solutions, for individual vehicles as well as for transport systems. Derived from an approach combining the social and physical sciences, these solutions result from the integration of physical objects, services and organizational processes, which involve several actors. Their harmonious organization contributes to the development of more virtuous transport systems for the future of urban and inter-urban mobility.

Download or read book River Restoration written by Bertrand Morandi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: River Restoration River restoration initiatives are now widespread across the world. The research efforts undertaken to support them are increasingly interdisciplinary, focusing on ecological, chemical, physical as well as societal issues. River Restoration: Political, Social, and Economic Perspectives provides a comprehensive overview of research in the field of river restoration in humanities and the social sciences. It illustrates how, in the last thirty years or so, such approaches have evolved and strengthened within the restoration sciences. The scientific community working in this domain has structured itself, often regionally and circumstantially, to critically assess and improve restoration policies and practices. As a research field, river restoration tackles three thematic axes: Human-river interactions – especially perceptions and practices of rivers, and how these interactions can be changed by restoration projects Political processes, with a particular interest in governance and decision-making, and a specific emphasis on the question of public participation in restoration projects Evaluation of the social and economic benefits of river restoration River Restoration: Political, Social, and Economic Perspectives encompasses these three topics, and more, to provide the reader with the most up-to-date and holistic view of this constantly evolving area. The book will be of particular interest to human and social scientists, biophysical scientists (hydrologists, geomorphologists, ecologists), environmental scientists, public policy makers, design or planning officers, and anyone working in the field of river restoration.
