Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “After the peace treaty was signed at Armistice Hall, several groups were formed to take care of the restless situation in Korea. One of the teams was the Custodian Force, of which, I was fortunately part of! When I boarded the special train to Madras with my fellow members, there were already thirty cameramen eager to cover the news at the station. The civilians assembled with flags and shouted ‘Jai Hind!’ When I was posted in Vietnam, I had to go to the China Border to give a surprise visit to make sure that no weapons were being smuggled from China to North Vietnam. By the end of 1987, I had explored so many new and charismatic places in my own country. But while we were in Fatehpur Sikri, the only thought that daunted me in the evening was – Will we see the next day? Is this the end of us? Then again in 1998, I got bored of my hometown and decided to explore another new state to quench my wander thirst.” The facts in this book are of noted & ordinary citizens who have unleashed the spirit within, with extraordinary consequences, radically changing society for the better. Their ideas for action and their stories will inspire all at a profound level. This book uncovers some powerful notes/discoveries. This book also gives us some important advice as well as boosts us. This is not only a light book, but a book that encourages others also.

Recent genetic discoveries are uncovering surprising links between us and the peoples of old—links that rewrite race, ethnicity, and human history. Today’s Native Americans descend from Central Asians who arrived in the early A.D. era. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob still have clearly identifiable descendants, albeit rare ones. Every people group on earth can genetically trace their origins to Noah and his three sons.

Book Climate Crisis Adaptive Approaches and Sustainability

Download or read book Climate Crisis Adaptive Approaches and Sustainability written by Uday Chatterjee and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-01 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to contribute to the discourse on climate crisis by bringing together high-quality empirical research on adaptive approaches and sustainability case studies from across the world. The book is divided into six sections. The introductory section has two chapters which sets the ground of the book as it discusses the framing of climate crisis and the different approaches towards it. It also situates the book within the global discourse. The first chapter seeks the traditional approaches to bridge the gap in the new climate science, while the second chapter delivers the ultimate reasons for temperature change, global warming and its consequences (extreme weather events) in a comprehensive way. It is hoped that the book as a whole will provide a timely synthesis of a rapidly growing and important field of climate science but will also bring forward new and stimulating ideas that will shape a coherent and fruitful vision for future work for the community of Undergraduates, Postgraduates, Ph.D. Scholars and Researchers in the fields of environmental sciences, humanistic and social sciences and geography. In addition, policy and decision makers, environmentalists, NGOs, corporate sectors, social scientists, and government organizations will find this book to be of great value. We believe that a diverse group of academics, scientists, geographers, environmentalists, environmental regulators, social scientists, and sustainable scientists with a common interest within the earth environmental sciences and humanistic and social sciences will find this book to be a comprehensive source for reference. Also, we strongly deemed that it will also provide some support for various levels of organizations and administrations for developing and achieving UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 in purview of climate change.

Book Moving for Marriage

    Book Details:
  • Author : Shruti Chaudhry
  • Publisher : State University of New York Press
  • Release : 2021-10-01
  • ISBN : 143848559X
  • Pages : 249 pages

Download or read book Moving for Marriage written by Shruti Chaudhry and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortlisted for the 2023 BASAS Book Prize presented by British Association for South Asian Studies Based on ethnographic fieldwork in a village in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Moving for Marriage compares the lived experiences of women in "regional" marriages (that conform to caste and community norms within a relatively short distance) with women in "cross-regional" marriages (that traverse caste, linguistic, and state boundaries and entail long-distance migration within India). By demonstrating how geographic distance and regional origins make a difference in these women's experiences, Shruti Chaudhry challenges stereotypes and moral panics about cross-regional brides who are brought from far away. Indeed, Moving for Marriage highlights the ways in which the post-marital experiences of both categories of wives in this study—their work and social relationships, their sexual lives and childbearing decisions, and their ability to access support in everyday contexts and in the event of marital distress—are shaped by factors such as caste, class/poverty, religion, and stage in the life-course. In focusing on this Global South context, Chaudhry makes novel arguments about the development of intimacy within marriages that are inherently unequal and even violent, thereby offering an alternative to Euro-American understandings of intimacy and women's agency.
