Moira the Reluctant, immortal Daughter of the renowned Rebecca Upton, journeys from her home in Ireland to assist with efforts to locate Sanctuary, the legendary refuge of the Seven Sisters. There, she meets Tom Fairfax, a reserved archivist tasked with organizing and modernizing the Archives. Tom is everything a Daughter could want in a future mate, handsome, intelligent, and kind. Above all, his touch arouses her in a way no other man’s ever has. The moment Tom spied Moira, his heart tangled into a knot and hasn’t loosened since. The beautiful Daughter has a sharp tongue and a temper to match, and is not at all the kind of woman he dreamed of calling his own. In spite of the attraction he feels for her, Tom goes out of his way to avoid the fiery Daughter, determined to protect himself from certain heartbreak. Moira is equally determined to have him, regardless of his apparent infatuation with another Daughter. When Moira’s brother is kidnapped, she and Tom are thrown together in a way neither anticipated, forcing them to trust one another or risk losing their budding love under the crushing weight of the Order’s never-ending quest for continued immortality.

Download or read book Theodore Savage written by Cicely Hamilton and published by Standard Ebooks. This book was released on 2023-11-12T19:27:44Z with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theodore Savage opens with the title character, an office worker enjoying a comfortable life, anticipating his wedding. There are rumors of impending war; the people are excited, sure of their cause. When the war finally begins, Savage is called away to manage food distribution. But disaster soon follows as total war is unleashed on the country. As he adapts to a hard new life of man against man, fighting for ever-more-scarce resources, Savage wonders if he’ll ever return to his old life again. Cicely Hamilton wrote Theodore Savage shortly after the First World War, mindful of the terrifying destruction wrought with its poison gas and mechanized weaponry. She asserts that mankind is destined to become a slave to the things it creates, and advancement of knowledge will be its downfall. One reviewer found the story lacking in detail and credibility, and thought it too far-fetched that the whole world would collapse to a primitive state with no one to carry on the torch of knowledge. Another reviewer questioned the assertion that disaster follows inevitably from scientific knowledge in a never-ending cycle. But from an artistic point of view, the novel was regarded as imaginative and clever, despite its subject matter, which was rather dreary for a world still recovering from the Great War. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Download or read book Theodore Savage written by Cicely Hamilton and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2023-02-07 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From one of the earliest feminist science fiction writers, a novel that envisions the fall of civilization—and the plight of the modern woman in a post-apocalyptic wilderness. When war breaks out in Europe, British civilization collapses overnight. The ironically named protagonist must learn to survive by his wits in a new Britain. When we first meet Savage, he is a complacent civil servant, primarily concerned with romancing his girlfriend. During the brief war, in which both sides use population displacement as a terrible strategic weapon, Savage must battle his fellow countrymen. He shacks up with an ignorant young woman in a forest hut—a kind of inverse Garden of Eden, where no one is happy. Eventually, he sets off in search of other survivors . . . only to discover a primitive society where science and technology have come to be regarded with superstitious awe and terror. A pioneering feminist, Hamilton offers a warning about the degraded state of modern women, who—being “unhandy, unresourceful, superficial”—would suffer a particularly sad fate in a postapocalyptic social order.

Download or read book Social Media A Blessing and A Curse written by Ayman Kaddoura and published by The Bridge Technology. This book was released on with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to scrutinize the concept of social media and bring to light all the parts of it that have been covered up by shadows. We can never truly know a thing until we take out time to understand and this is a principle I believe needs to be applied to social media. For so long, we have gone with the flow, accepting the words of those at the top as gospel without understanding that all their words and actions are tailored to suit their own needs and for this reason, they can seldom tell us the full truth. Through this book, I also want to open your eyes to unending opportunities available to you through this social media, those things that you have overlooked as being too good to be true or have just never had the time to dig deeper to understand their inner workings. I believe that only reveals a thing in its full form to those who actively seek to find it and that is why you can never completely know until you desire and actively seek to. I hope that your journey through the pages of this book brings you enlightenment and that through it, the eyes of your understanding be opened to those things that have been lurking in the dark. I also hope that your unasked questions will be answered and by the end of this experience, you emerge at the other side with a completely different and better perspective about life and all that it entails.

Download or read book Beyond Winning written by Kim Payne and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These days it seems everyone has a youth sports horror story—whether it’s about a tyrant coach obsessed with his team record that only plays the best kids on the team, or a parent who publicly berates his kid for not making a goal. But should it really only be all about winning? What about having fun, learning a sport, and developing athletic skills? Beyond Winning with Whole Child Sports offers an alternative approach to teaching sports to kids. It deemphasizes short-term goals like winning and youth championships and discourages the introduction of adult-oriented, league-structured competition. Instead it emphasizes training techniques and coaching strategies aimed at improving core strength, balance, and creativity in aspiring athletes, using an age-appropriate four-stage timeline, based on a child’s physical, psychological, and neurological development. Beyond Winning with Whole Child Sports provides frustrated parents with help in the form of advice and concrete solutions to common questions, and step-by-step instructions for helping young children develop athletic ability in an environment that’s less structured while encouraging athletic and personal growth. It also reveals how to avoid bullying, trash talk, and elitism.
Download or read book Refiner s Fire written by JB Storm and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-24 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Refiner’s Fire By: JB Storm Just like we refine precious metals by removing impurities to make them strong, or gems are formed by intense heat and polished to sparkle, we are refined by the challenges we face in life. Refiner’s Fire is about taking a new perspective and realizing we are in the college of life. In life we get mired down and forget that everyone around us has challenges, struggles, things that can bring us to our knees. The scriptures say: “No unclean thing can dwell with God.” Taking stories either from our own lives or lives of friends and sharing them to show (first), no one walks alone or goes through life without challenges and (two) challenges can be made into stepping stones that lead to our eternal progression or, if we so choose, can be stumbling blocks that lead us away from our perfect, clean self. It is our choice that determines which direction we will choose and how we will embrace those challenges. The hope is that at least one person benefits from the thoughts that are shared. And while some stories are shared several times there is significance each time. To a spiritual person thinking about how the Universe affects us through our own mind may help pave the way to better self. To a religious person, it doesn’t matter what faith you walk by; there is something upon the pages that may help you.
