Teddy should really know better than to agree to one of Pierce's "great ideas," but he's never found it easy to say no to his best friend. Which is why he finds himself on the middle of a snow-covered road, heading into the mountains to spend the Christmas holiday in a rental cabin. And, like always, Pierce's great plan backfires. The cabin is a dump, it's freezing outside — and then comes the snowstorm. Pierce isn't sure how he's going to handle an entire weekend trapped with Teddy. Sure, the guy is his best friend, but tell that to Pierce's body. It's getting harder and hard to keep his hands to himself. Teddy doesn't think Pierce is interested in his nerdy best friend. Pierce doesn't think he's good enough for Teddy. But the fire's blazing, the wind is howling, and it's time for some changes.

The fledgeling Air Transport Auxiliary is rocked by a scandal that could ground the service before it has fully developed its wings. Teddy Carlton is approached by the acquaintance of an old school friend to help resolve the issue and thus embarks on a journey that sees her engaged in some of the most exciting work that a woman could perform in wartime. Her voyage sees Teddy embroiled in the secret world of espionage while exploiting her nascent skills in flying until she becomes one of the country’s top ferry pilots and a respected agent of the Security Service. Heartache and joy are her constant companions throughout her service, but the love for her family and her country keeps Teddy focused on the ultimate goal – the defeat of Nazi Germany... …and her husband only knew the half of it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an intellectual hamlet, century-old love letters give rise to murder The citizens of Concord, Massachusetts, never tire of their heritage. For decades, the intellectuals of this little hamlet have continued endless debates about Concord’s favorite sons: Emerson, Hawthorne, Thoreau, and their contemporaries. Concord’s latter-day transcendental scholars are a strange bunch, but none is more peculiar than Homer Kelly, an expert on Emerson and on homicide. An old-fashioned murder is about to put both skills to the test. At a meeting of the town’s intellectuals, Ernest Goss produces a cache of saucy love letters written by the men and women of the transcendentalist sect. Although Homer chortles at the idea that Louisa May Alcott and Ralph Waldo Emerson might have had a fling, Goss insists the letters are real. He never gets a chance to prove it. Soon after he is found killed by a musket ball. The past may not be dead, but Goss certainly is.

Book Some of the Parts

Download or read book Some of the Parts written by Hannah Barnaby and published by Knopf Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2016-02-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fans of Love Letters to the Dead and I’ll Give You the Sun comes a heartrending story of a teen who sets out on an unusual quest. For months, Tallie McGovern has been coping with the death of her older brother the only way she knows how: by smiling bravely and pretending that she’s okay. She’s managed to fool her friends, her parents, and her teachers, yet she can’t even say his name out loud: “N—” is as far as she can go. Then Tallie comes across a letter in the mail, and it only takes two words to crack the careful façade she’s built up: ORGAN DONOR. Two words that had apparently been checked off on her brother’s driver’s license; two words that her parents knew about—and never revealed to her. All at once, everything Tallie thought she understood about her brother’s death feels like a lie. And although a part of her knows he’s gone forever, another part of her wonders if finding the letter might be a sign. That if she can just track down the people on the other end of those two words, it might somehow bring him back. Hannah Barnaby’s deeply moving novel asks questions there are no easy answers to as it follows a family struggling to pick up the pieces, and a girl determined to find the brother she wasn’t ready to let go of.

Book Handbook of Clinical Behavioral Pediatrics

Download or read book Handbook of Clinical Behavioral Pediatrics written by Alan M. Gross and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-07 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1978, the editors have collaborated on several research projects and spent many hours at conventions discussing research, graduate education, and patient care. The idea for this volume arose when we both concluded that the area of behavioral pediatrics needed a "how to" book. Several important scholarly re views had recently appeared. They presented excellent summary information concerning the general assumptions and theories underlying the area of behav ioral medicine with children. But these volumes devote very little attention to the application of clinical methods. What was needed, we thought, was a book that would allow graduate students and practicing clinicians the opportunity to peer into the minds of eminent practitioners and understand their thinking. Thus the book was conceived. Editing books represents a special kind of challenge. One has to "sell" an idea to a group of distinguished colleagues. They have to believe enough in that idea to devote the considerable time and effort necessary to bring thought into reality. In this case, there were two ideas we tried to sell to our colleagues.

Book A Day in the Life of My Teddys Bears

Download or read book A Day in the Life of My Teddys Bears written by Rosaleen Obrien-Pegler and published by Chipmunkapublishing ltd. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DescriptionIn writing this book Rosaleen has captured the heart of every man, woman, and child, seeing the world through the eyes of a Teddy Bear, and has stirred up childhood memories of long forgotten years. Whether you are a child or an adult this book has been written just for you. Teddy Bear is usually the one and only toy that Mum will trust with her baby, as he/or /she begins to learn how to place trust in what is usually her first soft toy. Such soft fur and a welcoming face is a joy to see giving young children confidence in the knowledge that when dad and mum turn out the lights at night their little one is not alone. Also Teddy plays a role when children have bee advised about their behaviour and they feel frustrated they can confide in Teddy. Teddy is on childrens level and even when one has to go shopping and leave at home their partner who may not be well it is a nice thing to place Teddy beside them on the sofa. This book has been written by Rosaleen who got behind the mind of Teddy and has related his concerns and joys, even older folk in hospices have a Teddy to bring comfort. All in all this book deserves a place in every school, nursery, library, and of course family homes.Teddy Bear promises one thing that is he will give you back all the love that you give him and more...By the way Rosaleen has just one question...What happened to your Teddy Bear?About the AuthorI have been in receipt of trauma counselling since 1999 on a daily basis, at times speaking till the early hours of the morning.Support from my trauma Counsellor helps me to come to terms with accepting that what has happened to me cannot now be changed. I cannot ever forgive those who had a vicarious liability to look after me and failed. As a result of being locked away for some years all because we were poor has brought certain limitations to my day to day life. Writing is a form of therapy and allows me to be free to be the person that I want to be, and should have been my birthright. Through writing I can reach out to others who may have had such an unfortunate experience as myself . Daily flashbacks can be upsetting and I fill my life with things to do so as to block them out. Day to day life can be exhausting and coping mechanisms that I learnt in order to survive have not helped me in the outside world. God help all fellow survivors and perhaps one day Ireland will accept the terrible price we paid. Shame on all you right thinking residents in Ireland to allow the government and Catholic Church to ignore harm done to me and many others who are either dead or too ill to tell their story. Thanks to Chipmunkapublishing I have been able to confront my demons and a Big Thank you to Reatha my trauma counsellor without her I would not be here today writing about my stolen life.
