Download or read book Handbook of Power Quality written by Angelo Baggini and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-31 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the complexity of power systems combined with other factors such as increasing susceptibility of equipment, power quality (PQ) is apt to waver. With electricity in growing demand, low PQ is on the rise and becoming notoriously difficult to remedy. It is an issue that confronts professionals on a daily basis, but few have the required knowledge to diagnose and solve these problems. Handbook of Power Quality examines of the full panorama of PQ disturbances, with background theory and guidelines on measurement procedures and problem solving. It uses the perspectives of both power suppliers and electricity users, with contributions from experts in all aspects of PQ supplying a vital balance of scientific and practical information on the following: frequency variations; the characteristics of voltage, including dips, fluctuations and flicker; the continuity and reliability of electricity supply, its structure, appliances and equipment; the relationship of PQ with power systems, distributed generation, and the electricity market; the monitoring and cost of poor PQ; rational use of energy. An accompanying website hosts case studies for each chapter, demonstrating PQ practice; how problems are identified, analysed and resolved. The website also includes extensive appendices listing the current standards, mathematical formulas, and principles of electrical circuits that are critical for the optimization of solutions. This comprehensive handbook explains PQ methodology with a hands-on approach that makes it essential for all practising power systems engineers and researchers. It simultaneously acts as a reference for electrical engineers and technical managers who meet with power quality issues and would like to further their knowledge in this area.
Download or read book Digital Transformation of the Design Construction and Management Processes of the Built Environment written by Bruno Daniotti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-30 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on the development of methods, interoperable and integrated ICT tools, and survey techniques for optimal management of the building process. The construction sector is facing an increasing demand for major innovations in terms of digital dematerialization and technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data, advanced manufacturing, robotics, 3D printing, blockchain technologies and artificial intelligence. The demand for simplification and transparency in information management and for the rationalization and optimization of very fragmented and splintered processes is a key driver for digitization. The book describes the contribution of the ABC Department of the Polytechnic University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano) to R&D activities regarding methods and ICT tools for the interoperable management of the different phases of the building process, including design, construction, and management. Informative case studies complement the theoretical discussion. The book will be of interest to all stakeholders in the building process – owners, designers, constructors, and faculty managers – as well as the research sector.

Peavey's vision was to build top-quality instruments that plain folk like him could afford, and through his ambition, creativity, and hard work he created one of the leading companies in the music and sound industries. The Peavey Revolution tells the story of 40 years of persistence, passion, and personal travail, often in Hartley's own colorful words.
Download or read book The Macroeconomic Effects of Public Investment written by Mr.Abdul Abiad and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides new evidence of the macroeconomic effects of public investment in advanced economies. Using public investment forecast errors to identify the causal effect of government investment in a sample of 17 OECD economies since 1985 and model simulations, the paper finds that increased public investment raises output, both in the short term and in the long term, crowds in private investment, and reduces unemployment. Several factors shape the macroeconomic effects of public investment. When there is economic slack and monetary accommodation, demand effects are stronger, and the public-debt-to-GDP ratio may actually decline. Public investment is also more effective in boosting output in countries with higher public investment efficiency and when it is financed by issuing debt.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the Victorian era, London's Underground has had played a vital role in the daily life of generations of Londoners. Christian Wolmar celebrates the vision and determination of the 19th-century pioneers who made the world's first, and still the largest, underground passenger railway: one of the most impressive engineering achievements in history. From the early days of steam to electrification, via the Underground's contribution to 20th-century industrial design and its role during two world wars, the story comes right up to the present with its sleek, driverless trains, and the wrangles over the future of the system. This book reveals London's hidden wonder in all its glory, and shows how the railway beneath the streets helped create the city we know today.

Book excerpt: In the early days of tube railways in London there was little short of a mad scramble to get new tubes authorised for construction. Private and institutional finance was tempted by the promise of moneymaking schemes. Few in the event made very much and some were just plain scams. This book reveals over forty unfulfilled tubes that were presented to Parliament between 1880 and the start of the First World War, as well as many proposed variations to the tubes that were constructed.

Download or read book London s Secret Tubes written by Andrew Emmerson and published by Capital Transport Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strange, derelict surface buildings looking like art deco tube stations, odd passages leading apparently nowhere on the Underground and half-remembered tales of government bunkholes and hideaways deep below the streets of London. On these and similar subjects rumours have abounded for years. Now, for the first time, an authoritative and intriguing book tells comprehensively the true story of the vast underground shelters and government citadels constructed during the Second World War and afterwards. Other revelations include never-before published details of express tube railway lines to relieve congestion on existing tracks, the plans to relocate the complete mechanism of government and parliament to north-west London, and the standby studios constructed underground by the BBC in case Broadcasting House was destroyed. Details are given of disused tube stations converted to other uses and the vast underground factory constructed in tunnels intended for a new tube line."

Book excerpt: Recent advances in cognitive neuroscience make possible an understanding of the neural events that are associated with different forms of consciousness. To fully understand and unveil the mystery of consciousness inside the brain we require examination of the concept of neural basis of conscious mind. This book provides a systematic exploration of consciousness and gives an overview of neural and quantum basis of conscious mind through careful explanation of proposed models and extends these theories challenging some generalised views on consciousness. Each chapter provides a review of the findings and theoretical accounts related to neural basis of consciousness and the mechanisms of the different varieties of consciousness.
