Book Understanding Contemporary Diet Culture through the Lens of Lacanian Psychoanalytic Theory

Download or read book Understanding Contemporary Diet Culture through the Lens of Lacanian Psychoanalytic Theory written by Bethany Morris and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-02-06 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a close analysis of the relationship between diets and identity in modern Western culture through the examination of popular texts including blogs, diet books, and websites. The relationship between consumerism and identity has been explored by scholars for decades now, but less has been said about how food and eating behaviors have been wrapped up in this relationship. Using Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, chapters investigate how diets and eating are used as a means to navigate individuals’ complex, unconscious desires and conflicts, and illustrate how diet and advertising industries use this to capitalize on the anxieties of the modern subject. The text’s psychoanalytic approach offers rare insight into the unconscious desires that dictate individuals’ choices around diets and lifestyle. By situating anxiety as the tension between jouissance and desire, the book promotes further understanding of individuals’ subjective and complex relationships with food. Through an understanding of the subject and symptoms from a psychoanalytic perspective, we can begin to think differently about the ways we come to eating and dieting. This book will be useful for scholars and postgraduate students studying Lacanian psychoanalytic theory, consumer psychology, mental health, the sociology of culture, and social and cultural anthropology.

Book Everything Fat Loss

Download or read book Everything Fat Loss written by Ben Carpenter and published by BDCC Fitness. This book was released on 2023-01-27 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not your typical weight loss book. Weight loss books have historically been rife with misinformation. A conveyor belt of diet books pretending to have the latest revolutionary weight loss "hacks", trying to grab your attention with whatever weight loss diet is trending. What is the best diet for you? Is it the ketogenic diet? Is it intermittent fasting? Is it the 5:2 diet? Is it a low-carb diet, a low-fat diet, or one of the many rapid weight loss plans promising that you can all lose an astronomical amount of weight in a short space of time? Do you know what doesn't make sense? Telling everyone to follow the same weight loss diet, period. Diets are not one size fits all. We are all different, and a diet plan that your friend is successful with might be a diet plan that doesn’t work for you. There is no 'best' weight loss diet for everyone. We are all individuals with different biology, preferences, and circumstances. Here are some cold, hard facts: - It is estimated that half of all adults are attempting to lose weight at least once per year. - Losing fat is the most sought-after goal in the fitness industry. - Despite the prevalence of diet attempts, global body weights have been trending upward for the last 50 years. - Most people who start a weight loss diet only get short-term results and are not successful at keeping that weight off in the long run. - Many of you feel confused by the huge amount of conflicting weight loss information and feel fed up with hopping from one diet to the next, constantly losing and regaining the same amount of weight. Rather than pretending to have the universal solution for everyone, Everything Fat Loss comprehensively explains and summarises what the research actually says about every major fat loss topic to help you formulate a plan that works for you. No gimmicks. No overhyped marketing. No cookie-cutter diet plans. No false promises. This is the ultimate scientific resource on fat loss, written to cut through the BS. It is literally, everything you need to know about fat loss, compiled into one handy resource.

Macronutrients or 'macros' are the three main nutrient groups your body can't live without: carbohydrates, fats and protein. So many diets focus on calorie counting, but not all calories are created equal: your body doesn't process 20 calories of kale and 20 calories of chocolate in the same way because of their different macro breakdowns. Macro counting is all about balance. By eating the right ratio of carbohydrates, fats and protein, you can lose weight and build muscle in a healthy, sustainable way without avoiding the foods you love. This flexible approach to dieting encourages you to make smart food choices that guarantee results. The Macro Method will tell you everything you need to know about counting macros, including the latest research about how the diet works and its nutritional benefits. Book A Guide to Flexible Dieting

Download or read book A Guide to Flexible Dieting written by Sonia Wings and published by Editora Bibliomundi. This book was released on 2021 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: See if this sounds familiar: you’ve just started a new diet, certain that it’s going to be different this time around and that it’s going to work. You’re cranking along, adjust to the new eating (and exercise) patterns and everything is going just fine. For a while. Then the problem hits. Maybe it’s something small, a slight deviation or dalliance. There’s a bag of cookies and you have one or you’re at the mini mart and just can’t resist a little something that’s not on your diet. Or maybe it’s something a little bit bigger, a party or special event comes up and you know you won’t be able to stick with your diet. Or, at the very extreme, maybe a vacation comes up, a few days out of town or even something longer, a week or two. What do you do?Now, if you’re in the majority, here’s what happens: You eat the cookie and figure that you’ve blown your diet and might as well eat the entire bag. Clearly you were weak willed and pathetic for having that cookie, the guilt sets in and you might as well just start eating and eating and eating.Or since the special event is going to blow your diet, you might as well eat as much as you can and give up, right? The diet is obviously blown by that single event so might as well chuck it all in the garbage. Vacations can be the ultimate horror, it’s not as if you’re going to go somewhere special for 3 days (or longer) and stay on your diet, right? Might as well throw it all out now and just eat like you want, gain back all the weight and then some. What if I told you that none of the above had to happen? What if I told you that expecting to be perfect on your diet was absolutely setting you up for failure, that being more flexible about your eating habits would make them work better? What if I told you that studies have shown that people who are flexible dieters (as opposed to rigid dieters) tend to weigh less, show better adherence to their diet in the long run and have less binge eating episodes? What if I told you that deliberately fitting in ‘free’ (or cheat or reward) meals into your diet every week would make it work better in the long run, that deliberately overeating for 5-24 hours can sometimes be a necessary part of a diet (especially for active individuals), that taking 1-2 weeks off of your diet to eat normally may actually make it easier to stick with in the long run in addition to making it work better.I can actually predict that your response is one of the following. Some may think I’m making the same set of empty promises that every other book out there makes. But I have the data and real-world experience to back up my claims. Or, maybe the idea of making your diet less strict and miserable is something you actively resist. I’ve run into this with many dieters; they seem to equate suffering and misery with success and would rather doom themselves to failure by following the same pattern that they’ve always followed rather than consider an alternate approach. Finally, maybe what little I wrote above makes intuitive sense to you and you want to find out more.Regardless of your reaction to what I’ve written, I already have your money so you might as well read on.I should probably warn you that this isn’t a typical diet book. You won’t find a lot of rah-rah or motivational types of writing, there are no food lists and no recipes. There are thousands of other books out there which fit that bill if that’s what you want but this isn’t it.
