Book Sense and Sensibility The Jane Austen Illustrated Edition

Download or read book Sense and Sensibility The Jane Austen Illustrated Edition written by Jane Austen and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special edition of Sense and Sensibility includes the famous illustrations by Charles Edmond Brock, created in 1898. Brock and his brothers were all successful illustrators of the day and often posed for each other using costumes, props and furniture in their Cambridge studio. Brock's younger brother, Henry, also illustrated Austen's books and joined him in illustrating other Austen releases for this set of 1898 editions. Sense and Sensibility, first published in 1811, was Austen's first published novel. The story revolves around the Misses Dashwood, Elinor and Marianne, left in reduced circumstances after their father's death. Their new home is a cottage on a distant relative's property, where they experience both romance and heartbreak. Marianne meets the dashing John Willoughby who courts her with poetry and flowers. Meanwhile, staid, sober neighbor Colonel Brandon also falls in love with Marianne, but she makes her preference for his rival clear. Elinor is in love with the diffident Edward Ferrars, a young man of good breeding and high moral standing. Their sentiments are quite compatible but his ambitious sister Fanny has other plans for him and works to separate these kindred souls. As true love finds its way to persevering over all obstacles, the impetuous sister gains maturity and balance and the cautious sister has her emotional awakening.

Book The Illustrated Works of Jane Austen

Download or read book The Illustrated Works of Jane Austen written by Jane Austen and published by Bounty Books. This book was released on 2013 with total page 863 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, delightfully illustrated with Hugh Thompson's delicate drawings, contains three of Jane Austen's classic novels: SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, EMMA and NORTHANGER ABBEY. Jane Austen is undoubtedly one of the finest English novelists: she paints on a small canvas, but with the most exquisitely detailed touch. Her novels sparkle with wit and humour; she lightly but tellingly satirizes the vanity, selfishness and pretension of mankind while creating a splendid gallery of living characters. Jane Austen's novels are all set in the narrow world of eighteenth-century society, but her deep understanding of human nature and her penetrating observation of its follies and absurdities are timeless. Her work is as funny and fascinating as when it first appeared, and she is deservedly ranked among the classic authors.

This book was released on 2021-02-01 with total page 2195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jane Austen: The Complete contains major novels, which interpret, critique and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism. Her use of biting irony, along with her realism, humour, and social commentary, have long earned her acclaim among critics, scholars, and popular audiences alike.

After the successful union of Miss Taylor, her long time governess and friend, with Mr Weston, she takes young Harriet Smith under her wing, the next target of her matchmaking schemes. Mr Knightley, a trusted friend of the Wood houses, is the only one who criticizes her and advises whenever necessary, but the naïve Emma has a long way to go before she realises the consequences of her actions as a self-proclaimed matchmaker. The story follows Emma’s journey through all her meddling and how she discovers a lot about herself and about an unrealised love!
