Book Presidential Campaigns And American Self Images

Download or read book Presidential Campaigns And American Self Images written by Arthur H Miller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores a central political paradox: why American scholars, journalists, and citizens periodically question the viability of their presidential electoral system and yet believe that presidential elections are our best hope for tomorrow. The book argues that the key to understanding this paradox lies in the concept of "self-image," exploring relationships between campaign activities and political culture. After presenting an introduction to the history of presidential campaigning and a theory of political image, the book arranges essays in three parts: images centered on candidates, mass media, and the public. A final essay assesses explanations of the contrasts between the 1988 and 1992elections and suggests tomorrow's research agenda.

Book National Self images and Regional Identities in Russia

Download or read book National Self images and Regional Identities in Russia written by Bo Petersson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. This text looks at what being Russian means to a Russian politician, the country they live in and what they think it ought to be. It is a study of self-images in Russia, pertaining to the Russian state policy and the cognitive and affective strands regarding Russia's past, its friends and foes externally and internally, and Russia's role in the international arena, as well as key issues related to internal developments. This book attempts to assess to what extent a new sense of identity emerged in Russia during the decade after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In this book Petersson argues that the development of a civic national identity, centered around belonging to the state and not an ethnic community, is the only viable option to prevent further disintegration and bring about stability and cohesion for the country.

Book Understanding the Complexities of Self Image in an EFL Rural Setting

Download or read book Understanding the Complexities of Self Image in an EFL Rural Setting written by Bertha Ramos Holguín and published by Editorial de la Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia - UPTC. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we looked at self-image from a humanistic perspective. We see it as a dynamic and complex process that compromises self-respect and self-confidence. The protagonists of this story come from a rural area. They were a group of eleventh graders from a high school in Samacá, one of the 123 towns in the state of Boyacá, Colombia. As narrators of the story, we wanted to explore, analyze, and interpret how these adolescents perceived their self-image through their life stories under a narrative inquiry method. By telling their narratives, the students could reconstruct and re-signify their reality, while showing us who they are in relation to other people and their contexts. Therefore, life stories offered us the possibility to explore students' inner and social worlds. This research study helped us increase our sensitivity to how the adolescents saw themselves as part of their rural contexts, as well as how this might affect their futures.

Book Self as Image in Asian Theory and Practice

Download or read book Self as Image in Asian Theory and Practice written by Roger T. Ames and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the third in a series dealing with the concept of self and its importance in understanding Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures. The authors examine the relationship between self and image and its significance in attaining a deeper knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, and Indian cultures. The relationship between self and image is as complex as it is fascinating. It takes on different meanings and significances in diverse cultures. In this volume, the focus of attention is largely on representational practices and symbolic media, such as literature, cinema, art, and dance. By examining both classical and contemporary works associated with China, India, and Japan, the authors seek, on the one hand, to demonstrate the intricate relationship between self and image and, on the other, to make use of that relationship to further our understanding of these cultures.
