Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation This tutorial fully explains cathode ray tube (CRT) based displays in a single, easy-to-understand narrative. Detailed explanations and insights into performance properties and safety limits of the various glass melts follow a discussion of the fundamentals. In addition, other topics covered include the architectural differences between color and monochrome, the cathode (electron beam source) as a failure mode for all CRTs, types of cathodes available and their life expectancy. Phosphors, the metrics involved in defining a pixel and how distortions can influence the net results, defining CRT compliance with the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function (GSDF), test patterns and how they provide information about display performance, and video cards round out this informative work.

Book excerpt: This study explores several different image quality metrics currently employed by the visual display community in the context of color CRT display technology. The specific techniques included in the study are the Modulation Transfer Function, the Contrast Threshold/Sensitivity Function, the Modulation Transfer Function Area, the Integrated Contrast Sensitivity metric, and the Square-Root Integral metric. These metrics include and are based on visual psychometric data and suggest that operator performance may be predicted from the objective, image quality data.

Book Display Evaluation Report A Survey of Twenty Color CRT Monitors

Download or read book Display Evaluation Report A Survey of Twenty Color CRT Monitors written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a survey of the performance of twenty color CRT monitors. All have addressability of either 1600 x 1280 or 1600 x 1200 pixels, and image sizes from 20 to 21 inches. The report provides: Comparisons of the performance of the twenty monitors, A two page summary of the performance of each of the twenty monitors. The results are given in a standardized graphical format. The purpose of the report is to provide an overview of the performance of these monitors. To do that, we have concentrated on the most important monitor parameters, providing the reader with information that will allow a rapid and timely review. These parameters are: Luminance (brightness) Resolution (measured and interpreted in several ways), Convergence ; Waviness (distortion). In color monitors, the desired image can beat with the phosphor dots or stripes leading to a disturbing pattern of wavy bars called Mofre'. Mofre' is difficult to quantify; it is very apparent to the eye in some images, but not in others. In this report we refer to Mofre' only in the Comments sections of the individual monitor reports in the following section.

Book A Direct Measure of CRT Image Quality

Download or read book A Direct Measure of CRT Image Quality written by Robert W. Verona and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes a direct measuring technique for determining the image quality of raster-scanned cathode-ray tube (CRT) displays. This technique is based on the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) theory and human visual psychophysical data. The rationale for the technique is discussed from a theoretical as well as functional viewpoint. The instrumentation necessary to obtain these measures in manual and automatic modes is discussed. Data obtained using this measurement technique are analyzed and compared with the theoretical performance of the displays. The image quality of new CRT displays procured for the U.S. Army's Advanced Attack Helicopter is being specified and tested using this direct measuring technique. (Author).

Download or read book Flat Panel Displays and CRTs written by Lawrence E. Tannas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flat-Panel Displays and CRTs, a review of electronic information display devices, is the first sys tematic and comprehensive coverage of the subject. It is intended to distill our wealth of knowledge of flat-panel displays and CRTs from their beginnings to the present state of the art. Historical perspective, theory of operation, and specific applications are all thoroughly covered. The field of display engineering is a multidisciplined technical pursuit with the result that its individual disciplines suffer from a lack of communications and limited perspective. Many previ ously developed standards for, and general understanding of, one technology are often inappro priate for another. Care has been taken here to document the old, incorporate the new, and emphasize commonalities. Criteria for performance have been standardized to enable an expert in one display technology, such as liquid crystals, to compare his device performance with that offered by another technology, such as electroluminescence. This book has been written with a second purpose in mind, to wit, to be the vehicle by means of which a new scientist or engineer can be introduced into the display society. It is organized to be tutorial for use in instructional situations. The first chapters begin with first principles and defini tions; the middle chapters set out requirements and criteria; and the last chapters give a complete description of each major technology.

Book The Optical Transfer Function of Imaging Systems

Download or read book The Optical Transfer Function of Imaging Systems written by Thomas Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Optical Transfer Function of Imaging Systems deals extensively with the theoretical concept of the optical transfer function (OTF), its measurement, and application to imaging devices. The OTF is a mathematical entity describing how well the subject is transferred into an image via the lens. The book focuses on the practical aspects of using and measuring the OTF. It presents the background physics necessary to understand and assess the performance of the great proliferation of electro-optical systems, including image intensifiers, video cameras, and thermal imagers. Assuming a senior undergraduate level of optics knowledge, the book is suitable for graduate courses in optics, electro-optics, and photographic science. In addition, it is a practical guide for systems designers who require a means of assessing and specifying the performance of imaging systems. It is also of interest to physicists and engineers working in all areas of imaging.
