Book Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives

Download or read book Venture Capital Investment and Government Incentives written by Tamara Wilkinson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the best ways for governments to design venture capital investment incentives. Venture capital is a multi-billion-dollar industry and a major driver of innovation and national growth. Investment in startup companies by venture capital funds helps finance new inventions and create wealth, economic growth, and jobs. However, because venture capital investment is highly risky and sensitive to market downturns, many governments around the world use special legal and tax incentives to help encourage this form of investment. Since the introduction of the first venture capital incentive in the USA in 1958, scores of venture capital incentives have come and gone. These incentives have experienced varied success, with some failing entirely. Filling a gap in an important area, this book employs a legal and regulatory approach to examine venture capital policy from a global perspective. It uses an analytical framework to evaluate the design, implementation, and success of incentives, and looks at over 60 examples from 25 countries around the world. The book is aimed at researchers and policy makers in law, finance and economics, as well as practitioners and investors in the venture capital space. The book introduces the legal aspects of venture capital investment and presents a list of leading practice guidelines and recommendations to help policy makers design effective, efficient, and appropriate venture capital incentives.

Book Crafting Innovative Places for Australia s Knowledge Economy

Download or read book Crafting Innovative Places for Australia s Knowledge Economy written by Edward J. Blakely and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-07 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book integrates planning, policy, economics, and urban design into an approach to crafting innovative places. Exploring new paradigms of innovative places under the framework of globalisation, urbanisation, and new technology, it argues against state-centric policies to innovation and focuses on how a globalized approach can shape innovative capacity and competitiveness. It notably situates the innovative place making paradigm in a broader context of globalisation, urbanisation, the knowledge economy and technological advancement, and employs an international perspective that includes a wide range of case studies from America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Developing a co-design and co-creation paradigm that integrates governments, the private sector and the community into shared understanding and collaborative action in crafting innovative places, it discusses place-based innovation in Australian context to inform policy making and planning, and to contribute to policy debates on programs of smart cities and communities.

Book Integrating Innovation

Download or read book Integrating Innovation written by Göran Roos and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2015-05-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: South Australia is a small economy that faces a fundamental need to re-shape its approach to innovation. The manufacturing sector, as the backbone of the state’s economy, has and will continue to change in its nature and form. This necessitates a re-think about how innovation happens and how the respective actors within an economy interact and engage with each other. In effect, innovation relies on intersections between people, knowledge, information sharing, ideas, financial and other resources. Innovation happens through regional social and economic system dynamics; innovation relies on a system view of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship can be taken as a study of the entrepreneur and new business creation. However, this conception of entrepreneurship misses the critical link to economic outcomes; the ebb and flow of social and economic fortunes that are underpinned by the actions, reactions and engagement of individuals in a specific social and economic system that brings about innovation and change. In this book the authors are exploring how the linkages within the system can be conceptualised and made transparent.

Book excerpt: The authors of this report argue that in order to sustain current levels of prosperity Australia needs to foster innovation through collaboration between universities and industry. They present five recommendations that propose more effective ways of using existing resources, rather than requiring additional funding. They are: 1.Rebalance the national research agenda to underpin Australia's economy and future prosperity; 2.Create incentives for university-industry collaboration; 3.Train researchers for diverse careers; 4.Enhance career mobility between industry, academia and government; 5.Provide incentives for co-investment in research infrastructure between universities, industry and state and federal government. Book The Development of High Technology Industries

Download or read book The Development of High Technology Industries written by Michael J Breheny and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, originally published in 1988, reviews the development of high technology industries at global and selected national and local levels, providing a unique insight into reasons for and consequences of such modern industrial development. It appraises government policies for assisting the development of this sector and focuses on the fact that high tech industry tends to be concentrated in particular regions of countries which attain the status of 'successful populations'. High technology industry seems to offer little benefit to declining manufacturing areas and the book offers explanations for these regional concentrations and assesses the likely consequences.
