Book Rediscovering Identity

  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Rediscovering Identity written by Robert Mulindwa and published by . This book was released on 2023-11-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Rediscovering Identity, author Robert Mulindwa expounds on why it's paramount and essential to understand one's true identity. Only when one asks the most important question, "Who am I?" can one rightfully address the crucial and equally important question of, "Why am I here?" Understanding one's identity as the image of God creates an awareness in one's mind that they are a spirit with a soul living in a physical body. This awareness starts in the conscious part of the mind, where thinking, reason, freewill, imagination, memory, and intuition reside. Communion of the Spirit of God and man's spirit starts here. Thinking under the guidance of the Spirit of God is so powerful it produces growth and greater expression in an individual. How? The author demonstrates that whatever thoughts go on in the conscious mind then find residence in the subconscious mind. The subconscious part of the mind is the emotional center and always on auto pilot. This part of the mind can't differentiate between reality and imagination, and the subconscious doesn't reject, so whatever is impressed upon it on a repeated basis becomes permanent in the subconscious. It's this part of the mind that is responsible for our habits. Whatever knowledge we are exposed to in the conscious creates an understanding in the conscious. This understanding will give birth to faith in the subconscious mind, which in turn will produce actions in the body that translate into the results we produce. Therefore, knowledge and understanding of the image of God as our true identity raises our awareness (level of thinking) of who we are. Which brings about a transformation that leads to desired results in life.

Download or read book Our Identity written by Stuparu Lorena-Valeria and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-02 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume "OUR IDENTITY: A SUBSTANTIAL REALITY OR A CONVENTION ? " is focused on the individual identity problem. Individual identity emphasizes its character as a problematic notion given that the modernity defines the individual both as a subject and as an object of knowledge, in the center of philosophical preoccupations which gives him a power that will become manifest in the political sphere. If liberal thinking, and especially postmodern liberalism, built a concept of individual identity that transcends national and even political levels, from a conservative view there is no "pure" individual identity as an image of an excessive spirit of initiative. Also, the role of democratization in the political and social behavior of individuals, in the context of globalization, cannot ignore the role of social and political imaginary in configuration of individuality and citizenship - in analogy with existential goals of individuals. On the other hand, a contradiction appears when we make theoretical generalizations on "individual identity," since there are at least as many identities, as there are individuals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether inscribed in physical media, projected on surfaces, or viewed on digital devices, we find ourselves constantly inundated with streams of visual data. Yet, we know surprisingly little about how these images are made, especially in journalistic contexts where representations are long-lasting and where repercussions can be dramatic. To See and Be Seen considers some of the ideological, aesthetic, pragmatic, institutional, cultural, commercial, environmental, and psychological forces that consciously or otherwise shape the production of news images and subsequently influence their reception. T. J. Thomson examines the expectations, experiences, and reactions of those depicted by visual journalists and considers other relevant factors: how do everyday people perceive cameras and those who operate them? How are identities visually represented and presented to different audiences? And how does the physical and the socially constructed environment shape those depictions? The results of Thomson’s research provide one of the first empirical and real-time glimpses into the experience of being in front of a journalist’s lens. To See and Be Seen enables us to understand the stories behind images by considering the environment in which such images are made, the exchange (if one occurred) between the camera-wielding observer and the observed, the identities of both parties, and how they react to the representations that are created. To See and Be Seen is the winner of the National Communication Association’s 2020 Diane S. Hope Book of the Year Award. NCA reviewers called the book “a signature achievement in understanding the process of media production and the ethics of photojournalism.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study investigates identity construction through visual/picture on facebook profiles, newly emerged as visual identity. This study utilizes both quantitative (N=100, Observation) and qualitative (N=20 in-person Interviews) data based on a purposive sample of Iranian and Indian active users. The exploration of the topic proceeds mainly by way of dividing images according to their topic, message form, style and their composition. The results demonstrate, in contrast with previous studies, the disparities of changes between genders take place amongst selected forms of the images not frequency of changes. Furthermore the age and nationality of the users have more control on expression and formation of the identity whether in true or hidden forms. The analysis of images reveals that the Iranian users particularly females, predominantly express their identity invisibly rather than visibly through selecting anomalous photos on facebook's profile. The characteristics of such identities are described and the implication this finding are discussed.

Download or read book Image and Identity written by R. Bruce Elder and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do images of the body, which recent poets and filmmakers have given us, tell us about ourselves, about the way we think and about the culture in which we live? In his new book A Body of Vision, R. Bruce Elder situates contemporary poetic and cinematic body images in their cultural context. Elder examines how recent artists have tried to recognize and to convey primordial forms of experiences. He proposes the daring thesis that in their efforts to do so, artists have resorted to gnostic models of consciousness. He argues that the attempt to convey these primordial modes of awareness demands a different conception of artistic meaning from any of those that currently dominate contemporary critical discussion. By reworking theories and speech in highly original ways, Elder formulates this new conception. The works of Brakhage, Artaud, Schneeman, Cohen and others lie naked under Elder’s razor-sharp dissecting knife and he exposes the essence of their work, cutting deeply into the themes and theses from which the works are derived. His remarks on the gaps in contemporary critical practices will likely become the focus of much debate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Image and Identity examines the unique qualities of Canadian cinema, situating it within the broader spectrum of Canadian culture as a whole. Taking a genetic approach toward uncovering an answer to the ever-pressing Canadian question, “In reality, who are we?” Bruce Elder explores the essential features of Canadian thought and the distinctive Canadian philosophical traditions that developed in response to our particular historical and geographical circumstances. Arguing that this rich yet largely neglected tradition is still reflected in much of our current artistic practice, Elder examines the Canadian documentary tradition, English-Canadian narrative filmmaking, and the works of our cinematic avant-garde. Focusing on the particular strengths of the avant-garde cinema, and providing in-depth analyses of the works of Michael Snow, Jack Chambers, David Rimmer, and many others, he demonstrates why these internationally celebrated Canadian artists have been at the forefront of the transition from modernist to postmodernist practices.
