Book Guide For Promoting Independence

Download or read book Guide For Promoting Independence written by Augustus Fouts and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You're thinking about how to provide the best care possible for a loved one. I applaud you for caring enough to be concerned: your loved one is already in a better position than many others because of you. Additional care beyond what someone can provide for his or herself, could be needed for many reasons. The stereotype is that of a frail elderly person who is simply unable to provide appropriate self-care, but there are other scenarios that warrant searching out additional care. If someone has an illness or injury, that person could potentially require short or long-term assistance in order to live a fulfilled life. Disability, whether congenital or due to some sort of trauma, could also make additional care desirable. This book will let you know about Promoting Independent Self Care. It will help people remain in the home rather than be admitted to an out of home placement.

Book Welfare and well being

Download or read book Welfare and well being written by Bill Jordan and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2008-09-10 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on well-being reveals the significance of personal relationships, trust and participation to sustain quality of life, yet it is the economic model that remains the dominant basis for political and social institutions and policy. In this original book, Bill Jordan presents a new analysis of well-being in terms of social value, and outlines how it could be incorporated into public policy decisions. He argues that the grandiose attempt to maximise welfare and regulate social relations through contract, in line with the economic theory of information and incentives, is counterproductive for well-being. Instead, both the quality of personal experience and the restraints necessary for a convivial collective life would be better served by a focus on cultures and institutions. This book will be an essential text for academics and students in social theory, social welfare, public policy and governance. Bill Jordan is Professor of Social Policy at Plymouth and Huddersfield Universities. He has held visiting chairs in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Slovakia and Hungary. He worked for 20 years in the UK social services, and is the author of 25 books on social policy, social theory, politics and social work.

Book Social care

    Book Details:
  • Author : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Health Committee
  • Publisher : The Stationery Office
  • Release : 2010-03-12
  • ISBN : 9780215544667
  • Pages : 134 pages

Download or read book Social care written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Health Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2010-03-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Health Committee calls for fundamental reform of the social care system in England and says political point-scoring must stop. Instead of indulging in pre-election politicking, all the parties should come together to map out sustainable reform. Consensus on the details of reforms must be achieved early in the new Parliament and a failure to do so will betray current and future generations. The report says the current social care system is chronically underfunded, severely rationed, locally variable, too often of poor quality and discriminates against older people. The Committee is highly critical of the Government's Free Personal Care at Home Bill which it says smacks of policy-making on the hoof and risks creating perverse incentives and being substantially underfunded. Free care funded from taxation has many supporters but has been ruled out as an option by the Government. The Committee urges debate on this issue. It also acknowledges the widespread concern about the proposed reform of disability benefits for older people, noting the lack of clear information from the Government on who the winners and losers will be. To mitigate significantly the worst aspects of the existing funding system, as an interim measure, the Committee recommends raising the capital thresholds in the means test. The Committee strongly supports giving people more choice and control over their care and support, but emphasises that vulnerable people must be properly protected.

Book Independent futures

Download or read book Independent futures written by Barnes, Colin and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2006-04-28 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of disability related support services controlled and run by disabled people themselves has increased significantly in the UK and internationally over the past forty years. As a result, greater user involvement in service provision and delivery is a key priority for many western Governments. This book provides the first comprehensive review and analysis of these developments in the UK. Drawing on evidence from a range of sources, including material from the first national study of user-controlled services, this book provides a critical evaluation of the development and organisation of user-controlled services in the UK and identifies the principal forces - economic, political and cultural - that influence and inhibit their further development. It summarises and discusses the policy implications for the future development of services and includes an up-to-date and comprehensive literature and research review. Independent futures is essential reading for academics and students on a range of courses including: health and social care; social work; allied health professions, such as nursing, occupational therapy and speech therapy; social policy; sociology; and psychology. It will also be of interest to practitioners and policy makers who need a reliable overview of current policy and critical analysis of key issues affecting future policy and practice.

Book Understanding and Promoting Access for People with Learning Difficulties

Download or read book Understanding and Promoting Access for People with Learning Difficulties written by Jane Seale and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-09-10 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue of access is at the forefront of the practical challenges facing people with learning difficulties and people working with or supporting them. This engaging text brings together evidence, narratives and discussions that question and advance our understanding of the concept of access for people with learning difficulties. Seale and Nind draw on their expertise to analyse a wide range of situations, including access to public spaces, citizenship education, community participation, and employment. Through a series of related chapters, key researchers in the field of inclusion and learning difficulties enrich the access debate by: considering what kind of access people with learning difficulties want; identifying effective practice in relation to facilitating and promoting access; revealing the capability of people with learning difficulties to seek and achieve access to potentially exclusionary communities; providing a space for a wide range of people to share access stories. With contributions from a variety of stakeholders including people with learning difficulties, Understanding and Promoting Access for People with Learning Difficulties clarifies the concept of access without over-simplifying what is involved. Through rigorous critique, this book provides a unique rationale for a new multi-dimensional model of access and ways of promoting it. Proposing a reconceptualisation of the risk associated with promoting access for people with learning difficulties, this book will be of immense interest to students, researchers and professionals involved in inclusion and disability issues.

Book Responsible Citizens

    Book Details:
  • Author : B. J. Brown
  • Publisher : Anthem Press
  • Release : 2013-10-15
  • ISBN : 1783080450
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book Responsible Citizens written by B. J. Brown and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The individual has never been more important in society – in almost every sphere of public and private life, the individual is sovereign. Yet the importance and apparent power assigned to the individual is not all that it seems. As ‘Responsible Citizens’ investigates via its UK-based case studies, this emphasis on the individual has gone hand in hand with a rise in subtle authoritarianism, which has insinuated itself into the government of the population. Whilst present throughout the public services, this authoritarianism is most conspicuous in the health and social welfare sectors, such that a kind of ‘governance through responsibility’ is today enforced upon the population.
