Download or read book Religion written by L. M. Barley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reviews the publicly available sources of statistical information on religion. The majority of this data relates to the Christian churches and is split between the serial or recurrent sources in the first review and the ad hoc survey data in the second. The third sets out the available Jewish data which comprise the best recorded and the most extensive of the sources in the non-Christian sector, and the final review brings together statistical sources on the remaining religions practised in the UK. This book will be an invaluable source of information for researchers and practitioners in the field.
Download or read book Education Equality and Society written by Bryan Wilson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1975, the essays in this book explore a particular level at which the concept of equality must be applied if educational equality is to be realised. Whilst each stands independently of the others, there are points of convergence and overlap in the perspectives of the writers, each of whom represents a different discipline: education, sociology, psychology, philosophy and politics. The relationship between equality and unity, uniformity and justice are discussed, and at every level false assumptions are revealed.
Download or read book A Vital Ministry written by John Caperon and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2015-05-30 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Vital Ministry describes the situation of the ‘post-millennium’ generation of the young as threatening to their human flourishing. Their economic, political and cultural context is potentially oppressive, and the education system in this country no longer seeks to provide ‘spiritual capital’ to resource the young. The special role of Church of England schools is to provide a holistic education which values the spiritual dimension, genuinely encouraging the personal and spiritual development of young people as ‘children of God’. Drawing on the testimony both of school chaplains and school students, the book argues that the chaplain’s ministry of pastoral care has a key part to play in the fostering of personal spiritual development, and that the role of the chaplain as a liturgical leader can open up the spiritual realm for students. The Church needs to take seriously this vital but neglected ministry, the book concludes, arguing for better recognition, professional support and development.

Download or read book There is a Crack in Everything Education and Religion in a Secular Age written by K. H. (Ina) ter Avest and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two constants in academic and theological discourse throughout history, they are the debate around secularization and the dialogue concerning the intersection of religion and education. Each age has had its debate about modernizing forces that drive concerns of impending secularization. In this publication this theme is approached from perspectives of teachers, of students, of policy makers and situated in a politico-historical context. Aware of the fact that in today’s plural societies one sacred canopy is non-existent anymore, cracks of the sacred canopy/canopies are described, as well as ‘the light that gets in’, the possible and challenging ways out are roughly sketched.
