Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank L Day, married and father of 6 children and one of 6 children shares his story of how God reflected Himself through the fathers divinely involved in his life to demonstrate and introduce him to the goodness of God. He includes personal stories about his life and that of his brother, sisters and children threaded together by the patriarchs of the family. The basic outline of the book is around the mnemonic "F A T H E R", how God is Faithful, Atonement, Teacher, Helper, Encourager and Rewarder. Frank further tells how God introduced Spiritual Fathers to take him to the next level of maturity and fullness of life, when he was unable to get there and needed additional help. Frank is a professional in business of over 25 years, in C-level positions in public and private companies, small and large. He professes that his faith in Jesus Christ and exposure to God's goodness lead him in his daily life choices and business choices. His professional background has included leading business turnarounds, that have called upon every ounce of spiritual insight available to him by God's Holy Spirit. He is currently putting the finishing touches on, "Values in Leadership", a book that demonstrates the representative character of God's Spirit in business life and how those without the values in God's Spirit, create a "Crisis of Confidence" due to a life absent HIS values. Frank's third book will be "Twelve Eyes in the Man of God."

Book Daddy Reflections of Father Daughter Relationships

Download or read book Daddy Reflections of Father Daughter Relationships written by K E Garland and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A father¿s presence is important in a daughter¿s life. He is the first man a little girl sees and knows. He demonstrates how men relate to women. But what happens when the father-daughter relationship is dysfunctional? Daddy answers that question. Included are fourteen memoirs that describe the impact a failed father-daughter relationship can have. These women share essays and narratives that detail various stages of breakdown. Whether an event occurred in childhood, adolescence, or adulthood, each story explains how their father¿s physical, emotional, or psychological abandonment has affected them. The book is separated into two parts. Part I shows the proverbial truth in the phrase, hurt people hurt people. While some stories confirm why or how men mistreat their daughters, others show how daughters sometimes internalize neglect and continue the cycle either with the relationship they have with themselves, or others. Part II illustrates how compassion can lead towards a path of inner peace and happiness, no matter the state of the relationship.

Download or read book Meet My Father written by Sarah Byers Naff and published by Belleville, ON : Guardian Books. This book was released on 2003 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet My Father is the story of one father and his impact on his child s view of God. The book was written with a threefold purpose: first, to challenge all fathers with the awesome task they have to personify God to their young children. Second, to encourage those who may have a distorted image of God as a result of a neglectful or abusive father. Third, Meet My Father will also lead you to know God as your Father. Sarah Naff is pictured here with her father Fred Byers, on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, March 11, 2001. She presented him with a one-of-a-kind hardbound copy of the incomplete manuscript for Meet My Father, written in his honor. Sarah s husband Sam had urged her to get a copy into her father s hands before it was too late. The timing was good, as Sarah s father died less than a month before his ninety-first birthday. Sarah Byers Naff was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, she taught science in public high schools. Her marriage to Sam and the subsequent birth of two daughters led her to be a stay-at-home mom. In the past ten years, she has earned her master s degree in biology education and returned to teaching. However, the most notable events have been the marriages of both daughters to wonderful sons-in-law and the blessings of ten grandchildren. Sarah and Sam now live in Big Canoe, Georgia, where they and four other couples were the founding members of Foothills Community Church in 1999.

Book excerpt: The Challenge Before You Is a Bold One: To Accept the Wild, Daring Adventure of Becoming a Man We want to be self-sufficient. Find our own direction as we pursue our dreams. Know it all and never ask for help. Isn’t this how most guys approach manhood? On our own, pretending we are doing better than we really are? But sooner or later the thrill of independence gets lost in the fog of isolation. It’s time to take the pressure off. We were never meant to figure life out on our own. This book was born out of a series of weekly phone calls between Sam Eldredge, a young writer in his twenties, and his dad, best-selling author John Eldredge. Join the conversation as a father and son talk about pursuing beauty, dealing with money, getting married, chasing dreams, knowing something real with God, and how to find a life you can call your own. Killing Lions is more than fatherly advice. It is an invitation into a journey: either to be the son who receives fathering or the father who learns what must be spoken. Most important, these conversations speak to a searching generation: “You are not alone. Its not all up to you. You are going to find your way.”

Download or read book Parenting Matters written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decades of research have demonstrated that the parent-child dyad and the environment of the familyâ€"which includes all primary caregiversâ€"are at the foundation of children's well- being and healthy development. From birth, children are learning and rely on parents and the other caregivers in their lives to protect and care for them. The impact of parents may never be greater than during the earliest years of life, when a child's brain is rapidly developing and when nearly all of her or his experiences are created and shaped by parents and the family environment. Parents help children build and refine their knowledge and skills, charting a trajectory for their health and well-being during childhood and beyond. The experience of parenting also impacts parents themselves. For instance, parenting can enrich and give focus to parents' lives; generate stress or calm; and create any number of emotions, including feelings of happiness, sadness, fulfillment, and anger. Parenting of young children today takes place in the context of significant ongoing developments. These include: a rapidly growing body of science on early childhood, increases in funding for programs and services for families, changing demographics of the U.S. population, and greater diversity of family structure. Additionally, parenting is increasingly being shaped by technology and increased access to information about parenting. Parenting Matters identifies parenting knowledge, attitudes, and practices associated with positive developmental outcomes in children ages 0-8; universal/preventive and targeted strategies used in a variety of settings that have been effective with parents of young children and that support the identified knowledge, attitudes, and practices; and barriers to and facilitators for parents' use of practices that lead to healthy child outcomes as well as their participation in effective programs and services. This report makes recommendations directed at an array of stakeholders, for promoting the wide-scale adoption of effective programs and services for parents and on areas that warrant further research to inform policy and practice. It is meant to serve as a roadmap for the future of parenting policy, research, and practice in the United States.

Book excerpt: “Dear Ashley” is unique, in part, because it is not written from the perspective of the sufferer, the treatment professional or the medical or psychological researcher. Instead, it may be the first time a dad has shared his perspective on his daughter’s eating disorder battle in print, let alone done so in such an engaging, intimate and heart-warming manner. The fact that Don Blackwell offers that perspective, openly and honestly, is one of many reasons parents and young adults are likely to be drawn to the book’s life-affirming message of hope.

Book The Reflective Parent How to Do Less and Relate More with Your Kids

Download or read book The Reflective Parent How to Do Less and Relate More with Your Kids written by Regina Pally and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-02-07 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An innovative parenting approach empowering parents to trust their instincts and embrace uncertainty. Figuring out how to raise happy, healthy, and successful kids can be overwhelming. Parents find themselves wading through tons of conflicting advice. Books that outline a “right way” of doing things can leave even the most dedicated caregiver feeling discouraged and inadequate when real life doesn’t measure up. An experienced psychiatrist and founder of the Center for Reflective Communities, Regina Pally serves up something totally different in her book. She argues that the key to successful parenting is learning to slow down, reflect, and recognize that there is no one key to doing it right. The Reflective Parent synthesizes the latest in neuroscience research to show that our brain’s natural tendencies to empathize, analyze, and connect with others are all we need to be good parents. Each chapter weaves together discussions of specific reflective parenting principles like “Tolerate Uncertainty” and “Repair Ruptures” with engaging explanations of the science that backs them up. Brief “Take Home Lessons” at the end of each chapter and vivid examples of parents and children putting the principles into action make this a highly readable, practical guide for anyone looking to build loving, lasting relationships with their kids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflections on a Father and a Son is a journey that at times is gut wrenching while at other moments pause worthy. Readers witness how growing up in the 1950s and 60s was negotiated in small towns with even smaller margins of supervision. Travel along route 9 from Stottville to Rouses Point, a micro village tucked away innocently in the northeast corner of the Lake Champlain Valley basin of New York State. The early years in the Hudson Valley involve tales of exploration, cruelty, and friendship. After moving just south of the Canadian border, the adventures take on a downward spiral. Crawl through collapsed tunnels in a 19th century deserted fort, rummage the contents of railroad cars for cigarettes or discover how to survive multiple school suspensions. The odyssey intensifies as consistent threads weave through a contentious relationship between father and son. Their bond is buttressed by an ever increasing repertoire of senseless acts bent on destroying all possibilities of post-high school success. Save for one prescient and observant English teacher, a fruitful future would have been squandered. Participate in the transformation of a non-compliant teenager to a tremulous college applicant; the result of one teacher believing in one outlier.

Book Law in Society Reflections on Children Family Culture and Philosophy

Download or read book Law in Society Reflections on Children Family Culture and Philosophy written by Alison Diduck and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-08-24 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection, written by legal scholars from around the world, offers insights into a variety of topics from children’s rights to criminal law, jurisprudence, medical ethics and more. Its breadth reflects the fact that these are all elements of what can broadly be called ‘law and society’, that enterprise that is interested in law’s place or influence in diffferent aspects of real lives and understands law to be simultaneously symbol, philosophy and action. It is also testament to the broad range of vision of Professor Michael Freeman, in whose honour the volume was conceived. The contributions are divided into categories which reflect his distinguished career and publications, over 85 books and countless articles, including pioneering work on children’s rights, domestic violence, religious law, jurisprudence, law and culture, family law and medicine, ethics and the law, as well as his enduring commitment to interdisciplinarity. The volume begins with work on law in its philosophical, cultural or symbolic realm (Part I: Law and Stories: Culture, Religion and Philosophy), including its commitment to the normative ideal of ‘rights’ (Part II: Law and Rights), and then offfers work on law as coercive state action (Part III: Law and the Coercive State) and as regulator of personal relationships (Part IV: Law and Personal Living). It continues with reflections on the importance of globalisation, both of law and of ‘doing family’ in personal and public life (Part V: Law and International Living) before closing with two reflections on Michael Freeman’s body of work generally, including one from Michael himself (Part VI: Law and Michael Freeman).
