Book Saint Vincent De Paul His Perceived Christological Thought Pattern on Charity and Christ in the Poor

Download or read book Saint Vincent De Paul His Perceived Christological Thought Pattern on Charity and Christ in the Poor written by Michael I. Edem CM and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 775 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The entire work is divided into three parts. Each part has its accompanying chapters with corresponding introductions and conclusions. It is the incarnation that necessitated the self-emptying and self-abasement of Christ. It is the same mystery that underlies his passion and crucifixion and eventual resurrection. The mystery of incarnation capped with experiential events forms the tap root of this global vision of Christ in the poor. It is central to his theology of the poor, Christ in the poor and the poor in Christ. The incarnation and experiential events furnish the inclination and orientation Vincent’s thought pattern possesses. Such penetration and globalization process concerning the word “incarnate” are in line with the Church’s “permanent need of theological reflection.” The special inclination acts as a veneer that links other aspects. It forms a continuum, permeating and illumining the mystical link of the Vincentian Christ in the poor and the poor in Christ.

Book History of St Vincent de Paul

Download or read book History of St Vincent de Paul written by Emile Bougaud and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from History of St. Vincent De Paul: Founder of the Congregation of the Mission (Vincentians) And of the Sisters of Charity The seventeenth century no doubt differed vastly from our own, but not to the extent that may be supposed. It forms part of that modern period of which the present day is the outcome. The problems undergoing study and solution are in large measure the same. Among the many saints and great Christian leaders of the Church in the seventeenth century, Saint Vincent de Paul stands out pre-eminent as an apostle of charity and an educator of the clergy. His long life of devotion to the service of his neighbour is a model for our imitation. The social difficulty with which we are face to face has been created by the substitution of capital as a governing power for Christianity. The working classes, or the hands, as they have been called, have been treated simply as so much wealth -producing power, and the rich and the poor have been banded into two Opposite camps. Luxury, selfishness and power combine and struggle for the mastery. The working classes have silently realised their position. They herd for the most part together they live as tenants on the land or in the tenements of absentee landlords, whom they seldom or never see. The absence among them is not only of the wealthy landlord, but of the civilising, humanising, Christianising influence of those who by education are refined, cultivated, charitable and religious. The working classes are learning to combine, in order to secure for themselves by pressure and threats that which ought to have been spontaneously offered to them by Christian sentiment. In the long - run, it will be found that the power of capital is a miserably inefficient sub stitute for Christianity, and that it will be destroyed by the combination of numbers, and by its own corruption, unless there be a return among all classes to Christian principle. Book Some Counsels Of S Vincent De Paul To Which Is Appended The Thoughts Of Mademoiselle Le Gras

Download or read book Some Counsels Of S Vincent De Paul To Which Is Appended The Thoughts Of Mademoiselle Le Gras written by Saint Vincent De Paul and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2013-05-31 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The counsels contained in the following pages were addressed to the Companies of Mission Priests and Sisters of Charity, founded in France for the teaching and assistance of the poor more than two hundred and fifty years ago. They are characterised by the simplicity and the directness which distinguished S. Vincent de Paul himself, and it may be found, perhaps, that their significance does not depend on place, period, or condition, but still has application here and now.

Book excerpt: First place winner for "Popular Presentation of the Catholic Faith" from the Catholic Press Association! Thrift Store Saints is a collection of true stories based on Jane Knuth’s experiences serving the poor at a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in the inner city of Kalamazoo, Michigan. At the outset of the book, Knuth is a reluctant new volunteer at the store, sharing that her middle-class, suburban, church-going background has not prepared her well for this kind of work. By the end of the book, Knuth has undergone a transformation of sorts, and neither she nor we can ever view the poor in the same way again. Knuth’s transformation is rooted in the prevailing message of Thrift Store Saints: When we serve the poor, they end up helping us as much as we help them. Throughout the book we are introduced to new “saints,” as Knuth thoughtfully, at times humorously, describes how her encounters with the poorest people led her to the greatest riches of God’s grace. Thrift Store Saints makes clear that it doesn’t require heroic Mother Teresa-types to make a difference with the poor, and it even more powerfully shows us that working with them is not gloomy, depressing work. Knuth’s moving stories demonstrate the profound joy any of us can experience when we see serving the poor not as social work, but as a spiritual path that leads us to the heart of Jesus.
